The Official Anime & Manga Thread Vol: 三

AOT is a unique story though...the whole thing is unique and intriguing. What other story is out there with Titans and all that wild ****..3d maneuver gear. It's just dope

Akame is the same old. Bad guys are doing bad stuff but are in power crap. Also provides 0 insight as to why people like wave are supporting the capital anyways. Like They gave very vague reasoning. Honestly a series like Akame would be better if it was longer..it would make some of the stuff more impactful and meaningful.

I'll take bleach soul society arc over this whole thing easy

I never said AOT wasn't unique, Im just saying its the same as the fact characters die, and fans love and hate that... same as Akame.

because as we know in most shonen, main or very good supporting characters don't usually die.

Naruto - Sarutobi died but he was an old man died fighting for his villiage and that took til the 2nd arc of the story
Next to die after that .........Asuma (who wasn't necessarily a main character )
Bleach - has anyone even died aside from old man Genryusssai. (that wasnt a bad guy). which took what 8 years for him to die.

I'd go in to more deaths, but it's not typical for shonen main characters to die. and though Tatsumi and Akame are the Main Main characters the rest of Night raid has got plenty of panel time and stories and fights themselves.

Think of it like this. Luffy (tatsumi) is the main main character. the rest of the straw hat crew are main/ very important side characters (night raid)
Could you imagine if let's say. Nami was or Sanji died??

we'd lose our ***t but at the same time we'd be like damn, we gotta keep our eyes peeled.
(thats what Akame is to me. )
a good manga that has potential to go very far. its only on chapter 54..... the potential for this could be greater than what we're giving it credit for. I for one wasn't hooked on One piece by chapter 50. (trying to get nami to be the navigator. )

I'm not shooting down AOT, i loved it when i first saw it, just not as much as I love akame.

I think there's a big difference in how older long running series handle death and how a newer series like AGK and AOT handle death. Also there is a bigger difference in the tone and theme of those series than in a series like OP or Naruto. AGK loves gratuitous gore and death and it uses it to keep readers hooked rather than using substance. It glosses over backstories and motivations. Most of the characters are shallow or vague and underdeveloped. The deaths lack impact, everyone throws around "feels" now when a "significant" or any character who isn't fodder dies, but AGK doesn't build any real attachment to the characters before it kills them off. Also the difference in a character like Nami or Sanji dying besides the fact they've been around long enough and shown enough to build attachment, is that if they were to die their would be real difficulty in replacing them because they have roles that are vital to the crew. In AGK, anyone can be killed and a new piece can be slide in giving the characters minimal value from both utility and development. The other main differences in those other series was that the deaths also had more impact because they set up both something bigger for the overarching series and they pushed real character growth. AGK is pretty new but it hasn't really grown even though the stage and pieces have been set for a long time.

I think we all agree it does action well, it does gore well, and it's entertaining tho.

As for the things you named about Edeath, there isn't anything unique that you named to make her "The best villain of anything you've read" like you said before. She's a typical villain and a she's likable. She's a standout character in a series that suffers from weak characters. Like I said before she's my favorite character in the series and probably the best character in the series, but outside the series I don't think she's all that special. The dynamic with Tatsumi is interesting, but again the reasoning and lead up to it is shallow. It was just thrown in there without being developed to add another aspect. Just like with the other love plots going on now, it's just she's more interesting, so he love subplot is more interesting. It's not like it's actually well done.

If you want to try out something different than you're used to, go read Vagabond. It's about the samurai Musashi Miyamoto, his rise, his rival Seijuro (I think that's the spelling), and the philosophy of what is strength, is he allowed to love and be happy, etc. It also has on panel fights and the art is great.

Yea once again its personal preference. Just like lady armstrong in FMAB I would like her a lot more especialy if she got more shine. the same way I like esdeath.

I'm no saying my manga reading is shallow. but I just like her.
I've read a lot and watched a lot like we all have, but her character is just great to me personally.

Thats why I say the best villain I've read in my eyes.

Are there better, sure. Joker from batman.
King Bradley was a beast.
Magneto from X men.

I like esdese though.

That's exactly what will happen and will be the straw to finally make me say. i'll just wait til bleach is completely over before I ever read it each week again.

I saw Tokyo Ghoul while nrowsing showbox. It looked interesting and i'll probably start it soon.

Psycho pass is pretty wild..Im on episode 17 of the 1st season. Only watching it cuz my roomie got me into it.

Idk how I feel about. A lot of the time the way stuff happens just feels cheap and unexplained. Like the whole story in itself isn't very well thought out imo. But it does have hella action and turn up. Good suspense factor as well

I'm waiting for season 2 of psycho pass to end before I watch it. It's the type of show I like to marathon, plus I plan to rewatch season 1 after finals.

For those interested, Kaguya-Hime no Monogatari is out subbed now. I didn't know it was a 2+ hour movie.
Gotta go make some breakfast before i sit down to watch this. :pimp:

I wanted to see it in theaters to support ghibli, but there was only like 1 theater that had it for a week. Wind rises got a stronger release in my area so it was kinda weird that this wasn't in a few more of the artsy theaters

It was announced during screenings of the Naruto: THE LAST  movie that a newNaruto film was scheduled to arrive to theaters in Japan in the summer of 2015, focusing on the life of Naruto’s son Bolt.

“Now I’ve done it… even though the serialization [of Naruto] is over, I still haven’t stopped working,” Kishimoto explained with a wry laugh. He said, “now busy thinking of a story in which Bolt and Salad appear … and about Bolt’s ‘ultimate attack’.”

I looked around for it as well and never found a place either. So far it's good though. I'll definitely pick it up when it comes out on Blu-Ray.
