Great thread, you overlooked KG's defensive player of the year award in 07-08. Might want to fix that.

People act like Dirk can't win more after this year the way he plays he got 5-8 years left and if he wins 2 ships in that period he's a top 10 player period
If Lebron and them find a way to win. Nobody will remember the 3 games he went ghost. He has the opportunity to steal the MVP back in the next 2 home games also. If he continues to play like a bum he doesn't deserve the ring this year. And falls a few places down the list

dirk doesnt surpass kg yet. remember kg is one of the best defenders of all time. dirk still has some great years ahead of him even at his age.

Prime kg.dirk. Do to the fact while not winning his individual game on both ends of the floor exceeds dirks, overall in the span of each of their careers. Not saying dirk just became a good player, but the time at which he has played great hasnt been a longer tenure then the time kg played at his peak. Plus add to the fact he was great on both ends. He was a legit 20-25 pt 12+ rebounder top 5 in boards/blocks/shooting etc. And lets not act like kg, while he did play post alot more then than now, he wasnt and outside perimeter player like dirk is. I think the hype surrounding him this year has elevated ppl perception of him as a player. But second best pf of all time not right now. There were players who while not as great of a shooter as dirk is, their overall game especially on the defense end far exceeds dirks past/present.

he's a better defender, no doubt.
but comparing individual careers, i'd take Dirk. KG's never had the playoff success as an individual that Dirk has.
plus Dirk has that "clutch gene"

I personally feel KG is overrated in a career sense. Dude couldn't even carry a team to the playoff in Minnesota before he went to Boston, Dirk routinely carried bums to the top 3 seeds in the West. KG is the best defensive PF no doubt, but he needs another player to carry the load defensively and at the end of the day, great offense>great defense.
I really don't even see how someone can argue KG
irk anymore, KG won 1 chip with two HOF's who were still both playing at a high level. Dirk got robbed of one, and might win another and the 2nd best player on those teams were Jason Terry
. Take away Dirk and put KG on the Mavs dude might not carry them into the playoffs even.
If I'm making an all-time great team, KG then makes sense for his defense and versatility (In Simmons term, the Wine Cellar) but if I want a guy to be the alpha dog on my team I take Dirk over Kg 1,000 times out of 1,000.

longer tenure? where do you draw that conclusion?
especially since Dirk still in his prime and showing minimal signs of slowing down.

As I said in the other thread, if you can put Dirk ahead of Barkley I don't see no reason why you can't put him ahead of Karl Malone too.
