Alonzo was one of the best characters of all-time.  I wish I could watch this man move in streets longer than 2 hrs.  Could you imagine a HBO series?  A whole series of Alonzo would be

  Dude would chillin in strip clubs, solving crimes, visiting side chicks, arresting drug dealers (rappers that had cameos).  Man I wanna write the script

  This would be amazing.  Too bad Denzel would be too damn busy for it and I'm not settling on another actor playing that role.

It wouldn't be that great, almost a guilty pleasure show that doesn't accomplish much.

I think Alonzo is too far gone into the dark side to have a compelling story... if you started earlier in his life while he was realizing and figuring out his way and the means in which he conducts his business in the movie... then maybe. But he's already in the deep end in the movie, so it would just be watching a bad guy do bad things. If you tried to make him a more developed character and focus on his family/kid or then it would probably become like the Sopranos... except like I mentioned, you would have to soften Alonzo's character and develop him into guy you see in Training Day. Or if you wanted to have him be fighting between what's "right" and the law, vs. doing things the Alonzo way... then it's a different story and character all together.

I think you would have to change the Alonzo character in such a way from the movie to make him a compelling character over the course of a series... and in doing so he won't be the same incredible character.

I'm sure most will skip over this anyway... so I'll just end with "

man if this was a show they would have to cast Eva Mendes....not sure who could replace her. She is soo bad.
