It's a vicious cycle. I can't ever see future generations not keep this sneaker thing going. Definitely not basketball cards or beanie babies. There's a lot of factors keeping this sneaker "culture" strong that are cemented in our society. Slowed down maybe, but there will always be something nike can do to feed the beast

All things come to an end. I don't believe for a bit that JB or Nike will continue to experience the soaring heights that they enjoy now...it's just not sustainable given the fickleness of the current order of things.

Brooklyn Projects just put up on instagram they have some sizes left for the SOMPs. I just got off the phone, got my size. Real nice chick answered my call and took my order.

Even when the next big thing comes there will still be a lot of people that are into sneaker collecting, but when the bubble pops expect to see everything but timeless classics lose their inflated value quickly. Had those Jordan Futures come out 4 years ago people would have been ripping them as Hybrid Trash, limit them to a few shops in the US today and the resale value is over 500 overnight.

What's new these days that we'll look back on and lust after 20 years from now? I can't read the tea leaves that well, but I'd venture to say it's probably some stuff that ends up on clearance at the outlets. The newest tech that I've learned to love and can imagine it being desirable 20 years from now are the flyknits.

I agree with some of your reasoning, it's just so hard to envision. Since the time they starting going strong with the retros (99-early 00s) there has been no signs of them slowing down. Even with quality complaints rising they have maintained themselves and created mass hysteria for any shoe they want. As far as nike sb, they had their glory days and the cycle is definitely on the rise again. Like I said, many many factors I could give that could disprove any reasoning that would say the Jordans/sneaker craze is going to just all of a sudden go away in a few years.

And this is coming from someone that actually liked the first few releases from the AJF line of shoes. I thought the AJF3 and AJF12 were pretty well done, so I'm not against hybrids at all.

The way I look at it, as time goes on it's becoming less a thing about MJ's accomplishments on the court and just a fashion thing. Nike/JB have almost finished milking the vault of pairs he actually wore/ were released in his playing era. As the years go by they're going to have to figure out a way to keep it relevant. The only thing I can think of that would work is if they took a page from adidas and JB brought the retros back into the actual performance basketball spectrum and stopped treating them as lifestyle shoes. Reengineer them to be performance basketball shoes, but don't monkey with the silhouettes when you do it.

I still won't buy them, especially since it sounds like they're doing them with a white exterior paint coating that needs to be scratched before the royal/black, black/red gets revealed. I've got most of the key pieces I want from JB and nothing they've done with SB has wowed me enough to make me open my wallet. I was wowed by the AJKO Chicago this weekend though, so I'll occasionally still buy something from them.

good insight from you guys

all things considered i think that releasing the shoes at such a fast rate could be their downfall. although we've seen classics drop even 3-4 years apart and their "market values" have maintained or even gone up. as far as re engineering their classic shoes for performance, this has happened with hit and miss results as well, although there is a bigger market for it now than ever. And their overpriced new jordan basketball shoes and JB members shoes (CP3, Melo) don't sell well at retail at all. all i can take from it is people will always be in the market for jordans he wore on the court and limited pairs.
