If I could get em for under 250 Id be pleased

For you ebay vets, when you've won an auction.....I think I've read some of you guys messaging the seller to purchase the item straight through paypal. Which in essence would save the seller ebay fees. Due to the seller skipping out on ebay fees, you're then able to ask for a little bit of a lower price? I'm not sure if I had understood the concept correctly, so if I'm wrong I stand to be corrected. I would just like some confirmation on this, and also how much lower can one offer? I would only offer the difference saved in ebay fees or so.

If I win something for $50, and am trying to get the seller to just use paypal direct....I should propose that with a price of ________ for example?

I usually offer 15% less just to start the negotiating. if the seller comes back with 10% ill always bite.

in your case, i would offer 42.50

Thanks so much DC! And what's the right verbiage to facilitate this. Do I tell him "hey I won your auction, and would you be willing to let me buy straight through paypal for $42.50 in order to bypass ebay fees?" Thanks again.

seller is going to be charged 10% of the total selling price. It's worth it to ask if they're willing to do a direct paypal deal somewhere in between that 10%

Yea that was probably my first mistake. Not offering or throwing it out there before the auction ends.

Will I get "in trouble" for proposing this through ebay's messaging system. Do they monitor the messages and will subsequently ban me or something due to the nature of the message?
