OFFICIAL HOCKEY THREAD: NHL, KHL, NCAA, IIHL

sorry OKB...like i said, he's a helluva player. but he'll always be under a scope for me after getting put in that group of defensemen. that's all. i know the kid can play.

In PK SUBBAN second year, they asked PK to work on his D, Montreal had the 7th ranked PK%, PK was 3rd on the team in short handed minutes, but nooooo he's a terrible defenders.

:rolleyes

so in his norris year he played against tougher Quality of Competition, and started on in his own zone MORE than Zdeno Chara on a team that 5TH ins shots allowed per game but NOOOOO Subban is a horrible defender.

FUNNY how These defensive reputations work. :nerd:

edit.

wow at how Mike Green has become a DH.

early ether

been sayin PK gets a bad rap... by his coach, ppls perceptions smh

i got keith as the early front runner for Norris then Karlsson. EK will win multiples tho. he really is a threat to score 70 pts from the blueline every year. its ******ed.

 @ "early ether"

do people actually watch these guys play? or do we just look at fancy charts and stats? PK's game has definitely come a long way. top defenseman in the league? please.

no one is hating on either of these guys. they can play for sure. would i take either on my team? yes, of course. but there are other defenseman i'd rather have before them.

and  @ where mike green is on that chart :smh:

EDIT: and 2011-12 was EK's norris year, right? that wasn't PK's norris year. interested to see where EK falls on that chart.

he was used similar to lindstrom.

Look, to really know a players defensive impact you got to watch them a TON, and most people just go off reputation and off reputation people seem to think that PK and Karlsson are the same type of player as Yandle and Mike Green is flat out not true.

Mike Green and Yandle are guys where the coaches don't trust them AT ALL in any defensive situation or against any serious competition as evidenced by the usage charts Karlsson and PK aren't nearly that bad. They aren't like power play specialist who you shelter from difficult match ups.

Also people never seem to give them credit for the fact they are the main offensive cog's of their team, you would breath a sigh of relief if the Sens used any of Karlsson or PK's for penalty killing.

FYI, these starts aren't fancy, its just where there coaches chose to deploy them, its simple.

here is 2013 2014.

EDIT.

If you thought Chara should have won the norris that year, i think thats a totally legit argument, to be honest it was close, I just get annoyed when people act like he didn't deserve it after having a historically great offensive season.

yeah i mean i don't think either guy (EK or PK) are like yandle or green in terms of absolute liability. green is atrocious. yandle i don't hate...but i would take him with the full understanding that i get very little defensively.

and i think you nailed it. i do think that was chara's year to win. it's why i'm tough on him when watching him play.

ESB

Champ...Seth has been asked to do a lot this year. kid has a nice future ahead of him.

Krug isnt sniffin the calder DSA sry. Hes good but hes honestly not even the best rookie defensemen. Very important to ur team tho. Since Hertl went down MacKinnon gunna win by landslide. Looks like hes headed for 30 plus goals n 60 plus pts.

yeah i don't have my hopes up or anything for krug and the calder...but kid has had a HUGE impact on our team.

wouldn't be mad at all if nate wins

Don't sleep on Scheifele.

I like de Haan but that could be Northeast bias.

Nah... Scheifele and Trouba are gonna finish first and second

Seriously though, its going to be MacKinnon he's had a great year

Ya maybe not sniff was a little strong seeing as he was the front runner the whole first half. Schiefele real talented but playin on winnipeg kills his chances haha chiasson n nusch were good to start the season. Cant believe drouin never got called up. Lightning gunna be good for a long time.

My short list. In order

Mack
Krug
Tyler Johnson

I dunno if granulanD. Monahan and nyquist are first or 2nd yearers but id throw them right beneath those 3

Chiasson looked great early. Had something like 9 points in the first 10 games...but he's been quite a drought lately.

Nischuskin needs to quit being so passive. I think playing on a line with two guys like SeguIn and Benn has him playing a gunshy and feeling like he has to be the third option behind those two. He'll be great once he gets going and gets that confidence up though.

Torey Krug will definitely not win any kind of award. I think it's because he was in the Playoffs last year and people think he has more experience than other rookies.

He is however extremely valuable to the Bruins team though. We finally got the "puck moving defenseman" that PC has been yearning for since Tomas Kaberle! Seriously, he has been amazing on the PP and gives us another dimension on it. I can see him breaking Bourque's record for goals.

I don't think that PC should trade for a veteran defenseman. I have loved every second of the young guys that we have on the back end. Bart is making HUGE strides and Miller is once tough SOB. He straight hammered Smith today in his fight.

Look, the Norris is always gonna go to the defenseman with the most points. It's all about numbers and stats not about the amount of times you poke check the puck from a forward and get it of your zone. It's about the goals, assists and points. That's the reason why Karlsson won it. If you saw the game today, you could clearly see the defensive deficiencies the guy has in his own zone. He was a statue when Bergeron had the puck for his second goal.

except for when mike greene, Visnovsky, neidermyer, gonchar, al mcinnis, or brian leetch didn't win, all those guy led in d man scoring and didn't win the norris.

the reality is with rare exception (extremly dominant offensive seaons, Karrlsson/Subban/Coffey)

they just don't give norris trophies to guys like Greene, or Zubov, or Gonchar, guys with poor defensive reputations.

Getzlaf gonna mess around and steal the Hart.

Yup. If him and perry both mess around and hit 40 goals 90 pts which their both on.pace to do i could def see it. Still thinknit should be sid or tavares, okposo has more pts than ovechkin like woahhh. Can never qrgue with it toin to the best player on the best team tho and Anahie is on a mission

You would imagine Okposo has to be one of the first to mind to replace Pacioretty. Him, Ryan, Saad.

Patches got cleared for sochi back spasms. But youd think hed have dustin browns spot n the first place. I know we need leadership n grit yada yada but its a joke hes not on the team. Saad should have browns spot too.
