OFFICIAL HOCKEY THREAD: NHL, KHL, NCAA, IIHL

Yak will flourish once he gets out of Edmonton. Not sure what his price will be, but I have no doubt that he'll be wearing a different sweater to start the 14-15 season.

but you don't want a Russian like that on your team... he's a cancer!!

Caps beat reporter (Chuck Gromley) is a hack, but he's saying that they may be in on trying to trade for Phaneuf.

They had another kings parade in manhattan beach today :pimp:

Im kidding, I just never see the Oilers jump over Canucks - and I really want them to jump over the Flames this year. I just don't believe in that defense of theirs. We'll see how far Scrivens/Fasth takes them. But when they went up at a top 5 draft pick again, I wouldn't be surprised. :smh:
66/1 Stanley Cup 2015 odds if you bet on your Calgary Flames.

^ okay lol, I do want them to be in the basement anyway. Eichel and McDavid, woo. But I'll stand by my statement of Oilers not making the playoffs this year.

Multiple pages back saw the Oilers mentioned, I care about Edmonton. Love their young core moving forward. Eberle, Nurse, Yakupov, Perron, Hall, Gagner, RNH. Finally have a capable goalie in Scrivens, stood on his head a few starts for the Oilers.
So has every analyst for the past couple of yrs and they'll still suck... EDM that is. With or w/o your beloved Nurse

Them young guns have grown accustomed to losing and its become a culture.

Habs will match anything under 9 or so million. So you sign Subban and give up 4 1st Round picks heading into one of the best draft classes in a decade? Not a good idea for a team that isn't a clear contender even with Subban. The Caps should either buy low on Phaneuf/Campbell or wait it out and see if they can get Marc Staal in Free Agency next year.

In regards to the Oilers, I think this might actually be the year they break through. Depending on how much the Sharks decide to blow it up, there could be at least one playoff spot open for VAN/EDM/CGY/PHX to duke it out for. If the Oilers can find one more top 4 d-man I'd have it between them and the Yotes.

Caps need a top-4 D man in the worst way, and Subban would help immensely. GMBM said that getting a top-4 d man is a priority, so of course you're gonna have to pay. I do hope they put out an offer sheet and show that they're serious. This team still has weapons...just a couple of pieces away from becoming dangerous again. Window is slowly closing for Ovechkin/Backstrom. If they're serious about contending for a cup, they need to go all in. Can't just sit back an wait. Now is the time to be aggressive.

Anyways...

Maybe they'll announce the WC opponent with the schedule (location TBD), and then try to get a bump when they announce venue later?

Confirming Brad Richards has been bought out by #Rangers. He is owed 12.6M through the 25-26 #NHL season.

I'm going to hate when they get Thornton, Spezza or Kesler.

You don't have to worry about it being Spezza or Kesler. Kesler won't waive for NYR and Bryan Murray wants to trade Spezza to the West. I do think Thornton to the Rangers is pretty likely, however. If anyone can get Nash back on track, it's Joe. At least in the regular season.

Flames had that rumor of offering a 9 year 64 million contract to Brad back in '11 :x
Won't mind him on the team now if it's under 4 mill a year, which isn't happening

I wish they'd get some more variety going for the Winter Classic. Gimme Avs/Wild. The Caps hosting Tampa would have been cool.

Sounds like the other outdoor game is going to be Kings @ Sharks.

With the Winter Classic being the NHL's marquee event, there isn't a chance that the Minnesota Wild will be on network TV (anytime soon). For as bad as the Caps were this year, they still have star-power and enough to generate interest in the game.
