Today was the first day for the Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend festivities and after doing my research I decided to go on Day 1 of the Expo to get some exclusive gear before they sell out.

Walking to the convention center early in the morning I came across this and that is when it really hit me that race weekend is finally here.

Now the expo did not open until 10 AM this morning but after reading reviews from previous RunDisney forums, they recommended to line up early because re-sellers will try to snatch everything up. So I thought 7:30 was safe and when I got to the Convention Center the line was at least 100 deep. At least they were showing the original trilogy while we waited a couple hours.

Fast forward to the end of the day here is what I picked up:

These are the runner tees

The rest are from the official merchandise booth. I did not plan on spending this much but so many things looked nice and this is my first RunDisney event so I made an exception. My next one I will be more selective (I hope)

Aww crap, forgot this weekend was the SW HM, I was going to go to Disneyland tomorrow but I might just postpone it til next Friday because it's going to be crazy crowded.

Best of luck Chris, have fun!

CONGRATS to all those who ran the Star Wars races this past weekend! :nthat: Looking at all the IG pics makes me jelly! Disney always puts on a great race!

I loved my Crimson V10s so much that I purchased another cw in these pillow tanks! haha

The StarWars themed run looks awesome. Post more pics if you guys can. Those Crimson shoes look sweet.

Anyone have any experience with anti-chafe/blister products like BodyGlide? I get horrible blisters after anything after 21k runs.

I just returned to the Bay Area earlier this evening and this is by far my favorite race because of all the energy surrounding the weekend. Already anticipating the Inaugural Star Wars Half Marathon - The Dark Side at WDW in April. I could have PR'd the Half but I stopped and took so many pictures and thought that was a decent trade off. I feel that RunDisney races more than any other race I have participated in is more about the experience than breaking personal records imo. Maybe after a couple RunDisney races I'll switch it up and focus solely on PR's but for now I am soaking in everything.

I will say my favorite photo op during the 10K and Half was R2 and BB-8. Also got pics inside Star Wars Launch Bay with Darth Vader, he was most displeased with my Rebel attire, Chewbacca, and Boba Fett.

Here are some more pics;

I've been rocking this shirt ever since the event ended this morning.

Here is the back of that shirt with maps of the 10K and Half summarizing the 19.3 miles.

Also, there was a photo op of Hoth after the finish line. Thought this was such a cool idea that I did not mind waiting in line to do.

Amazing! The whole Disney/Star Wars race weekend looks like an experience you'll cherish for a lifetime! Congrats!

I ran my first half at Disney, and I was focused on time. I finished in the (a little over) the top 1%. However, I feel like I would've enjoyed it even more if I ran for the Disney experience. By that, I mean taking it ALL IN and not worrying too much about pace and place.

I thought the same thing last week!  If I do it again, I'm definitely going to take in more of the surroundings.  There were a few runners that I think made their own challenge - they ran the race and got pictures at every stop. That might be the way to do it next time, except I hate getting my picture taken, haha.

Now I do not know how it is for other RunDisney races but I think that is the strategy to go with if anyone wants photo ops inside the parks. Run above your pace so you beat the long lines. For Star Wars the hype is still going from the recent film so every picture stop had a line of at least 20 minutes. For the 10K the wait for BB-8 took longer than expected, so much that by the time I got my picture I was 1:25 behind the swept line and if you are participating in a challenge and get swept in any race the challenge becomes voided. I sprinted those final 2+ miles like Rey and Finn did on Jakku in the movie

However, during the Half I skipped all the photo ops except for R2, I got to his line fairly early, because I was told that last year around Mile 9 there were a block of cosplayers to take photos with with little to no lines and sure enough they were there this year. Thought that was pretty cool of them to wake up super early to take pictures and to cheer us on for the final 4 miles.

God, I am still hyped from the weekend! Cannot wait to go back! :pimp:

I was in the first 500 runners for the race, so the lines weren't long at all (4 deep may have been the longest) - I didn't even think about how long those lines would have been later in the race.  Especially for Star Wars, that would be nuts.

Yeah if a person started after corral C this past weekend there was little to no chance they would get a photo with a very popular character. Security started shutting down lines because they were getting too big.

Nice color! I'm tempted to grab the crimsons from FNL right now, but I've got a biz trip scheduled in March, and could use an excuse to swing by SL clearance. I'm sure they'll have a few V10s to choose from for cheap

I bought this stick to use with my nipples :nerd:, worked horribly and did nothing. I get a lot of rub there, so I'm sure it wasn't the product's fault. It wasn't expensive though, I bought the mini version for about $5

The last half I ran is the first time I started to notice an issue with nipple soreness.  Body Glide wasn't good enough?  I have to start looking into this soon.

I personally never run without a compression shirt, as snug/tight as possible and so far haven't had a problem with chafing.

And RunDisney is definitely an experience, got to love the enthusiasm of the participants and workers. Also, there is nothing like running around Disney while it is still close, Carsland was awesome at dawn.

Agree with the compression shirt. I always have one on and compression tights. It helps with any body rubbing

Yah, compression tights are a must too.

I actually want to see what Nikes latest Power Speed tights are about but damn that $150 price tag.

I've done compression shirts in the past, so I'll probably go back to that.  I know on the warmer days I overheat a little, but for the next three months that shouldn't be an issue.

$150 is a little much. Most of mine cost under $25 from either Nike or underarmour. I just got a pair of winter tights from 2xu for Christmas, and I gotta say I'm liking them and they feel a lot thicker than my cheaper ones.

Compressions shirts actually help me cool off, you sure you don't have the cold-gear compressions?

Nikes more expensive compression option actually has some ventilation/mesh that helps if you want to check them out.

If there's an Asics outlet near you, check them out, I got a couple of compression shirts for $8 each a month or so ago. They also have sleeveless options.
