Sup guys, I'm registered to run the Disney Dark Side half marathon in about 2 weeks in Orlando.. problem is, I've never ran a half marathon in my life. :lol: :\

Work completely took over my life in the month of March(I know, excuses excuses :smh: ) and the last run I ever completed was 10 miles back on 02/28. The most miles I've ever ran...

So my question, what training program would you guys recommend for these next 12 days.? And most importantly, how likely is it that I'll even complete the race.? :lol:

If you've been running at least a little bit last month I think you'll be okay. You already ran 10, basically a half marathon!

I ran a marathon back in october, and hadn't ran more than 18 miles, which was about 5 weeks prior. For a month prior I wasn't really running, just 2-3 miles here and there, but nothing really. Ran the marathon and felt great, but couldn't go fast because of my knee.

edit- just saw your wrote "last run". I still think you'll be fine, just start running now though..

yah half marathon is like 3 miles more, as long as you weren't too gassed when you did the 10 mile then you should be ok

from here on out though, just amp up your runs a bit, maybe run a little faster some days and run a little longer the next then rest or jog the third day

it's just about improving your stamina especially if you aren't really trying to beat your time, when it comes to RunDisney, I find it more fun to take less seriously and absorb the environment and take pics on every stop
 
You could always try the run/walk - run one mile, walk one minute.  I've never done it, but I know people that swear by it, and run sub-3.15 marathons with it.

How fast do they run the running minutes? This is very interesting :lol:

this is pretty much like HIIT, there are different variations and it's up to you which works for you

it's pretty much a variation of running as fast as you can for 15sec (as in sprint as fast as yyou can) then jog/walk for 15-30sec, run 15sec then jog/walk 15-30sec, rinse and repeat and withing about 4-5 minutes and you'd be sweating bullets

you can up the intensity if you're a bit more fit or with better stamina though that might be a bit more hardcore a better way to start might be 10 minute warm up, 4 minutes fast run then 4 minutes slower run and repeat that about 3-4 times

I know, right?  I was trying to do the math and I think each running mile needs to be sub-7, or something like that.  It's a Jeff Galloway thing, I think.

I'd love to pull off a negative split marathon, but I don't have the discipline.  I'm from the school of "run that way fast until you get tired, and then slow down".  Plus, the first mile of Boston is downhill, and in a massive crowd, so I have no idea how I won't get trampled at some point.

Found a pair of Clifton 1s on Amazon by casually browsing. Feel like these are extinct. Cannot wait to try them out.
 
I have some reservations on the LunarEpic as currently constituted, but I may try the low cut, if it actually comes out.

Early registration opened today for annual pass and disney vacation pass holders. The Dopey challenge sold out quick for the limited bibs they made available today.General registration to the public opens next Tuesday and it will sell out quick. Big reason is next year will be the 20th anniversary for Disneyworld Marathon.

Nice!  I'm running the Vegas marathon in November and can't swing a second trip that soon, but I have decided that the Dopey Challenge is now on the Goal List.

Nice are you running the half or full, and are you doing the 5k on Saturday night for the remix challenge? I ran the 5K and half last year for Rock N Roll Las Vegas. The half last year was pretty rough since it was cold, breezy as hell, and it started to rain around mile 2. The full I heard is even worse. I had a few friends run it over the past few years and they all said they would never run the full again in Vegas :lol:

As for comparing the 2 most popular and well known race organizers (Run Disney and Rock N Roll Marathon Series). Rock N Roll you will get more out of a Tour Pass by getting a yearly or 3 pack.Also it's nice having a free beer after the race even though it's Michelob Ultra :lol: . Also there is a free concert after each race and some pretty well known performers.Last year RnR SD had: Aloe Blacc, RnR Virginia Beach had: Cheryl Crowe, RnR Chicago had: Andy Grammer, RnR LA had: Sir Mix A Lot, RnR SF had: American Authors.


Run Disney they have better Medals, and are better organized IMHO but you will spend a TON of money on race registrations, air plane tickets, hotels if you don't live in LA, Socal, Anaheim, or Orlando when you go out for the races.Then there's cost of a park hopper tickets which aren't cheap, if you aren't a annual pass holder which itself is ridiculously over priced. Because more than likely people treat these as a runcation when they sign up and do a run disney race.I mean you can easily drop $1000 to $1500 alone on yourself for a run disney race, if you have a wife or significant other and kids be prepared to spend even more.Which is why I honestly treat and view run disney races more as novelty races.I mean yeah there are people that take the races seriously and go out for a PR or BQ, but at the same time there are a ton of runners out on the course who are there just for the experience who stop and take pictures with theme characters at mile makers, plenty of people who it's they're first 5k, 10K, half or full marathon and you can tell they haven't trained right or hard enough.

Well, this may be me being provincial, but I think I ran the best race in the world yesterday, haha.

I ran the Disney Half this past January, and loved it.  You're definitely right about the experience, organization, and cost.  Luckily, I got some Disney GCs to defray some of the costs for my birthday and Christmas, but I still dropped about $900 out of pocket.  I would definitely do it again - like I said, once I was down there, I wished I had signed up for the Dopey Challenge, but being a teacher, that's tough to get those days off immediately after the winter break.  I'm pursuing a Doctorate right now, so if I'm a professor in a few years, the schedule will be more favorable.

Also, I did not PR.

For Vegas, I registered for the full marathon.  I did hear about last year's horror (the course was something like 28.5 miles because it was mismarked), but I'm assuming they actually measured out this course change more accurately.  I just like the idea of finishing on the Strip all lit up.  I'm not near BQ status (I won a waiver for yesterday), so it will be mostly for fun - as *fun* as running a marathon is, anyway.  I hadn't looked into the 5K, but that seems like a no-brainer to sign up for.  As for rain, running in Boston winters pretty much prepares you for anything Vegas can throw at you.  I mean, rain sucks, but it won't be rainy and 31 degrees.  Rainy and upper 40s is fine by me.

The funny thing is that the race experience won't be the most expensive part of this trip.  It happens right after my wife's 40th birthday, and I promised her a pair of Louboutins while we were out there.  Been putting away money since last year for those.
 
Debating if I should sign up for the WDW Marathon only. Do not think I will be able to do the Dopey Challenge and follow up the next weekend with the Rebel Challenge at DLR. It would be very difficult to get that many days off in a week span and I cannot even imagine how much money that would be if I did Dopey and the Rebel Challenge.

Star Wars Light Side Rebel Challenge: $340 +$20 or $10 active.com processing fee. Depending if you have active advantage.

Personally for me next year I'll do Dopey and do the Disneyland Paris half to get the coast to chateau medal next year.

After that I'm done and won't do a run disney race for awhile.

Evil Mickey is just getting out of hand on the pricing for run disney races and it's showing when Disneyland Half and Dumbo Double Dare aren't even sold out yet and have been open for like 2 months now. Super Hero's weekend (aka Avengers half marathon weekend) also isn't sold out yet for the Infinity Gauntlet challenge or Half marathon and that opened up 2 weeks ago. Before all of those races would sell out the day they went on sale within hours.
 
Anybody doing the bolder boulder on Memorial Day in here? Not sure about other 10ks, but this one is pretty fun.

Hoka's Claytons, Tracers and Road Rockets have me interested. I'm not a huge fan of their colorways though...


I've been running in the Newton Distance 3s this month (97mi), and I love them! They're definitely in my Top 5. I just purchased the 4s too... I'll probably bring them out in May.
