I don't think it was Massa's fault... Checo had brake problems... probably braked early... caught Massa off cuz he wasn't expecting it.

It wasn't Massa's fault. Perez braked early and moved a bit to the left under braking, which was probably a result of said brake problems moreso than driver error. Great race, great first win for Ricciardo. Might be my new favorite driver since JB is almost done. Glad to see him putting Vettel in the dirt.

SUPER happy for Daniel... seeing guys win their maiden race... very special.  And Jenson in P4!!!!  I still can't believe it.

Happy for Daniel but I'm so mad.

The amount of luck Nico had this race.

Lewis has to finish 4 times again to get the lead back in the championship.

It's his to lose at this point.

Massa was way too eager. He's got a track record for stupid **** like this.

Gonna need to see a few more replays, but it's not an issue of eagerness.  If Checo was having brake problems, then he was always gonna brake earlier... there was no way for Massa to have known that.  Sure, his team would have told him, but there was no way for him to judge how bad Checo's brakes were and how much earlier he was gonna brake.

We'll have to see the analysis from the Sky and BBC guys to be sure, of course.

They showed 1 good replay from behind both cars. It appeared to me that when Perez got on the brakes his car twitched and Massa clipped him. Now, I don't think that it was Perez's fault by any means, but to say Massa was "way too eager"? It was the last lap. He was the fastest car on track and he wanted that podium. Had to pass Perez there and try to get Vettel at the end of the backstretch.

What a race! ....felt bad for Lewis but that was a fun fight.

And to think Vettel or Massa could have easily won that race in the last couple laps with the potential problems with Nico's car and Ricciardo's tires.

The crash was Perez's fault . He tried to block Felipe while he was making his move on him an Vettel

Ferrari :smh:

Watched the dvr earlier today.. awesome race. Great job by Nico to hold on to a podium spot with the trouble the Merc's were having. Daniel :smokin

After having viewed the crash a few more times, while I still think most of the blame is on Checo (70/30), I do think a 5-place grid penalty is a bit harsh.  He said that he was defending his position going into T1, where you could see his car moving left, while Massa was moving right.  A point of reference would be to see where Seb was with regards to the racing line.  From the overhead video, you can see the racing line was kinking towards the right, with Massa and Seb moving in that direction, while Checo was edging left.

Anyway... a juicy war-of-words between Williams and Force India now... in other words, just another day of F1.

Yup, definitely Sergio's more to blame. He cut off Felipe's path to the corner by moving slightly off line.

Anyway, enough of F1 for the weekend. Le Mans this weekend. Fernando would be at the Circuit de la Sarthe to be a race starter, I think. Many believe Ferrari will be announcing their return to sportscar racing as a works team :nerd:

There were arguments that Checo had his steering wheel straight, while Massa had his slightly towards the right... but that was cuz the of the right-kink leading into T1.

Anyway... Le Mans not overlapping with the Canadian GP this year... great.  Plus they're streaming lots this year.  I'll definitely try to watch as much as I can.

Under normal circumstances you absolutely have a right to defend the braking line. When your brakes are shot and you know you're going to be braking early, you're essentially brake-checking the guy. I think the penalty was warranted.

Loic Duval just had a massive accident at the Porsche curves during free practice just minutes ago: :wow: :x
