So, the 2007 Calender year is closing fast, which means two things.

1) Happy New Year NT
2) Time to review the top stories of the year 2007

Unfortunately, this year has been one of the biggest year's for negative stories involving sports. Which, in your opinion, was the biggest storiesinvolving sports this year.

1) Tim Donaghy Referee Scandal

2) Mike Vick involved with Dog Fighting

Any others, feel free to mention.
Which story do you think had the biggest impact on the sporting world this year?

EDIT: See, this is what sucks doing this at work. I forget things like "Pats going 16-0" or "Cinderella Story - Colorado Rockies". Damnwork.

Spygate was HUGE.

First sophomore to win the Heisman.

The branding of the home run ball.

However, Mike Vick was the biggest story this year by far.

The Vick thing is the one that drew the most heat during the year. I'd say the Mitchell report second, and Bonds third.

I would say that one of the NFL's marquee players/stars being sentenced to 2 years in jail during the prime of his career is the biggest story of the year.

Spygate wasn't that big

Apparently you didn't watch ESPN at the start of the football season then. They wouldn't shut up about it. It wasn't as large as Vick or theMitchell report, but for about 2-3 weeks they had to bring it up at least twice a Sportscenter.

What I really hated from sports channels in Canada is the fact that they ignored most of these things. The referee scandal was totally blown over, Sean Taylorwasnt mentioned at all, and the Mitchell report was only looked at about Roger Clemens.

Damn country and our hockey.

ESPN will talk about anything forever just because they have nothing better to do. Spygate occurred in Week One against a terrible team that the Patscould've easily crapped all over with anything "assistance".

You seriously think the Patriots need to steal signals to beat the lowly Jets?

Now compare that with everything else that occurred in 2007 and it pales in comparison.

EDIT - In retrospect, 2007 was a hell of a year in Sports

From Bonds to Beckham. From the Pats to Pretty Boy Floyd Mayweather.

So many huge stories in professional sports

It has nothing to do with my personal beliefs, I was just saying that for 2-3 week every analyst had "their opinion" about the wholeordeal, the fines, etc etc.

The Jets do suck, though.

I think the ref scandal was blown over wayyyyy too much. I thought it was much more serious than the media made it out to be.

lol a few yrs ago, the pats had no respect from the media, this yr they have TOO MUCH. damn you espn, stop hyping our team up

I would say the 2007 College Football season should be somewhere on a list. It was the most unpredictable and probably the most exciting season I've everseen. Unfortunately, it's crime that makes the headlines

I disagree, the Tim Donguhey (sp?whatever) scandal proved that NBA refs do indeed have biases towards players and teams. Refs are suppose to call'emlike they see'em; apparently they're not

Also, Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 team fined a cool $100M for receiving improper documents from Nigel Stepney of Scuderia Ferrari, i.e. Stepneygate

As I looked over what I wrote, I totally realized i said the exact opposite of what I wanted to say.

The case was blown off, not over, as in not even considered by the media and other sports networks. I thought it should have had the biggest impact (next toMike Vick) this year. I totally agree with you on that point, and without a doubt it was huge in the world of sports this year.

And for the Oregon Ducks fan, I totally agree with you on the college football point. Not exactly the top story, but it made for a great season because nobodyreally proved they were number one for a long period of time. I know im not big on NCAA football, and some things I do say involving the college game are a bitoff, but it was definately fun seeing how the standings turned out over the course of the season.

2007 was actually pretty good eh?
