OFFICIAL THE WIRE THREAD.. ''The game is the game"

Season 2 connected so many dots it's probably the most essential. People who dislike season 2 are in it for the gangsta epic and not the full story, they just wanna see the street ****. Even then you should like it, it showed the biggest boss of them all.

I wanted to punch Valchek every time he said Sobotka. But I was praying for Ziggy's death. Rawls is most def the most deplorable.

The only time I ever liked Rawls was shortly after Kima got shot and he actually showed his police skill on and around the crime scene.

Stringer will forever be a clown for messing with D's BM.

Marlo is that dude, bunk and mike too.

Chris was cold too.

Stringer Bell was THAT dude, he had aspirations beyond the corner, beyond the stoops of Baltimore - Respect :smokin

Stringer made business decisions, you can't be mad at that.

The only time he ever made an emotional/personal/irrational decision was when he found out Clay robbed him. Every other move for strictly business.

People got upset at that Donnette situation, but that happens in real life all the time in the game.

That scene is always hard for me to watch. As much as i liked Stingers business mind and his ability to thing above the street , Avons code was something that I always put above Stringers mindset. With Avon you knew where he stood you knew what side of the fence he was on and you knew if it went down to it he was right there willing to fight with his soldiers.

This scene here tells you everything about the two.

One of my favorite lines by Avon " I'm just a gangsta i suppose"

EXACTLY!!! Avon never saw the BIG picture... Was only in it for the name. My guy beat me to it but this is the perfect scene to show what i was saying.

Slim was always one of my favorite characters. This scene gave me chills.

Despite the snitching Wallace was one of my favorite characters for some reason. This scene broke his character down for me. He wasn't hood enough to get threw the life and wasn't slick enough to work his way around it (like poot) but it was all he knew and couldn't adapt to anything else . He had a good heart but at the end of the day it wasn't enough.

I think hampsterdam was a brilliant social experiment that would probably work with a few more restrictions.

This. It took me to watch the entire series to appreciate it and understand why it was necessary.

Exactly. Avon knew what he was and was perfectly fine with it.

Smart dude, good business acumen and vision, but he was a slimy, selfish, egomaniac, untrustworthy snake. I used to think String was that dude because if I was in the game I'd be business oriented the same. Not on that rewatch though. If y'all haven't seen it in a while it's good to go back and check it out. I def need a blu-ray collection though, I don't care if it's 4:3 with bars on the side, that's how I've been watching it.

I've noticed how people react to Stringer as a character really reveals what you value in life.

Idk about value, but it is definitely interesting. Seems like fans are 50/50 with a slim edge to Avon, its for sure a love/hate thing.

both were boss type dudes, but Avon was upfront about it. there were never any doubt's what his intentions were. Stringer was a snake

Another reason why I can't get down or understand the game. There's no loyalty on any level, none.

A couple of years ago, I was teaching an Urban Economics class and one of my students had cited The Wire several times. There were many other sources cited and it was good paper so I gave the young lady an "A" grade but I did write in the works cited section "some profs may not consider a TV show to be an academic source. Such injustice is just all part of the game."

While The Wire is not the very strongest in terms of pure story telling, it is my favorite show because the story telling is very good and its ability to engage with deep social, political and economic issues is better than every other fictional show combined.

I hate to sound elitist when I say the following but The Wire does not do much to inform, it is a show for the informed. The more you learn about the media, the economy, sociology, law enforcement, the courts, our politics and the daily lives of the poor, the more The Wire comes across as pure candor disguised as a drama about the streets.
