Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (a Spaghetti Western) scheduled for release Christmas 2012

You all do realize Jamie Foxx can't act for chit, right? He won't ruin the movie but...he'll come close. Quote me on this.

he was good in the soloist and ray

He was also excellent in Collateral.

Jamie isn't a top actor but from what I've read Django isn't the primary focus for most of the movie, so I highly doubt he'd have a chance to ruin the movie. Then considering Tarantino's script and direction will likely be strong/dominant, an average performance by Foxx will still be good.

SlashFilm.com just posted a new story here

In six to eight weeks, Quentin Tarantino should begin shooting his new film, Django Unchained, in which a German dentist-turned bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) and freed slave Django (Jamie Foxx) seek to free Django’s wife from her powerful owner. The film has quite a few big roles left to cast — chief among them being Django’s wife, Broomhilda — but the film has added actor Gerald McRaney to its roster. We don’t know his role, but there are a couple parts in the script the actor could take. None of them are very large, but he’ll be a welcome presence in any capacity.

In addition, Variety confirms that Samuel L. Jackson will indeed play Stephen, the head house slave to villain Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio). He’s had the role as far as we knew almost from the first moment Django Unchained was announced, but since the script has Stephen and Candie at about the same age and DiCaprio is a lot younger than Jackson, we wondered if there was any chance the role might be recast. Turns out that’s not to be; there could be a small rewrite to accommodate the age difference, but it shouldn’t be a big change. Kevin Costner was also in talks to play a slave trainer in Candie’s employ; I very much hope he got the role.

Django Unchained will be released by the Weinstein Company on December 25, 2012.

McRaney is a good choice. Dude was great in Deadwood.

@ SLJ as Stephen

i wonder how hes going to work his famous trunk scene into a movie where cars weren't invented yet

^ DubA169- If you talking about disappointed in Will Smith, I'm not suprised. Doing a movie with slavery as a central theme of the movie that's not a historical biopic type of flick is very dicey & Will Smith has always been kind of PC.

On another note, I can't imagine what Tarantino is going to come up with when he does Kill Bill 3. My buddy says he's going to do a story regarding Copper Head's (Vivica Fox's character) daughter getting revenge on Beatrix Kiddo. He might be somewhat limited on doing other stories because David Carradine being dead (RIP).

Probably not a trunk, but like how he did in Inglourious Bastards.

i dont think thats gonna be much of a problem since Bill died anyways, and its set in the future. I know QT could pull it off. Im more concerned with the pre-bite that Colombiana did

Costner has to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

^for real? Cosner dropping out? I wonder if Superman is getting in the way of this movie. This could make him relevant again like Pulp Fiction did for Travolta. I would've liked seeing him play a bad guy...

Costner's role wouldn't have been all that major, he'd be overshadowed greatly by Leo, Waltz, Foxx, and Samuel anyways.  And from what I remember he really would have only had a few solid minutes that mattered, the rest would be minor moments.

Sucks, I would have liked to seen Costner give it a go, but he has plenty of work lately so that's how it goes.  Who knows, maybe the guy that takes his spot will be even better.

You people saying Jamie Foxx can't act cannot be serious. Whats the last bad acting job dude had? Booty Call? He was even hilarious in that

From what SlashFilm.com says here, the role would have been somewhat controversial given the subject matter & Costner has kinda played it safe with his roles so I'm not that suprised.

The entire movie is controversial, it's QT.  I've read the script, it's going to make ears bleed.

And like Faint said, Kevin was a serial killer in Mr Brooks, he'd survive just fine.  Every person in that movie is going to get dirty from this, but that's the point, it's just a movie with touchy subject matter.  Hence Will Smith not having the stones for it.
