Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained (a Spaghetti Western) scheduled for release Christmas 2012

I like Tarintino films this one is kind of rubbing me the wrong way havent seen it yet been waiting to hear more about it

I'm a fan of Spike as a person and I know alot of people think he overreacts to things but I think dude is usually pretty spot on

I do agree there aint much to make a joke out of slavery with very touchy subject

I did however see someone in this thread say tarintino's approach to a movie about slavery is more realistic than what Spike wouldve done that may be the single most ignorant thing I've read on here in a while

but like someone said before me Spike has prolly seen more racism than most of us could imagine he has a different perspective

True, but Sam Jackson is older than Spike and has worked on a bunch of movies with QT and Spike, so it's not like Spike has experienced the only racism around...he grew up in NYC while Sam is from DC I think. Jamie Foxx is only 10 yrs younger and grew up in Texas, so he's probably seen his fair share as well. Spike just has a very aggressive and somewhat divisive personality which probably effects him getting along with certain studios. Both guys make great movies, but Spike ain't no saint either, he called out Hollywood for being run by "Jews" before too and says Larry Bird is the most overrated player of all time .

but the thing about sam jackson is that hes a ***** for money, who will pretty much do anything for a check. And there's a diff between stating the obvious ( Hollywood is run by jews) and having hatred of jewish people. IDk where spike stands on that

the movie was great..

the scene with the pseudo kkk having trouble with their bag masks had damn near the whole theater in tears.

That scene in the table talking about Eskimo joe. Was too funny!

"You know how they come up with their names, he was probably cold one day"

lol @ people insinuating to be in this movie you have to be a sellout in some way. I guess Jamie Fox, Sam Jackson, and the long list of black people involved in this are all sell outs for money. Foolishness.

And Spike Lee says and does a lot of things that if roles were switched he would be considered a racist. He's just living vicariously through this notion that black people can't be racist. He isn't a Saint, he has prejudices.

I think one of the most overlooked scenes in this movie was Sam & Leo making Django see his wife's tattered back at the dinner table. I could be looking to deep into it but I thought that was such a great summary of America. Not wanting to look back. Not wanting to look at our past right in the eye and face it. Slavery is our history. Slavery is ugly. Our country wasn't built on great "Christian" traditions like we are taught. These are the backs that built America. That whole scene was disturbing and brillant.

That is really good insight.

The irony is, Spike is so disgusted and offended, but what films of the last decade is that natural heir to being taught in universities like Do The Right Thing was?

I dont think SLJ is a sellout for being in this movie. But its kinda known that he wont say no to a check.

I know, but bringing it up in their thread has certain connotations. People are bringing it to imply that is why he did this movie. He is a known fan of QTs work and didn't half-mass his role.

BDW SLJ isn't exactly Daniel Day Lewis, he doesn't care but that doesn't mean he hasn't been in some great movies and played great roles.

Fact, and mainly the amazing ones are coincidentally directed by QT.

I've been waiting for a movie like this... It's sad a white man came up with it first and did something very groundbreaking to me.....being black all my life I always wondered why we never fought back(yes the nat turner story was one in a million) but when Leo asked"why the never killed us" mad me clap so hard.... Slavery to me was a joke... The civil rights movement was a joke.... I just don't understand as black people why we never stood up and fought back instead of taking this **** day in and day out.... It makes me so angry that we don't fight for ourselves... Yes slavery was horrific but did it have to be... We are stronger, faster, more intelligent then any race... We created so many technological advances that help this community but we still don't fight back.... We fight for Jordan's and not education.... We fight for Gucci but not shelter... It seems like we are the walking dead in America .... I just wish we took the Malcolm x approach( before he went soft).. This might be flame for racism I don't care my people are dying and we stay complaining(Samuel l Jackson is not a sellout in any since because there are still the house n*gga mentality in our community and spoke lee is definately one of them)I respect spike to the highest power and grew up on him but this little..... Always on that bum, crab in the bucket sh*t, he has great mind and eye for cinema but he says it disrespects his ancestor so what about Trindad James, waka Flocka, Gucci mane, Rick Ross, he even made bamboozled which is one of my favorite movies but he doesn't call them out but as soon as a white dude says N*gger 100 times, it's a problem.... Ice cube said that within a minute in a lol Jon song were is the outrage and even if outraged black folks are worrying about the wrong damn things.... This movie was told the way slavery should have went..... We should have fought back instead of just being scared of men that are down right the most barbaric mofos walking the face of the planet but when will we stand up and create stories of strength/revenge instead of ******** like roots...

In line right now to check this out in 45 minutes.

All showings are selling out at my local Edwards Cinemas today.

Hoping this lives up to the hype since for me Inglorious Bastards was a let down.

Why slaves (no not just black slaves, there are many other groups that have been slaves throughout history), don't fight back has to do with.

1. Fear-To my knowledge the slaves didn't have many guns. Those harsh public punishments were negative reinforcement for insubordination. That's like asking why the Jews didn't all just revolt in the concentration camps.

2. Psychological abuse and dehumanization of African people. The slaves were given bibles to keep them complacent and obedient, stripped of theri identity/ names and told from birth they were nothing more than animals. With each generation, people just grew up looking at this as their reality, I'm sure the first wave of slaves had it worse because they still remembered where they came from.

Some did fight back and rebel but Europeans systematically created an atmosphere that deterred disobedience, has nothing to do with those 3 fossas in our skulls.

If all the slaves had revolted they would've lost, you understand that right?
I understand how your feeling but the end-game of a slave revolt is a brutal death.
Nat Turner's revolt was perhaps the most successful, and even he was hung and castrated.

^ LMAO , son randomly threw that in the middle like he was on a roll

MLB brings scout's and makes training camps and academy's in the dominican republic for kids

I think that was my favorite scene. Really showed how ignorant people were back then. It wasnt just being prejudiced, or racial overtones and stereotypes...it was pretty much fact, scientifically proven that blacks were subhuman, created solely to make the white man's life easier. Imagine growing up in that environment...I actually imagined myself being white in that environment, like would I own slaves and be just as brutal? Most of us would say no, but there's no way to know for sure.

Yep, I sometimes put myself in the shoes of the oppressor. It's easy for us to sit here and call them evil but if you don't believe someone is human it is easy to mistreat them. Human beings treat each other like crap to begin with but if you convince yourself someone is not worthy of human dignity inhumane acts become as easy as drinking water.

BDW house slaves were living entirely too good. :smh: That one chick was eating lobster and drinking crystal and sh...Was she like the female head house slave?

Yeah...it was like she passed for white to him, so she acted like she wasn't a part of any of that. Out of sight, out of mind to her. :smh:

Oh, and the soundtrack was awesome.
You can listen to it all here.

I know I lost it when a certain artist starting blasting in the theater. :nerd:
