Official Alamo Bowl (PSU vs TAMU) Thread...Terrible Comment by Yell Leader about JoePa inside...

The game starts at 7 PM on the 29th. I'm heading down there tomorrow morning, hopefully it'll be fun (it's my first bowl game to attend...).

Apparently one of the yell "leaders" thought it would be funny to say something about how old JoePa is...

SAN ANTONIO, Texas -- Texas A&M officials have apologized to Penn State administrators for a student leader's references to needing a "casket" for coach Joe Paterno.

One A&M yell leader, during a pep rally Thursday night, told the crowd that Paterno was "on his death bed" and "someone needs to find him a casket." The remarks drew boos from the crowd.

Paterno turned 81 last week. Penn State faces A&M on Saturday night in the Valero Alamo Bowl.

A&M team spokesman Alan Cannon said Friday he did not know the name of the yell leader, though the student has been sent home.

The yell leaders -- similar to cheerleaders -- are A&M's official spirit organization and lead fans' cheers during games and other school events. They are elected by the student body.

Some A&M and Penn State fans said the student's remarks were offensive and inappropriate.

Paterno, at a news conference Friday at the Alamodome, said he was backstage with Aggies interim coach Gary Darnell when the comments were made, but did not hear them.

"I think everybody has to take things with a grain of salt," Paterno said. "Some young guy went up there, trying to be funny. Maybe he's accurate, I don't know."

Texas A&M's interim president, Eddie Davis, and athletic director Bill Byrne later apologized to their Penn State counterparts.

"I honestly didn't hear it, and I don't particularly care about it," Paterno said Friday. "Sticks and stones will break your bones but names will never hurt you."

Paterno, a 42-year head-coaching veteran, is about to enter the last year of a four-year contract that expires following the 2008 season.

I guess the guy doesn't know much about JoePa. Possibly one of the greatest icons in all of college football history...his mere existance isbetter than our football program's history.

Luckily the +*+%%!+ got sent home. Hopefully he never gets to represent A&M at another sporting event.

You gotta love JoePa's response to it though.

But back to the game...I'll be cheering for my Aggies, but I don't really see us winning this game. Last time Darnell was Interim Coach for a bowlgame, he got blown out. Last time we played Penn State in a bowl game, we got blown out. Doesn't really look good for us...

and im just saying, thats my opinion on it. im not trying to get an uproar out of the members. i just think its a pretty tasteless "joke" to make,especially when its out in the middle of the riverwalk. theres no need for that. im used to hearing a bunch of stupid %$%@ from my fellow aggies though. ivenoticed that we a lot of times seem to preach one thing and practice another.

seriously? it's one thing to have some trash talkduring a pep rally, but they crossed the line. you can't do that.

You gotta love JoePa's response to it though.

remember earlier this year when JoePa got into some argument with a lady on PSU's campus and some guy yelled at him "hey that's mywife!" and JoePa said "that's your problem."

o, gotcha. im not sure if it really deserves its own article either, but when i read it i just shook my head at the ignorance. i havent ever read anyoneelse's opinion on something similar to that on here, so i figured id include it just to see what others thought.

i guess i really shouldnt expect any different from our yell leaders though. before the fresno state game at yell practice, they were talking about how we weregonna give the bulldogs the "mike vick" treatment

needless to say, i didnt go to another yell practice after that.

haha i cant stand any of em. theyre all so damn corny. i honestly think that theyre all secretly gay together. i think this fletcher dude is the same guy thatwas cracking the mike vick jokes before the fresno state games.

the girls eat that %@%$ up. they love that crap. every girl i know thinks that all of the yell leaders are like the greatest thing since sliced bread

nowthe dance team at the basketball games...i can enjoy that.

one of my best friends is gonna try to be a yell leader in a couple of years though, so i really probably shouldnt hate too much.

the only time people really yell is when theyre in the quad. and the only people that yell are the members of the corps of cadets. so unless you were drivingyour car through the quad, nobody was yelling at your car. after the first month of school, i didnt even know people were yelling at all. its not as bad as youseem to think it is.

haha yea, there really is no buzz around this game, and rightfully so. its not that big of a game at all. the only reason im excited about it is because imleaving to go to it in about 15 minutes.

I just have a bad feeling about Morelli in the big game. He's been an under achiever (and somewhat of a disappointment) his entire career, but I thinktonight's game will really determine how people remember him at Penn State. Unfortunately, I just don't think he is going to have a good night againstA&M's defense.
