"This A+ list celebrity/singer says he will not be seeing this certain reality star anytime soon and will not be present for a very important life event. He also has instructed those around him to not mention her name."

Welp

Just wanted to chime in on the recent ye news.

This guy is a damn icon. A superstar in many aspects of entertainment. Its amazing how we get to witness his evolution as an artist and as a human. Seeing where he is now, i realize now how much of a catalyst that VMA moment was. That was the moment that changed his music. The backlash he received from america really lit this current flame of "realized oppression" ( i dont even know what to call it, but like this rebel ye we are seeing)

In terms of marketing, i love it. he knows how the hype machine works and is a master of working it. projections onto the streets? You kidding me? thats innovative as hell. sometimes i wonder if he really sits down and thinks about these concepts or if he just does it, either way it works. You got people calling out of work to possibly see a projection on the side of a building.

Sometimes i dont agree with what kanye says or does but i will forever have respect for the man as an artist and having the cojones to do what he wants.

^^ nah brah. Kanye stan here, get with it or get lost. Yeezus all through your body.

But if u dont see how he consistently tries to evolve his craft and the genre, then youre being ignorant. Progression is all you can ask for in an artist. If that sounds like im slurping then so be it .

Well I drove down here and missed the game for no reason.... Trolled by KanYe smh
I got trolled by a faulty location tbh. Left my spot in the snl line and raced downtown manhattan to NYU to find out there was nothing there lol.

Drive to the soho and see virgil, big sean, young chop, hudmo, IBN and some others.

Catch it at soho after being the first ones there and waiting for about an hour delay.

Go back up to check in on the line. Run back downtown at 2am to the last spot at prada soho to see Mike Dean and hang out there until 3 and then find out that they weren't going to do it again :frown:

So 1/3 that night. Then got into snl so it was all good  great performance.

my only issue, and one i'm surprised hasn't been mentioned, is that kanye refers to us as "all you blacks" instead of "us" as if he's not 1) black and 2) materialistic.

he's being too hypocritical (almost satirical) by perpetuating that life for 10 years, then talking down on blacks without including himself.

i appreciate that he's starting the conversation but there's a lack of consistency between his message and his actions that keeps me from taking this too seriously.

He really is so far from what goes on in the black community it's borderline a slap in the face .He really thinks he is saying something profound when other rappers and black intellectuals been combating this. How you the ultimate example of excess and ignorance and refer to all of us as new slaves like you aren't the champion of excess and didn't make wtt and cut up a maybach or something in the Otis video .

Yeah bruh, the song went way over your head

lol, i understand the song very clearly, and i appreciate the value of third person narratives in hip-hop, but my point still stands.

i'm not sure if the two who rebutted me are black, but if not, i can understand why this isn't a valid concern for you.

ye is addressing materialism within the black community during the first verse:

"what you want? a bentley? fur coat? a diamond chain?

all you blacks want all the same things,

used to be ******, now everybody playing,

spending everything on alexander wang."

third person is when you speak of yourself, outside of yourself. he's not speaking of himself here... just other blacks.

there are no mentions of his own impulsive acts of materialism on here, as there were on "all falls down," which is why imo the latter is the more relatable song.

it would've been more effective and personable for him to say "all us blacks want all the same things" because no one man is above the vanity.

he had no problem injecting himself into the second verse, so third person narrative is clearly not the case here.

for the record, i knew of these lyrics and the song months ago and had a problem with it then, too. i just don't appreciate being talked down to me by someone who shares the same weaknesses. it's all in the delivery.

I'm black. That shoulda been obvious since I addressed as "bruh".

When he says "all you blacks want the same thing" He's talking as a white person that looks down on blacks.

He says repeatedly that "We the new slaves" so how is not including himself?

you never know with the web, man... they adopt our slang to fit in out here. it's rough.

and after reading the lyrics, where the "fur coat..." part seems to be spoken from the same pov of the "come here, plz buy more" i understand it.

Agreed. At that point in the song the lyrics shift from the perspective of a white person looking down on the black community indeed.
