This shouldn't be a revelation to anyone though.
When Late Registration dropped I said on here "Kanye West isn't the most talented person in music, but what he's REALLY good at is recognizing talent in other people and attaching himself to them. I said that because of his involving Jon Brion (who was extra hot that summer because of Fiona Apple's "Extraordinary Machine" that he produced.)
People I think know that Kanye isn't the greatest at anything. But he's as good as anyone at recognizing what's hot and adapting to it.
THAT is a talent worth admiring. If it wasn't hundreds of other artists wouldn't be completely irrelevant by the time their sophomore albums roll around.

I pretty much agree with everything you said, but the way some people tell it, Kanye IS the trendsetter/fashion icon etc.
I don't see it personally. But I can tell you that people on Niketalk have certainly expressed that.

Thank God someone in here is thinking clearly. The majority of that interview was ridiculous.
So you guys actually believe these dudes when they say **** like this?
You believe him when he says he doesn't want to be on the radio because he doesn't like what he hears? He wasn't talking that **** when "Mercy" or "Clique" or "Paris" were all over the radio. And they still are.
You believe him when he says "I have a new strategy, it's called no strategy"? I guess those videos just wound up on the sides of buildings all over the world by accident.
What's even more ironic is that I bet that's what this all is.....strategy. Denounce everything you once embraced. Tell people you're not a "celebrity". Become this artistic martyr.

don't you work in the industry??? what makes you surprised at the fact that he's using strategy??? all of a sudden now every artist just goes out & puts a record out & that's it?
people complain about **** being stale & when someone finally comes along and changes **** up it's "corny". ANYONE could have used this marketing campaign, and if someone besides 'Ye did it i guarantee everyone would be praising it saying how genius it is.
he's 36 years old with a kid on the way. maybe he really doesn't ******g like his old ****. from 21 to 24 i've gotten a completely different mindset on life, i can only imagine what another 12 years would do.

Kanye hires producers, musicians, engineers, a&r's rappers, song writers, ghost writers, ghost producers, and super marketing head, to make albums. I know dude albums be costing in the millions at this point, i just wanna see what happens when this drops because if it tanks critically more than popularity, i can see Def Jam parting ways and letting someone else take the case. I mean NO promo, not a official leak 5 days out, which means this joint wont be pressed till this weekend, and this dude is lokey a genius. That whole create your own cover, is just a way for him to hold out until the last minute so
that the manufacturing company can easily press the million plus copies, all it is, is a blank disc. The d_ thing might not even have a back cover, straight cd burner style
now if he smart he is doing this to see if he can go fully independent and just do a manufacturing deal, dont think these big wig white heads arent hoping this joint tanks so they can tell him "see kanye you need us" You need NBA finals promo, you need radio BDS, you need the machine, your not that big, which in reality he is not. How can you confirm a track list when no track list were given. You can only confirm tracks you've heard. Like I said. No official track list from def jam or kanye has been released
