OFFICIAL Ye fka "kanYe West" x G.O.O.D. Music Thread - ¥$ (AKA YE X TY DOLLA SIGN) - VULTURES (NOW AVAILABLE WOWWWW)

We went from "one of the best" to "Top 20" to now "Top 40".  Tell you what, why don't we just say Kanye West has one of the best discographies in the Top 500.  That way some of the more "radical" Kanye West fans have enough room and leverage to operate.  I think Top 500 should do it.

bruh, you're going blind from the sodium.

ease off the pedal.

Just cause i said he could have a top 40 discography and still have one of the best, doesn't mean he's not top 20.

It just means that your opinion doesn't outweigh an objective view of his place in the game.

Just calm down. Breath. You're getting real hype like Kanye in that interview was. And you're making less sense than Kanye's lame twitter rant.

Just cause you don't think he's one of the best to do it, doesn't mean he's not one of the best to do it.

Kanye does have a elite body of work and one of the best currently in music but lets not get carried away
ohwell.gif

BIG had two albums... Dre had two albums... I get that the rest is opinion, but how can a person with 2 critically acclaimed albums have a more impressive discography than a person with 7 of them?

Just from an objective standpoint, how does that make any sense?

don't play yourself deuce.

Name 20 rappers/non-hip-hop bands currently active with more celebrated discographies.

We went from "one of the best" to Top 20 now??  If someone were to say to you "one of the best" wouldn't that mean or suggest Top 3  or Top 5 at least, as in debatable.

Not even in order, and I threw in some more just for good measure...........

Everything you just said is trolling.  So I'll rest my case here, and won't bother to engage you on this point again after this:

Calling someone Top 20 active musicians RIGHT NOW means they are one of the best.  You're out of your mind if you think there's any rapper EVER with a top 5 discography when all music genres are considered.  Kanye and Jay-Z are as close as it gets; period.

I'm not gonna pay any attention to any top discographies lists you compile that have Nas, Common, Ice Cube, The Roots, Rakim, or Scarface on them.  I'm sorry.

Factor in that arguably Common's best album ever was almost entirely a product of Kanye West, Jay's best work since TBA was a result of Kanye pushing him, and that 2/3 of Tupac's discography is posthumous and I'm gonna have to just disregard everything you said.

Well...you probably should pay attention

I get that, but ten what's to stop someone from saying Kendrick has a top 5 discography if there's no consideration for number of albums and consistency?

He made some good points throughout the interview, but his thoughts are kind of all over the place. I understand him wanting to make the world better but outside of music what is he doing to make the world better? A lot of what he is saying just sounds like he's pissed that it hasn't been easy to get into the fashion and creative world. He mentions companies not wanting to work with him because he's black, which I don't think is the case at all. It is clear that there aren't a lot of blacks in higher up positions at these creative companies but I feel as though companies don't want to work with kanye because he's kanye. If things go south he will publicly bash a company, or at least that's what they believe.

Some of my main takeways:
- Kanye doesn't give a **** about the music anymore. All dude was talking about was fashion. Which to me is why Yeezus sounds the way it does, it's like a soundtrack for cutting edge fashion.

- His argument about Versace and designers like that is that we all slaves to them and that they should lower the price and that when someone walks in with a nicer brand then us we immediately feel like ****. That is an insane assumption that our self worth should be determined by what others are wearing. If he really wants to break that slave mentality then he should be preaching being comfortable with what you have and what you wear. Blacks have always had that slave mentality of keeping up with the joneses and copping new louis bags. If he really wanted to crack the pavement he would shun this. You want to say **** the corporations, then don't strive to be like them.

- He's wrong on so many accounts. What did steve jobs do to that changed the internet and made it amazing. Kanye credits dude with way too much, just like he credits himself with way too much. As black skinhead plays he mentions the line about "**** your corporations" and says it's from black skinhead, when it's actually from New Slaves. How does the man not know where his only lyrics come from. Once again he doesn't care about the music anymore.

- You can tell that he does want to change things, but it's also evident that he has no idea how to actually change things and neither does anyone in his camp.

I love Kanye's music, and I love his passion, but his mind is all over the place he needs some actual focus.

1) I'm wondering why people continue to say he's only helped in music creating great music IS HELPING THE WORLD. Not just him but any artist who puts out great quality music and performances is helping the world. It helps people see things from another side of human perspective, It makes people think and challenge societies views, it makes people emotional, it inspires people to create better or create more. so what exactly about Music/art is considered not helping the world. If your song can make even one person feel differently about their circumstances or even spark an idea or determination in you then you have effectively changed the world.... i'm so tired of this argument, i don't think people realize just how much music effects people.

2) I don't think he's grown tired of music, i think he's grown tired of making HIS own music as rapper Kanye West. He feels like he's reached a level where he has to do more than music to satisfy him. He explained why Yeezus was what it was like it or hate it it forced you to have an opinion and open up a discussion. Yeezus is unlike anything heard in hiphop it's like NOTHING played on the radio and the fact that he's as big of an artist as he is plays a part in that.

3) The whole point that he made in part one of the interview is WHY IS THERE NO YOUNG BLACK MEN IN THOSE INDUSTRIES... these huge corporations are now directly tailoring and marketing to a demographic that he sways by throwing on one outfit and for some reason his ideas won't work. By watching this interview you could tell that complacency is something that he hates, in all these other industries complacency will take place if the same kind of people are routinely hired. not even by race but more of people having to be from a certain background in order to have there ideas respected even if they happen to be great ideas.

4) In regards to your response on self worth you are kidding me if you as an american citizen feel as if material possessions in general don't play a huge part in perception and self worth. He's already advocated that self worth is important (think All Falls down) that's one song or idea isn't going to work when your entire day is spent being force fed products. Hell the American dream is pretty much Buy this, buy that, buy that or you haven't accomplished being an American. I'm sure we would love if material things didn't play a part in society but they play a HUGE role in every race and community on earth from black to white, rich to poor.

I'm wondering why people continue to say he's only helped in music creating great music IS HELPING THE WORLD. Not just him but any artist who puts out great quality music and performances is helping the world.

Not to get at you personally but this isn't even about Ye.... this is about music as a whole how is releasing good music not helping the world?

Music in general progresses culture and art how does that not help the world

Look man you have been on NT for as long if not longer than me you KNOW that debates on who's music is better isn't going to get anywhere but illogical comments and petty arguments...

That Aventador... lawd lawd lawd

Ye deserves a shot with the fashion, but he's going about it all wrong. Go holla at a venture capitalist or some **** and get backing from people that really **** with you. Go to Asia build relationships over there with people who can actually manufacture your ideas. It's 2013 no need for approval from the old guard, cause if he thought getting approval from Cam was tough... smh those euros ain't gonna give him ****

Kanye albums have no replay value...

I'm on the other side of the fence in this discussion, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here. Just because the guy is wilding out right now, lets not forget what he's done in the past. He does have strong replay value.

Dudes can't even lie to themselves right, SMH.
right.  why don't you respond to the rest of that post? let's talk about people lying to themselves.

rank your top 5 ice cube, rakim, or scarface albums in order.  take your pick whose.  and again, dont consult google.

we'll wait.
