OFFICIAL Ye fka "kanYe West" x G.O.O.D. Music Thread - ¥$ (AKA YE X TY DOLLA SIGN) - VULTURES (NOW AVAILABLE WOWWWW)

This thread has turned into a weekend in the Southside of Chi-raq. My goodness...

Ye' isn't the biggest voice in media, I would give that to... Well damn I can't think of anyone else besides Ye'. Forget what I said, he is the biggest voice in media. The man preaches the damn truth time and time again. He's articulate and can speak with detailed proof and reason within his statements. Discography wise Ye' is at the tippy-top with the greats.

Bless your heart.

I don't evne know what the argument is in here anymore? you can't say that kanye west hasn't impacted Hiphop culture PERIOD. You look back on this past decade 10-20 years from now his name will be amongst the ones discussed.

Is he a revolutionary on the scale of a Martin, Malcolm, Seale absolutely not, but it's stupid on your part to claim that this person doesn't have an impact on other cultures because he isn't a political revolutionary.

Artistically he is trying to start a revolution in the hierarchy of a fashion world and change the way Young black people are treated and viewed, he doesn't like the current system/he is trying to change the current system.

He does an interview mainly focused on this point, mainly focused on telling people to follow there dreams, put your life into anything you really love, highlights the discrepancy between the average person and those really in charge.... All interesting topics that can be discussed and help people create a better awareness of what's going on....... instead people are talking outrageous quotes, focusing on him thinking highly of himself.

The problem isn't the criticism, he's Kanye everything he's done since CD has been meant with CRAZY criticism/love, the problem is the dismissing of true conversations/thoughts in order to focus on minor ****.

Since i'm not gonna get in on an opinion based argument (the discography) i'll answer this.

What are these smaller businesses that you speak of? especially in regards to high fashion... kanye isn't trying to start a boutique or a ******g streetwear company he legitimately wants to start a corporate empire similar to what an LV, Gucci, Versace etc etc has started. In order to do that you need backing from really wealthy people in that industry.

Not only to make the clothes, you have to pay to promote the clothes, fashion shows, publications, storefronts, hiring the correct design teams etc etc. I don't know if you are even into fashion like that but in order to make it to the status that those before mentioned brands have it's gonna take a whole lot more than that 50 million that Ye has.

That's like asking why doesn't Multi millionaire Jay start his own distribution company, why doesn't Millionaire MJ start his own league, these industries are set up in a fashion where no matter where you go the heads of that industry are Almost exclusively older Europeans with BILLIONS of dollars and unlimited pull in said industry. It takes more than just a few ideas and laughable money (in there eyes) to completely change a system that has been building for 50+ years.
Kanye more than likely has over 50 million dollars if not more brands like Visvim a respected brand haven't scratched close to that amount .Kanye asking these rich white Europeans to work or give him funding when you got dudes in Japan putting in massive work all by trial and error and sitting down saying how can I make the highest quality and dopest stuff I can make that last a lifetime. Even Ronnie Fieg has his own brand after doing asics collaborations he is now creating his own apparell and what not that flys off the shelves in a day . Most pubs and storefronts would take Kanye interviews and products in a heartbeat sounds like BS why he can't do it

If you don't understand the difference between trying start a company like visvim or Ronnie Fieg and starting a worldwide corporation in the realm of LV or Gucci :smh:. Hell his own homies are doing things of that nature he is thinking way beyond those small scale companies.

and in business in general its usually VERY RARE for someone who's already rich to use All of their capital to start a venture of that magnitude.

The case has been made that he wants the acceptance of those Bigger fashion brands... i don't think it's about that at all, it's the sameway people react whenever Jay puts himself in a conversation with one of those white billionaires. They don't need acceptance from them but society won't give them recognition unless those same huge conglomerates give them recognition.

The whole point of new slaves isn't that he hates corporations as a whole he hates the current system of the corporations and how power is relegated and controlled. you only crack systems like that by working from within.

There's lots of people dealing with the same stuff Kanye's dealing with, but since they're not famous no one is criticizing them, but ultimately this is their goal.

Word to all the 5 percenters my dad put me onto who are high powered brokers at top level firms.

He an idiot if he thinks he can just start big he has to create a true unique product by starting small steve jobs was building computers by hand at one point .If he doesn't start small or at a reasonable level he will fail. He sounds like an overgrown five year old talking about what he wants to be instead of person who has thought the exact steps and the exact ways in which to achieve his goals .

well in the interview he says he's been developing a plan for 10 years.... stopped doing music to move to Paris and study the proper ways, and has created relationships with several designers over the years i think this is a lil more than him just jumping out of bed and saying "eh i feel like doing clothes today"

and to knowledge thanks for the recommendation i'll try and check it out this stuff always interest me.

Just read the synopsis and i also think that many of the head players in Hip Hop are atleast trying to position themselves in order to really change things.

Hence the last line on Jay's Grammy Family freestyle

"Operation takeover corporate, makeover office, then take over all of it"

On WTT "What up to Will, what up to O, that ain't enough we gonna need a million more"

He's stated a big draw of doing roc nations management is to help athletes with money management and keep them prospering for years. He wants enough like minded people in true position to really start influencing the culture.

If you watch behind the scenes there's def a revolution coming. Yeezus was the start of it. Magna Carta. The signing of Durant. Sucks it has to be covert, but you've seen what happened to those that were overt.

I'm weary to using the word revolution because lord knows that's going to spark a whole page of irrelevant arguments :smh:

but i am willing to admit that there is a steady plan in mind and focus on reshaping the image of what a young black man in america should be and more importantly reshaping how highly we think of ourselves.

Jay calling himself a god, Ye calling himself a god, Cats like Melo & Bron building strong relationships with others over the past few years without a doubt there has been heavy change

I feel you man. I don't like bringing it up cause there's a lot of personal and esoteric implications that I have behind my opinions. Even if I'm wrong, I'm just glad to see people trying to do stuff for the culture.

We all must have VASTLY different definitions of "cultural leader"

Or of "leader". Because doing what for the most part Pharrell did before you, which NO ONE in here has disagreed with, doesn't make you a leader...

In fact.....

If you said "trendsetter" and left it at that, you probably wouldn't even get much argument from me.

Look at the difference between the way Jay conducts interviews and the way Kanye does. And you'll see some of the characteristics that define a leader.
And once again, it all comes down to clothes.....

You have way to much hate in your heart, it's blinding you. A "leader" isn't about doing it first. It's about making a impact. Civil rights movement had plenty of leaders whom all were pushing the same thing, and many in the same way. It doesn't matter who did it first they were all leaders, not that this is as serious an issue but what your saying is far from fact despite how hard your going. He is not just a trendsetter, cause unlike the jersey era and all that other nonsense you speaking on his effect went way beyond clothes. Pharrell was around for how long? Backpack rap was around for how long? All these things he didn't invent were a long for quite some time. He's who changed the game. Not just sonically cause Pharrell did that, not just clotihing wise cause plenty did that as well. He took things to a level pharrell didn't reach, and no other artist who did it before him took it either. He changed the youth, despite what's going on in his city. He made that sub-genre, the main stream. The positivity that those artist brought to the game, he broke through to the masses. So he is a cultural leader, he made it acceptable to not be a thug. He made it so kids can be positive, and not be different. There's certain aspects you just can't speak on, but anyone in touch with the youth sees the cultural effect. Of course that's not in all areas, because as I said his city hasn't changed much. But interacting with children across the states, seeing this younger generation day in and day out, the difference between now and less then a decade ago is insane. **** all the terrible clothing choices, the not so great music, and the other aspects the older crowd has good reason to disagree with. That change of mentality is something that will last a lifetime, and will effect generations from here on out. That was quite a rant, but to try to downplay that is ridiculous, to allow your opinion to overshadow that is insane.

Wtf!!!

This is just another sad example of a Kanye West fan with no rational sense....

I don't know where this came from, so I just copied it to hit a few points.....

Pharrell.....he's still around. You didn't notice?

Backpack rap, still around. Just cause dude wore a backpack doesn't mean he ever really made "backpack rap" by the way. "Touch The Sky" is no backpack rap record.

Sonically Pharrell did that. Clothing wise plenty did as well. So...what exactly am I giving him credit for?

Dog, are you joking with the "level Pharrell didn't reach"? What level is that

So he changed the youth....but not in his own city? Where then? I live in NY. I see maybe 10% of kids "changed" by Kanye. Kanye wears Foams?

So that last line....again, he's changed so much...except his OWN city. Brilliant. That alone speaks volumes yet you type **** like that out without realizing the ridiculousness of your words.

Because if you "look at specifics", which someone accused me of doing like it's a bad thing, you can't actually qualify or quantify any of this. De La Soul made it cool to not be a thug once. Beastie Boys. Q Tip. Fresh Prince  Those artists have ALWAYS existed. You don't look at them as "cultural leaders". Nor should you. Look at them as great artists/musicians.

Nothing more. Same way you should look at Kanye. But some of you want him to be much more than he really is.

Public Enemy may have been the only "cultural leaders" from that era. Look at the difference between their content and Kanye West's. Look at how many people wore Black Medallions because of them. Their pro-Black, pro-education message was CLEAR, Maybe THAT'S part of the reason why his hometown is still a mess. Because he has no such clarity in his message.

Now I said Jay is a cultural leader because of what he's accomplished outside of music. The Samsung deal. The Made In America shows. The Budweiser campaign back in the day. The S. Carter Reeboks. Clothing line. One of the first rappers to really build a label and turn that info a business (management etc) that still exists to this day.

If there is a leader who's accomplishments you should follow, that's the guy I'm checking for.

It's crazy to me that some of you are looking at musicians who pretty much just do music or ball players, with little to no message that isn't self serving, as the people reshaping Black (or ethnic) identity in America. Something I am literally a product of. Since before any rappers I can remember.

Not the access to better education. Not that leading to better jobs. Not the cultural changes that have been happening for decades now. No one's even mentioned Puffy, who from a business standpoint has done a lot of what Jay did, and suited up well and wore designer ****. Because you don't like Puffy. But y'all LOVE Kanye!

The fact that you put so much belief in a musician achieving CULTURAL, not PERSONAL (as in he effected you) change and leadership is laughable. At least this particular musician.

So amongst the reasons you don't credit Kanye West with being a leader in hiphop culture.... you chose he doesn't have the kids wearing foams, he wasn't the one and only person to ever go against the thug culture in rap, and kids are being shot in his hometown..... for someone who's spent a lot of time on this earth you sure try to prove your points in the ways of a teenager

Again, sadly, you've missed the point entirely. If you're going to claim someone as a leader, to the point of widespread influence, you need to show me the influence and leadership. He's a musician. Nothing more.

You can't just say "he's a leader" and have me believe it. That may be enough for some of you. Because it suits your belief system. But I'm not a simpleton.

If you're not leading or influencing your hometown. If so many of you want to harp on fashion (insert demasculanization argument here ) yet when I look around me I see LIMITED influence of his "fashion" in the grand scheme of things. A small percentage.

If he is just going where plenty of others have gone before, then why am I holding him in such high regard? I'm not. Nor are 95% of the people I know. And we're all part of the same culture.

None of you give me legit answers. You just keep saying "he's a leader". And it's like maybe 5-10 of you saying so.

But again, "looking at specifics" is frowned upon by you. Good luck with that  Because you have none. Again, your words say so much about how warped your mentalities are.

You're talking about Lebron and Melo as well? What have they done? Lebron has actually been challenged for how little of a leader he is. MJ was the same. And they don't have to be. But then call them such.

My points were very well laid out. You picked and chose your spots and ignored what you have no legit response to as we tend to.

If I'm trying to prove my points "in the ways of a teenager" to you, that's fine. I don't really hold you, your opinions or your thoughts in high regard. You'd probably say the same of me. I'm certainly not going to lose sleep over it. All you have is "hater" and "teenager" but nothing of substance. I haven't even used the term "stan" in any of these replies.

The irony. Straight backwards

Kanye is that dude, man.

He's saying what no "black" celebrity has said....ever.

It's shame his message gets lost in his foolish actions then. And many would say actions speak louder than words.

And even his words can be over the top. His OWN perception of his status in "media" and his "I am Pac" ********.

I didn't even watch one full portion of the interview. Once he loses me, I'm done. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Again, words mean but so much. I'll hole "black" celebrities like Muhammad Ali over that man any day.

Lol wut. Dude you sound ******ed. You didn't hit any points.I didn't say Pharrell or backpack rap weren't around, I'm saying he's the one who changed the mentality of this generation, not them. They all were different then the mainstream gangster rap that was going on for so long he was the breakthrough. His city has a extremely strong gang culture, so how is that ridiculous or how does that take away from his impact because chicago is still going ham? All those artist did make it somewhat cool to not be thugs, but they didn't shift hip hop to go that route. I'm not even a huge Ye fan, and I'm positive he didn't have this impact purposely. Your focusing on foams, Puffy from a business standpoint is a leader, as is jay. But not everyone want's to do what their doing, and Kanye came along a bit late to effect me personally. But I was in High School when he came out and saw the shift, and have been working with children ever since and see that the impact has lasted. I'm not speaking out of love for a grown man I never met, but your speaking out of hate. Gangster music is now a sub genre, trap music although it still get's heavy play is just a small lane now. His message was to be yourself, and it was heard louder than anyone around him.

NWA were just musicians, did they not have widespread influence? Did Ye have to come out sporting a white sox hat and all the kids follow for you to recognize his impact? NWA didn't just effect how kids dressed, they effected the mentality of the youth. Connect the dots

You asked "Pharrell was around for how long" right? The answer is before Kanye up until the present.

You asked "backpack rap was around for how long" right? The answer is it's still around.

What was the point of your questions then? Seemed to me that you were implying that there was some sort of expiration date to both that left a void that you believe Kanye filled.

How can he be the one who changed the mentality of this generation when many of us in here, even the people I'm debating with, agreed that Pharrell did a lot of this before Kanye?

Are you familiar with the name "Skateboard P"? What do you see Wayne riding now? Wayne got fans?

THAT is tangible influence. That's the guy that showed everyone how to be himself. Not the dude slurping out of a Henny bottle at an awards show on Front Street.

I don't expect him to change Chicago. I don't expect my musicians to change much. I don't view them as cultural leaders.

But if you're going to claim them as such, they could start by addressing what's happening at HOME.

This is legit going nowhere. You have your perceptions. I have mine. I get paid to argue for a living. Well at that. So it's been a fun spar.

I'll come back in here when there's something about Kanye West actually worth talking about. Hope it's not a twitter rant.

By the way, using a term like "******ed" is a good way to void any attempts you were making to sound intelligent. at y'all resorting to name calling.

Right. And their influence was CLEARLY visible. In both good ways and bad.

And do I call them cultural leaders? Nope.

Has anyone, EVER, suggested such a thing? Nope.

Did I ever say musicians weren't "influential"? Nope.

Which is the point my good man.
