OFFICIAL Ye fka "kanYe West" x G.O.O.D. Music Thread - ¥$ (AKA YE X TY DOLLA SIGN) - VULTURES (NOW AVAILABLE WOWWWW)

Crazy that people are using terms like "house" and "EDM" to describe a Kanye West album.

I get his whole "experimentation" steez and all that.

But is incorporating "EDM" into your production even progressive in 2013? He already did that with "Stronger" and even "New Workout Plan".

Every Pop group has been doing that **** for like the last 5 years.
You're right that people have been incorporating EDM/house into popular music for a while now. But with Kanye being the most influential figure in mainstream hip hop, we can now say that the sound has "arrived" in hip hop. Rhythm-driven house music is already popular in the UK and among certain demographics in the US, but it hadn't fully touched hip hop yet. Kanye is introducing that sound to the hip hop masses, to people who would normally listen to artists like Chief Keef. And just like everything else he's done, this will probably lead to people hopping onto that sound.

Son, please don't go there. Because you sound incredibly lost right now.....

I already mentioned how Kanye had played around with EDM ages ago. There is an entire genre of EDM/Hip Hop called Trap.

Certain demographics in the US? EDM is probably the most popular genre in America right now. Look at the charts, turn on the radio, look at the demand for tickets to all the festivals.

Daft Punk already had a #1 album and single. Swedish House Mafia. Calvin Harris. David Guetta. Do these names ring a bell?

So Kanye and people hopping on this after all the Pop groups is some kind of accomplishment to you? Rihanna's done it. Katy Perry's done it.

From an artist that swears he's pushing artistic "boundaries"?

Kanye fans are adorable. They will twist **** around any way they can so that an L doesn't look like an L.

Stop trying to talk about music if you don't even know what's going on with music.

I'm not an avid listener of House/EDM, or however you want to classify it.

But I do listen to alot of Indie acts that adapt that sound, which I think really allowed me to enjoy this album.

Like everyone else, I wish there could have been more songs like Bound, but hey, at least we got 1 throwback joint from Ye'.

College Dropout had people on the soul sounds. Graduation had people on the techno tip. 808s made autotune really take off among rappers. And whether you liked Yeezus or not (his worst album imo), it's a good bet that everyone will be biting off this minimalist, bass-heavy rhythm style now.

You forgot how MBDTF and WTT made everyone think they were on some luxury high fashion **** :smh:
Yep, lol

That's the thing about the true influential artists. Every artist draws from different influences, but an original artist is going to bring outside influences into a different context that they haven't touched yet. Whether you like the music or not, you can always count on them to push the envelope somewhat.

MJ blew up the New Jack Swing movement among mainstream America when he did Dangerous. Prince released some music where he was rapping. Radiohead has done some wild off-the-wall ****. These are the artists that keep music fresh, for better or worse.

 Why are you so irate? It's just music bro, I don't even care that much. If it bothers you that much ignore my post.

I already said multiple times in this thread that I think Yeezus is his worst album and I don't know if it will have that much replay value for me. But I'm a fan of music, I like when artists push boundaries.

I don't see how it's an "L"? What constitutes an L in art/music? Kanye is an artist who is in a position where he has no incentive to prove anything to anyone. Furthermore, he has unlimited resources. Therefore he is in a purely creative space, which is rare among modern artists. I find it interesting to listen to artists who are in that purely creative space (such as Prince, Radiohead, etc), because their music is generally the most intriguing to me personally. Kanye's music interests me, that's all.

It's just music man, I don't understand the need for personal attacks.

people that mostly listen to just hiphop have to be opened minded and willing to let the songs grow on them

you might not like it after 1 play but if you let it play a few more times it can grow on you

at first i didnt like i am a god/on sight but i love the whole album now

Bound 2 is College Dropout-esque Kanye West. The "Ohhhh, we're falling in love" is so damn smooth
pimp.gif

Reminds me of this song for some reason

i though the sample was saying "bound to falling in love"? im not sure but I just listened to the original track by pondersoa twins plus one and it makes sense

Just listened to the album twice, this is a album for people who enjoy music. It's a lot of different sounds that will sound great to see it preformed live. It's real interesting the way he puts it all together. For the hip hop heads that want that lyrical ishhh. You may be upset. For the people with a open mind or know how to read to music enjoy.

This also has to stop. I listen to damn near every genre of music except country.

I be in the R+B Thread, Jazz thread, EDM thread, I know 80's new wave/hair bands better than most, Led Zeppelin to A Perfect Circle/Tool on the rock tip. And I damn sure know a hell of a lot about rap.

So an album isn't great just because a Rap artist tries to be different if the music is lacking.

No matter who the artist is.

MJ blew up the New Jack Swing movement among mainstream America when he did Dangerous.

You've got to stop. New Jack Swing was never THAT mainstream and Guy and Teddy and them had been doing that since the 80's successfully.

Dangerous came out in the 90's.

Please don't compare Prince and Radiohead to this nonsense of an album.

I heard it all...dude said MJ blew up New Jack swing...

That **** was on its way out the door...12 Play killed all that.

The song "New Jack Swing" came out in 89, but Mike put it on in 91.

Like Bobby Brown was running **** the whole time in between. Like Bell Biv Devoe wasn't putting in work in that time.

I'm not irate at all. But if you're going to spout off about music and be so incredibly mistaken.....well, I have a low tolerance for that nonsense.

This is what I'm saying. People want to talk about needing some sort of higher understanding and appreciation of music to like this album.

Talking about "pushing boundaries" when he just jumped on the same sound that's permeated Pop Music for the last 5 years.

OK

My message wasn't directed towards people like you who listen to different types of music. It was to the people who won't give it a chance because they don't like that it doesn't sound like rap.

Whether someone listens to strictly hip-hop or not, why does someone need to let the album grow on them? If they think that it sucks, then it sucks. You ever told someone to watch a movie again or read a book until it grew on them? Just asking ...

It's close minded to think that someone needs to take in something on several occasions to adjust to it if they deem it not good ...

I am a God seriously wants to destroy the speakers in the car.

Right?

I like the song, but I honestly need to crop that last minute of straight screams out. Had my **** bumpin' loud as hell earlier at a stoplight and these fuggin' screams HAD to have people like what the fug is going on in there

Yeah sounds like he's having a nightmare
lets be real kanye is still in love with alexis. i understand playa :frown:
I was thinking the same thing.he keeps on referring to it

In addition to commercial success, the album received critical acclaim from contemporary critics. It has been listed as the most successful album of all time in the new jack swing style.[5]

IDK where you're getting that from but I didn't say that.

Whether you like music or not is a personal opinion. No one is forcing you to like the album bro.

I liked it alright but I doubt I'm gonna play it all that much in the future. I just think it's intriguing to see what music Kanye makes being in the position that he is. Seeing as he's the artist in hip hop music with the greatest spotlight on him, it's always interesting to see how people react to what he puts out. For whatever reason, *insert random artist* making a certain type of music doesn't have the same impact as Kanye West making that same type of music.

Don't care about your "low tolerance" dude I really don't give a ****.

I feel like a lot of people wanted Kanye to play it safe when he's really never done that in his whole career. He's never really made a pure rap / hip-hop album IMO. Even CD was soooo different from everything that was out at that time.
It's not that it's different. Some of these songs just sound like a mess. Lyrically he's not saying anything other than New Slaves. LR didn't sound like anything at that time and it was still a masterpiece, same with Dark Fantasy. It's a nice joint to vibe to but the substance ain't there.
Dudes REALLY gon be pissed now.

yup. beat goes hard...every song that has a potential to GREAT is just is either ruined by his poor lyrics or just something else...Hold my liquor started off like it was finna be epic. cheif keef all off beat lol
mean.gif

Bound is being highly overrated. dude spits some terrible bars on there. the beat is very nice tho...but that song isnt even a top 25 kanye song...dudes just hyping it cuz its on a cd full of garbage
This guy basically said nothing on Bound 2. Could've been much better. He basically said nothing the entire album
laugh.gif

listened to this album a few more times, and i gotta say, i actually really like it...still don't love it and i can't get into I'm In It at all...something about On Site is intriguing...yesterday, i said it was one of the worst Kanye track ever, and i still agree, but i've listened to it about 15 times and I never listen to wack **** like that...i don't "get" the beat...i can't catch it and there's no cohesiveness...the album as a whole is a cluster**** and had no real direction, which is odd for a Kanye album period...also disappointed in the lyrics...Ye's never been a lyricist, more of a witty cat that rhymed, but the lyrics were pretty meh at points...i hate when he tries to fit too many words in a bar, like the Jay/Beyonce line on Blood on The Leaves...mad that the production credits are littered with so many names...doesn't feel like a real Kanye album because Ye barely produced on it...everything about what i've been reading about the album pretty much leads me to the conclusion that Def Jam forced him to make another album now and he did it before he had a kid...that could also explain that rushed Cruel Summer ****...3.5/5

and mutha****as need to stop ******* on 808's

I see why yall like the blood on the leaves beat..its basically ye's version of the down for my ****** beat

My 2 cents ...

I never heard Black Skinhead, but I like this version especially in the whip. The beat goes hard and uplifting for any physical event.

I also like New Slave.

Then I can mess with Blood on the leaves and Bound 2.

Lastly once in a blue moon I can listen to Hold my Liquor and I'm in it - but I can do without.

On Sight - Almost made me not want to hear the rest.

I'm a God - IMHO is equally if not worst ...

Guilt Trip and Send it up - no replay value - as I don't even recall them.

So for ME:

Black Skinhead > New Slave > Blood on the leaves =/= Bound 2

Everything else I can do with out ... Thus I think this CD is 5/10.

Good or Bad - Sampling Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit - made a lot of people go to youtube and hear a classic masterpiece ...

Bottom Line = Like him or hate him - Kanye did a wonderful campain for this album. He let everyone hear his best two songs and let the world go crazy in anticipation.
