OFFICIAL Ye fka "kanYe West" x G.O.O.D. Music Thread - ¥$ (AKA YE X TY DOLLA SIGN) - VULTURES (NOW AVAILABLE WOWWWW)

Its a sin to like this album. Had conversation last night about it, the slander was hilarious. Homie had the audacity to say the production was weak.

Try talking to hood dudes about this. 30 seconds into on site and they wanted no parts of this album.

Their loss

This cat Kanye has serious A.D.D.  Album is all over the place.

And hip-hop or not, it's still not good (imo).  Beats are all over the place, random sound effects, and Kanye ranting like a drunk hobo on the corner.

I like the album. I don't love it.

I think the beats are dope, especially Black Skinhead, Blood on the Leaves, and New Slaves.
Those are my favorite tracks and IMO the best ones. The rest of the album is pretty meh to me.

Also, I know a lot of you guys are praising the ends of the songs, when the beat gets stretched out for a while, but I think he makes the endings a little too long, they seem to drag on for me.

SMH.  That's pretty much the mind state of alot of Kanye fans these days.  At least your honest champ.

I like his music regardless of what he says. I disagree with a TON of Rage Against the Machine's views, yet I still enjoy their sound.

If I analyzed Kanye's lyrics it would just piss me off and I couldn't enjoy it. I still think Kanye is a clown, as a person.

I'm a huge Nine Inch Nail's fan though and love the industrial rock sound.

Most of the "music critics" and magazines don't like or respect hip hop. So when one of hip hop's biggest stars goes left they're more than willing to take the ride with him. And its clear that some of you are as well. It's almost a mockery of the culture. Periodicals that have panned Kanye's truest albums are now praising his most contrived. This album clearly isn't an album for rap fans and I don't understand why most of you don't find this to be as ridiculous as a country singer doing a rap album. What credibility does Kanye have in the electro/punk/new wave/dancehall fields he's trying to incorporate his raps into? Where is the accountability in hip hop? Stop talking to me about what I need to do to understand this album outside of the realm of hip hop. It's clear that Kanye believes he has transcended hip hop and that is why we got this crappy album from one of the most talented HIP HOP artists of all time. So again, as I stated earlier in the thread, the question is who else in hip hop would we accept this album from? If the answer is no one then we shouldn't accept it from Kanye. He's not half as special as he thinks he is.
check my post out a few pages back...same sentiment.

It's music, Rav.

If you like it, you like it. If you don't, you don't.

If a country artist made a hip-hop album, I would only care if it was good. Because then I'd be listening to it. If it wasn't good, I would say it wasn't good and move on. I wouldn't be insulted at the effort.

Music doesn't belong to anyone. It isn't something where to say you started like *this* so you can only do *this*...how dare you do *that*?!?

If he thinks he transcended hip-hop, more power to him. but, he's rapping on this album. Straight up rapping. The production isn't boom bap. But, he's rapping like only a rapper could. I don't think it's "this is what hip-hop sounds like and if it doesn't sound like this, it isn't hip-hop" situation. That's constricting. And just wack. Boring. Repetetive. All that.

He's made that album 3 or 4 times. He wants to do something else. And that's fine.

It really only comes down to whether it's good or not. Credibility in a certain genre is up to said genre to check.

If that genre is offended by your attempt, they'll get you out of there pretty quickly. It's a system of checks and balances. Same way he didn't have any cred in clothing, he's outta there.

If EDM/techno/house...whatever, feels a way, they'll get him out of there.

None of that is an opinion on the album. Whether you think it's good or not doesn't matter. But, he does have the right to make it. And it is hip-hop...with heavy influences from other genres.

It's not stale.

Okay, so you don't analyze Kanye's lyrics, but yet you like his music??  His lyrics are apart of the music equation.  For the last few pages, all I keep seeing is "I love this beat, I love this beat on top of this beat", I have yet to see one person quote or recite one worthwhile bar or lyric from this album, and seeing how Kanye is a hip hop artist, that's extremely sad and depressing.

For the vast majority of you Kanye fans out there, I would rather you dudes say you love listening to his instrumentals and leave it at that.  All this talk about "Kanye makes good music" is irrelevant when he's saying much of nothing, and even worse yet his fans, or so called fans aren't even attempting to listen to his lyrics. They are playing the album and checking for his beats and his beats only.

As much as I want Kanye to succeed, I just can't get jiggy with this. I'm very open minded too and listen to different genres, but this is just crap. Ain't no convincing me. I wasn't expecting CD material, but damn he's way better than this. It's sad because I feel he can put anything out and people will still eat it up.

I get that, but I don't have to like his lyrics to like his sound. Period.

OK since EVERYTHING it seems has to be clear cut with you on here.... I LIKE KANYE'S INSTRUMENTALS BUT I DONT LIKE HIS LYRICS.

Hip Hop MUSIC doesn't have to have killer lyrics in order to be good. Thats RAPPING. You don't have to RAP in order to have a HIP HOP song.

And I'm not a huge Kanye fan in general. I'm simply talking about an album in the Kanye post.

I can name over hundred bands, rappers, artists that I enjoy OVER Kanye off the top of my head.

uh what? hiphop doesnt have to have killer lyrics to be good, thats rap? are you foolish? You've got it totally backwards. hiphop is like nas, rakim, tupac, etc etc. the upper echelon of RAP. its music with a message, and the culture that goes along with it. Rap is..your radio. drake, wayne, wocka flocka (lol) I mean...you coulda at least used urbandictionary and got your definitions straight or something...

No it doesn't have to have "killer lyrics" in order to be good, but at least have good lyrics in it in order to be considered good.  Let's try that.

If doing that is what it will take to have you out of the George Zimmerman trial thread in General and in this thread for the time being while you name "over hundred bands, rappers, artists" that you enjoy OVER Kanye off the top then I'm all for it champ.  I say get to it, and by all means......take your time.

No. Hip hop is a sound. You don't have to have RAP in a hip hop song. Argue all you want.

I hear what you are saying but at it's core isn't Hip Hop the one genre that transcends and is heavily influenced by other genres year after year? As a hip hop fan for over a decade I remember to only listening to DJ Premiere "boom bap" beats years ago then a few years later listening to Dr. Dre incorporate italian strings/chords in his music. Hip Hop evolves at a faster pace than any other genre because its fans are the most fickle. To fault Kanye for rapping over house beats and calling it non hip hop is ridiculous because the genre itself is so loosely defined.

So you're just going to troll me wherever I go from now on? Grow up. Seriously. WAHHH someone has different views from me!

Just hit the ignore and get it over with. You might be one of the biggest nerds on this board I've encountered in my 10+ years here.

I'm not trolling anybody or anything.  If you have a different opinion then me, that's fine.  I merely gave a suggestion, whether you followed or not is totally up to you.  With that, I will say you have alot to learn about hip hop given your most recent statements in here.

AMEN

We all know Kanyes beats > lyrics. He has never been a real word smith. But I hate when people say its not "hip-hop". Music is music and it is all subjective. But not liking the album because it isn't "hip-hop" is kinda close minded to me.

Personally I love the abrasive drums he uses on black skinheads and blood on the leaves and new slaves. It makes the song a real statement, it just sounds so raw which I love and is a great change up from the more grandiose MBDTF. I still think college drop out was his best work.

 you know nothing of me dog.

I love how you come up with a definition of something, and run with it as the end all be all. Cool I ask how old you are?

I'm 29.

My first tapes were the Chronic, Doggystyle and 36 chambers in 93. Been running full force since then.

I'm not gonna sit in here and have a package size battle over who knows more about hip hop. I KNOW i've been all in since I was 8 so you can really think what the hell you want.
