It urks me that nobody understands this music video. Before I continue, I would just like to explain that I am not a huge Kanye West fan, yet I understand and appreciate his work, and I would just like to offer my two cents on this video, and the meaning behind it.
Alright firstly, the confederate flag. Many of you may or may not know that Kanye has put the confederate flag on a number of his new merchandise associated with the Yeezus tour. The reason for this is that he wants to replace a racist symbol with himself. He wants people to start associating it with him, instead of racism, so quite frankly it can't be used by racists, as it represents a 'Black Skin Head.' He has admitted to this. (I'll dig up the interview if you don't believe me.)
Now with this in mind, we can continue on to the Bound 2 video. This video presents some of the most stereotypical, if not corny american stereotypes. The desert. The galloping stallions. The beautiful woman. The soft porn. The lone ranger riding his motorcycle into the sunset. And it is all presented in such a simple and uninspiring way that it is almost a mockery of these things. The only thing not stereo typically american here, is the fact that the lone ranger is black.
So why is Kanye doing this? Well it is pretty simple, he is taking White American culture, and he is replacing it with a Black skin head. This is essentially an aggressive cultural takeover that the average person probably doesn't even realise is happening. Why else would he debut the video on the Ellen show? It is a white american talk show, with a white american demographic. This man is literally destroying white american stereotypes by making them revolve around him. The funniest part is, hardly anyone realises it. Oh and who is white america's favourite white person? Jesus. Im sure you all get where im going with this

If you legit enjoy this video i can't think of you of any but a stan.

I will say that if he was actually riding a bike through the desert while banging kim that would have been cool

kinda reminded me frank oceans pyramid video

I'm a big Ye fan and even I agree that vid was bad. Ye is on a major losing streak in regards to music videos

Bret Easton Ellis, author of American Psycho, Less than Zero, and Rules of Attraction, sat down with Kanye West for his podcast. They talked about being 14, books and movies that changed their lives, and other awesome things.

Ehhh I thinks that analysis of the Bound 2 video is imparting way more than there really is. I think the message is a simple one, actually, and it most certainly has little to nothing to do with race.

Kanye is an artist. Furthermore, he's made it known that he's an artist in the truest sense of the word (his opinion).

Yeezus was undoubtedly his greatest artistic achievement yet (as he would probably say), musically speaking, because he consciously divorced himself from what was sonically expected of him. He experimented and assumed a new sound that was true to his artistic vision and leanings. Yeezus was evidence of him growing as an artist. However, sometimes, artistic vision can clash with prevailing expectations, and this can be a recipe for disaster when business and profits are part of the equation.

"Profit" wise, Yeezus's debut numbers were a disappointment. It was by no means a "flop", but given Kanye's debut history, Yeezus stands as the unquestionable black sheep in a catalog of first week sales winners. What can be concluded from this? It's simple--Yeezus as a whole was not well received by the general public. The key word in the previous statement is whole. Yes, as a whole the album wasn't well received if we're going by the numbers, but certain songs were hailed as a triumph because they kinda had that element of the "old Kanye"--you know the guy everyone has been pining for--in them. These songs followed the recipe of sound that is customary of the "old Kanye", so they were lauded and celebrated. Bound 2 was the biggest of these "familiar" tracks.

Now even though Bound 2 was one of his most celebrated tracks, I have no doubt in mind that 'Ye hates (perhaps too strong of a word, but at the moment I can't think of a more appropriate term) the track for the simple fact that it's a remnant--a vestige--of an era and a sound he's trying to move away from. Bound 2 is symbolic of the "old 'Ye". It's nostalgic and effectively sentimental, and for it to be appreciated so much is likely an affront to 'Ye's vision of artistic growth. This is not without consequences, however.

So how does 'Ye respond and get back at a contingent that celebrates his artistic stagnation while condemning his artistic vision and growth? Simple--he pairs the sounds of Bound 2 with visuals that almost appear to have been commonplace in a time long forgotten. Speaking in metaphors, it is as if dude is telling his audience that Bound 2 is naturally set and appropriate in a forgotten era--a past he has moved on from. However, being the generous host he is, he is more than happy to furnish this past if that is what the masses really crave. He will serve it and you will like it; but if you choose not to like it, then you have no room to criticize him for being progressive about his leanings, vision, and sound.

The visuals to Bound 2 seem misplaced and out of context only in relation to the present--the now. Thus, the implied argument is that the sounds of Bound 2 are equally out of context in the present. 'Ye likely included the track in the final list as if to declare to his audience that "he still has it", and can summon the "old 'Ye" whenever he feels like it. The track was thus an "ode" to his former self and an article of nostalgia for us. But it likely wasn't meant to be worshipped--least not at the expense of "new 'Ye" and his new sound.

One last point. The video for Bound 2 is what would be regarded as kitsch in the art world. From the horses, to the clouds, to the mountains, 'Ye's tacky wardrobe, to Kim's fabricated sensuousness, not to mention the garishly bright colors. The various elements wreak of a tackiness that is presently uncouth, however familiar and celebrated they were at some forgotten point in the past. So considered from this angle too, we are witness to 'Ye's silent mockery of a fan base and audience lost in the past. With Kanye being an artist, the idea of kitsch would not be lost on him, and in consequence, we see it masterfully executed and exacting the types of responses it was likely aimed at generating.

In closing, if it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, then we can agree that it is most likely a duck. Well if it looks like a troll vid and plays like a troll vid, then it's likely a troll vid. The only question worth asking, then, is why this kind of vid and what is this vid saying about it's companion song?
