Although I'm not into Citizen Cope, a good friend of mine begged me to go see his opening act earlier this year & I was blown of my feet seeing Gary Clark Jr. This young cat is the truth. He's had some two indie releases which are no longer available on iTunes but his new EP is available. His major label debut should be coming later this year & early next year. If you see him playing near you, please go see him. I will post some of his other vids. Let me know what you think NT...

I was literally blown away when I saw him live. I stood there for the first 20 mins with my jaw opened...I will def see him every time he comes around...

Wish the audio quality was better on this vid. This kid's got swagger only a Texan could have...

put me on, sir, you have

good music. i DL'd his Bright Lights EP and heard snippets of his self titled EP. Definitely a talented man. Seems like he could go multiple routes with his music. Interested to see where he takes it with his major label debut.

Sidenote: You don't mess with Citizen Cope? He definitely has shortcomings, but he makes good music. Plus I heard a Citizen Cope live performance is what life's all about...

Sidenote #2: Keep postin' your music tastes my man. Saw you go in in the jazz thread. Even if you only get a few replies, the streets are watching

. Would love to see more diversity in the music forum.

Naaa, could never get into Citizen Cope but he was good live. My friend was in Austin, Texas & saw Gary Clark Jr while he was there. When he saw he was coming where we live, he told me we had to go...

Thanks for the compliment. My father & godfather were audiofiles. They had really expensive stereo equipment & each had at least 500-600 (possibly more) records and when CDs came out, tons of CDs. Music was always on so it's kinda embedded in my DNA. I have just under 1400 cds & proly 200 records.

You'r right. It's always nice to see some diversity in the Music forum. I get sad when I see threads like this or the Jazz thread maybe get 1-2 pages & then see someone like Soulja Boy (spelled right?) getting 25 pages. Oh well. It is what it is.

Yea he's definitely killing *%*%, been hearing a lot about him and the vids you posted do him justice.

I'll see him when he's in NYC

Can't find the actual vid, but he's being featured with Nas on ESPN's NFL draft promos...

Hell he's he is. I've been Putting my friends on him wherever possible for the longest time. Had the chance to see him live at coachella last week and he did not disappoint

Yeah, I heard the album & it has some nice tracks but whoever his producer was, did a crap job. Clark is trying to hit multiple genres with his release instead of trying to kill it with one (say blues). Some of the tracks sounded generic to me & the album kind of meanders. Still going to buy it to support him though...I think he tried to get flossy with it to try & move units instead of making a cohesive album.

That's real disappointing to hear. I was going to buy it tomorrow, going to have to listen to it first now.

Gary Clark Jr. - Full Performance (Live on KEXP)

Songs:
When My Train Pulls In
Don't Owe You a Thing
Bright Lights
Shotgun Man

i think its due to him having songs spanning over 3 years of work. i think its a great introduction to his talents and versatility, and next album will be more focused.

I'll def agree with that especially with him playing a bunch of festivals with a diverse range of acts but that's where a strong producer comes in & brings cohesion to the recording process & helps select tracks for the album. If anything he could've released the other tracks as an EP...
