Inside Lucian Freud's studio

An intimate portrait
FOR two decades David Dawson worked as Lucian Freud's assistant and, occasionally, his model. His photographs of the artist at work are the subject of a new exhibition in London

So I casually follow street art and finally got around to watching the Banksy' one.. 'Exit through the giftshop' and searched it online afterwards. Someone break this down to me.. there's speculation that Banksy himself just made up MBW and it's all just a big joke/making fun of the art world? Or that MBW is just completely insane and made it off pure hype?

I just went to a talk by Laurel Nakadate. It was kinda interesting. Her work is much more interesting.

My latest. A depiction of the disconnect in oneself (especially in the context of being an artist.)

San Francisco-based photo and video artist, Richard T. Walker, gave a talk a few days ago at my school. Very interesting work and a really insightful/thoughtful artist.

yo you did this?  This is amazing.  The attention to shadowing is fantastic along with the blue hues in the shirt itself which you can actually happen with white shirts.

^Thanks. Yeah, that was my latest painting.

I'm working on some smaller expressive pieces as well as coming up with the concept for the next painting. Going to check out the John Baldessari exhibit at MCASD La Jolla tomorrow.

HOw satisfied are you guys with your local art scenes? (where are you located?)

Me, I'm in Budapest, Hungary and we're getting a few good exhibitions this year Banksy and Cezanne, but other then that I feel it's much too small. Unfortunately it's been a bit since I've been to London or NYC and can only imagine whats going on in those cities...

Very satisfied! The art scene is definitely expanding here in Vancouver.

Brian Jungen is currently being exhibited at the VAG, his work never cease to amaze me, especially since I'm part of the sneaker game. Although, it is a little bittersweet seeing them J's chopped and screwed

Amazing nonetheless.

& I remember when I first saw some of his sneaker art.. it's pretty impressive, would love to see it in person

I think the art scene here in San Diego is quite small. We don't really have too many good museums that can compare to the world class cities like San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, or London. The community of artists here is quite small but I'm trying to get more involved.

Are those Jordan pieces of work sculptures or photoshops printed?

San Francisco is that big?

BTW China just beat US in being the largest art and antique market today.

I live and attend school in the Tri-State area, so as far as the art scene goes, I've got it made...

.
Went to the Forum Gallery this past friday to check out the Odd Nedrum exhibition. Also browsed through the Chelsea galleries--nothing noteworthy caught my eye.

Then visited the Wadsworth Athenium, in Hartford, on Saturday for their classical master works.

was about to throw away an old sliding door (canvas material)... figured whip up something for the shoe room downstairs

^keep at it man. I have a friend that paints in a similar style as you. It's interesting seeing how people from so far away can create work in similar manners.

The John Baldessari show was incredible. That man is an inspiration as far as how to THINK about making art. Anyone can learn the techniques and, with time, get pretty good. What sets good art apart from craft is the idea behind it. Concept is king.
