You know how many scrubs get open looks in nba games? Yall are making it seem like it would take a God like effort to score once. Ray Allen is probably the best 3 point shooter ever and he still gets open looks from time to time

Exactly why I can't take you guys serious. So a lot of you forget that there more to basketball then getting buckets. So first lets include the crowd, a lot of you have never played in a basketball game with about 10k so the crowd factor along will have you shook. The crowd won't affect you? Ok...endurance getting up and down the court with some of the best athletes in world. So you telling me you can get off your couch and run with John Wall, Russy and Rondo? Rigggght, on top of the you have to play D, these dudes are running you through screens set by 6'8-7 ft dudes who's making sure to put a body on you. What you thought they was going to run to a corner on O and make it that easy for you guard them. So you gonna tell me you gonna play through all of that and go on the other end of the court and have the legs to get a shot off. Over a guy prolly 6in taller then you and out weights you by 50 lbs or so and way more athletic then you. You think they not gonna bump you on offense? What you think they gonna let you just run to a corner and hide and hope somebody kicks it out to you for a open J? Way too many factors included to getting buckets in NBA and a lot of you don't seem to understand that.

Dudes talking averaging 5 ppg, you do realize cats that avg that usually stick around in the league...so now we got cats on NT that can find a roster spot permanently in the League.

Yea aite.

In the general forum there's guys that think they would last a few rounds in a UFC match with a professional MMA fighter.

Here we have guys that think the would average 5-10 ppg in the NBA if given the chance.

It all depends. 1on1 im not getting one point unless they feel sorry and give me the lane or a free jumper here and there. Playing a whole 48 minutes 5on5 I could prolly get a couple buckets because more then likely they are gonna leave me to double someone else and I could prolly bury a shot here or there. Prolly like 5 or 6 points. I could break double digits if the jumper is wet one game prolly.

I could see getting 5 or 6+ open jumpers a game just off the fact that they wouldnt even worry about me.

But thats assuming I would get all 48 minutes. I dont see how that would even be possible when guys like Lebron and Durant dont even go 48.

In transition I'd get at least one open three as a trailer.

I wouldn't score in the halfcourt unless I'm playing with someone who draws a double.

So 3 points.

Guys who average 5 ppg in the nba game are the same guys who average 18-20 ppg or more in college d1 and average 20-30 ppg in varsity hs. A guy like Scalabrine who played like ten minutes total his ten years in the nba (completely exaggerating) dropped like 18 ppg in college.

You can look up any "scrub"'s resume and find they put up numbers in high school/college.

And an open shot in the nba for an nba player is not necessarily an open shot for you. If you're average height you better have a super quick release.

look ,its not 100% that everyone on this board will score 0 points. yes they defense is fast but an open 3 is an open 3, lebron will set you up.

Another thing, just because somebody is able to score 5ppg in the NBA, doesnt mean theyll play there, its not that simple. There are so many pros out there in the world that just dont get noticed. Look at dre baldwin, you telling me he couldnt score in the NBA? Hes not gonna get in, hes 31. theres only so many roster spots available.

Most nters, if not all on this board could be boosting but you cant be speaking for them if you havent seen em play

My two cents,

To score in an actual NBA game, your only hope would be score in transition or on a fastbreak and even then, it would be a pull up jumper.

It's hard as **** to score in the half. The length, plus speed, plus the height and weight of the players, no way. Their length alone would stop you from making a jumper. If you catch the ball, unless you have uber quick handles they'll just take it from you and even if they don't take it, you're not beating them off the dribble so you're going to have to pass it. So how would you really score?

That being said, in an NBA game? I would give myself maybe 3 to 5 points. I only say that because I've had a little success playing against d1 and league players in pickup at ucla up at the sac center or in the drew league/say no. And I would have to work out like hell over an entire summer to get to 3 to 5 points in an NBA game.

It should be noted that 3 to 5 points in one game is not the same as averaging 3 to 5 a game either.

We talking about one game though. All it would take is a backdoor cut and converting the layup to get 2 pts. Then hitting one open jumper... just ONE and you have four. It would also depend on who I'm playing against. Going scoreless wouldn't be an option. One game in the NBA and to not get your name on the box score would be a waste. I'm going AI style to score at least one bucket. Coach is gonna have to pull me or the team is gonna have to stop passing me the ball for me to stop chucking and get that first bucket.

I might be able to get an open look or two off of a drive and kick.  In order for me to score, it would have to be within the first 3 minutes before my legs are gone.

an easy 10. Nobody plays defense to stop fast breaks or boxes out to stop garbage buckets. Free throws are gimmes and I'm catching a body when a good for nothing big man has his back turned.

here's my logic.

i went to iowa state from 03-07. i played against guys on the team all the time. in the 4 years and many players 2 made it to the NBA. getting buckets on them in a pick up setting wasn't that difficult. i can catch and shoot from anywhere. so if four transition opportunities presented themselves and i played with a great passer, i could knock down that 18 footer. in the halfcourt i'd have problems.
.
____ and Blalock?

How were those dudes off the court?

Blalock had handles man.

I wish Curt Stinson got his break into the NBA. He has been killing in the D-League for years, never got his shot.

actually the two names i was thinking of were Wes Johnson and Mike Taylor. Blalock and Stinson were there my first 3 years. Blalock was cool off the court, Stinson not so much. i had a few arguments with him on the court. maybe he thought i would be in awe of him like the majority of the campus.

i honestly can't tell you why Stinson isn't in the league. like i don't think he's ever had a call up. he could have been a 3rd pg or decent backup. maybe its off the court issues. last i saw, Blalock was in Australia
