Chinese teams have shown no inclination to let Kenyon Martin, Wilson Chandler, JR Smith, Etc., out of contracts, sources tell Y! Sports.

They all signed agreements that they would have to play in China until season ends in March. They can't sign NBA contracts without releases.

If strategy becomes to make themselves problems there -- or In Smith's case, a bigger problem -- teams can fine, suspend them, without pay.

As official says: "They can play, get paid (in China), and return to NBA in March. Or they can not get paid, and return to NBA in March."

The NBA's a member of FIBA, and it abides by international contracts signed by players. Players and agents knew that when they signed deals.

Trapped. Won't even get paid, play or be able to leave if their mindset is, "I'll be a knucklehead to get released".
Nene Could Leave Nuggets Due To Lack Of Respect
The Nuggets should have the inside track to re-sign Nene.

The team can pay him more money than any other team and his wife is a native of the state, leading him to plan on making Colorado his permanent home when he retries.

But it may not be enough to entice him to stay with the team.

“I learned last season that this was a business,

Do we even have a squad?  I knew Nene was gone when he didn't reup under the old CBA.

Yea yall dudes better use the D-League or something. No team at all. Afflalo isn't coming back. For what reason would he? Go to Chicago Arron.

Sorry Blazers LOL

Afflalo will return, and I'm fairly positive it will be by choice.

If he tries to choose otherwise, he'll still end up in Denver.

Lawson, Afflalo, Gallinari, Miller & Andersen are solid. Faried & Hamilton should be able to contribute right away, Mozgov has been looking much improved, and Gary Forbes showed some great play last season. I'm pretty positive Chandler will be returning when he's finished up in China in the Spring, as he's restricted, and although I wouldn't be sad to see him go, I have a feeling J.R. will be back, too.

It's obvious this isn't the same team as '09, or even last season, but in a rebuilding stage, I'm comfortable with the pieces that are there. Lawson, Afflalo, Gallinari, Faried, Mozgov & Hamilton are all above average players (Faried & Hamilton at the college level) who have yet to reach their full potentials; I just hope they keep improving. This may draw some laughs, but I also think Koufus could turn himself into a very solid NBA player. He has great size, and is very athletic--his post moves are pretty solid, it just seems that he's lacking confidence on the NBA stage.

On to Nenê: I hope he's done with the Nuggets. If he took that extension, cool. He turned it down, opted out... give Mozgov the minutes & develop him. I'm sure given Nenê's 30 MPG, he could come close to matching his 15 PPG & 8 RPG. Nenê's extremely skilled and athletically gifted, but doesn't do nearly as much as he's capable of--and he never will. Paying him ~$12 million/year will only slow down the rebuilding process, and won't change where the Nuggets are in the standings come April.

Yup,

Nene isn't consistent enough to throw the cash his way.
Nuggets exec Masai Ujiri talks about Nene, Afflalo, fans as NBA lockout nears end
By Benjamin Hochman

Meeting with the media for the first time since the NBA lockout ended, Nuggets exec Masai Ujiri fielded questions about many hot topics regarding his team.
 • On Nene, the free agent big man: “We want Nene back and we’re going to do everything we can to try to get him back here. Yes, we made contact with his agent today – we’ll keep talking and see how that goes. I think he wants to test it and we respect that, we respect what he’s doing, we respect Nene as a player. We want Nene back here. And we feel we’re doing our best to get him back here.
Arron is one popular Afflalo
It’s been a familiar refrain from a handful of front-office types during the first few days of the NBA’s gradual return to offseason normalcy: Denver’s Arron Afflalo is a popular choice when you ask execs to pinpoint the most attractive free agent outside of the big men.

Afflalo’s Denver teammate Nene, Dallas Mavericks center Tyson Chandler, New Orleans Hornets forward David West and Memphis Grizzlies restricted free agent Marc Gasol are universally seen as the most coveted players on the open market.

But Afflalo, with a blossoming offensive game to go with his more polished D, has his own growing group of admirers if you listen to the GM grapevine.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, despite possessing no cap space to bid for the 26-year-old swingman, will continue to press the Nuggets to see if they’re amenable to sign-and-trade discussions. Sources say New Jersey and Minnesota, meanwhile, are among the teams with salary-cap space weighing whether to extend an offer sheet after free agency officially starts Dec. 9 that the Nuggets will have three days to match to keep Afflalo.

You tend to believe that the Nuggets have to match anything they see here. At a time when they know multiple teams are throwing big money at Nene -- after restricted free agent Wilson Chandler and unrestricteds Kenyon Martin and J.R. Smith all bolted to China -- Afflalo’s future is the rare roster issue in Denver that the home team has control of.

You can also make the case that Afflalo, in the same group with Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and Ty Lawson, is as valuable as anyone on the payroll in Denver’s post-Carmelo Anthony world.

“We feel comfortable that we’ll get something done there,

I think the Nuggz need to start the rebuilding process. Nene isn't going to resign and we should use the amnesty clause on Al.

Absolutely. I'd like to see them part ways with Smith, too, as he doesn't seem like a positive around young, impressionable players.

Both the Lakers & Bulls have nothing to offer; it's pretty ridiculous if they seriously believe they can trade for Afflalo.
