Denver Nuggets (10-4) 2023-24 Season Thread: 11/22 @ Magic

Report: Nuggets offered draft pick for Doc Rivers, will settle for Lionel Hollins or Brian Shaw
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....will-settle-for-lionel-hollins-or-brian-shaw/

If Shaw/Hollins are the only options I'm not sure who I'd prefer. Hollins has been there done that, tough, defensive minded.

Shaw's been credited with the player development of Paul George, probably has a chip on his shoulder, learned from the Phil Jackson and he's younger.

After typing that I guess it would be Shaw.

A guy REALLY needs to be brought in to develop the bigs....Why hasn't anyone offered Hakeem a job??? :nerd:

Vinny Del Negro will interview for the Denver Nuggets' head coaching job this weekend, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Vinny Del Negro (USA Today Sports)
Del Negro will be the third candidate to meet with Nuggets management for the vacancy.
Former Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins and Indiana Pacers assistant Brian Shaw met with team CEO Josh Kroenke and general manager Tim Connelly on Tuesday and Wednesday. Hollins and Shaw are still considered leaders for the job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Despite the Los Angeles Clippers enjoying their best regular season in history with 56 victories, Del Negro, 46, wasn't offered a new contract in April. The Clippers were eliminated in a first-round playoff series against the Grizzlies.
In five seasons as head coach of the Clippers and Chicago Bulls, Del Negro reached the playoffs four times and advanced to the Western Conference semifinals in the 2011-'12 season. He was 210-184 in those years.
Denver fired the NBA's coach of the year, George Karl, after a 57-victory season and a third seed in the Western Conference. Karl didn't want to go into the last year of his contract without an extension, and Kroenke decided to fire him out of fear of a season of unrest between the coach and management.

@WojYahooNBA Denver's pick at 27 is available, teams tell Y! Nuggets open to future 1st, or moving back into 30's. Nuggets like their young roster core.

Reggie Bullock
Jamaal Franklin
Allen Crabbe
Glen Rice Jr

From the mock drafts I've see Franklin is on a couple

Word is Brian Shaw looking at Bernie Bickerstaff, Jim Boylan and Tyronn Lue as potential assistants....may look at Alvin Gentry as well

Brian Shaw quotes:

"i feel like im a young coach, with an old soul"
On JaVale/Faried: “You have to put them in position to succeed – and live with the mistakes they’ll make.”
On Filling staff "got 200 texts – 100 from guys who want to be on his staff."
"I think this team is very close (to contending)."
Shaw would tell Paul George and Lance Stephenson that Kobe Bryant doesn't cut corners
Shaw didn't say Kobe's name, he just reffered to the guy on the other coast he coached who didn't cut corners. Coulda been Smush Parker.
Shaw on some players - They don’t care what you know, they want to know that you care
Important quote from Brian Shaw: “One area I want to strengthen is the ability to play in the halfcourt in the playoffs”
I think I got type-casted as a triangle guy - Shaw
"(I plan to) be patient, yet firm, developing young players." - Brian Shaw
Shaw on his pressure for other teams he's been w: "championship or bust" .. .on Denver, "I love this roster"

I think I really like our new coach :pimp:

I'm not sure if it's just my interest in college ball waning over the past handful of years, but I can't remember being less interested in a draft. Only really interested in seeing what trades involving current players take place on draft night.

I really like what Shaw had to say today. Feeling great about the hire, just hope he can put his money where his mouth is.

One of my favorite drafts in recent memory,

The Nuggets will trade the rights to Rudy Gobert to the Utah Jazz, league source tells Y!

RT @ESPNSteinLine: Hearing Grizzlies have trade in the works: Darrell Arthur and 55th pick will be dealt to Denver for Kosta Koufos

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine 3m
Nuggets brass were not happy George Karl started Koufos ahead of JaVale McGee. Koufos' exit seals the expected: McGee gets to start now

Another injured SF :rolleyes

Mozgov stays now?

Unless the Mozgov deal is less than Koufus I'm gonna say he got traded because he was Karl's guy.

Nuggets took NCAA leading scorer Erick Green with the 46th pick in Round 2. Green worked out for the Nuggets last week..

Erick Green played four seasons at Virginia Tech. He led the nation in scoring last year with an average of 25 points per game - not as easy accomplishment when every team you face is game-planning for you. Green is also a diverse scorer. He took 4.9 three-pointers per game and made them at a 38-percent clip. He shot nearly 50-percent from the field (47.5-percent) and 81-percent from the foul line -- where he was a frequent visitor with 8.3 free throw attempts per game.

I liked Koufos, but there's no point in rolling with a guy for the entire season if you're not going to be able to depend on him come Playoff time. He was god awful for the final month+ this year, and Karl playing him in the first 2 games against LA in 2012 is probably the reason the Nuggets lost the series.

Will be interesting to see what the market is like for Mozgov this summer.

Not too sure what to make of Green. No doubt he could score in college, I just wonder if he can adjust to the PG role in the L.

Didn't MozGov pick up his option? Or we picked up his option? Either way he's staying. And what do you guys Andre Miller is gone?

With Green, Ty, Gallo, Miller, Evan and possibly Brewer 1-2 guards will not see any time. And I doubt they stunt Green's growth after last year. He has to get at least 7 mins a game.

I'm not sad to see him go or anything I just don't like the idea of exchanging him for a injured SF/Stretch 4 while helping the Grizzles get front court depth and opening up minutes for Ed Davis.

Not to mention showing your hand in dealing with Mozgov. He was already making more than Koufus no way his market value is less than 3 million a year. (Teams were trying to trade for him last year)

Lawson/Miller/
Fournier/Hamilton
Chandler//Miller
Faried/Randolph/Arthur
Mcgee/

At least there should be actual competition for backup minutes this season. Should be interesting.

Green, International player, Mozgov, Iggy, Gallo, Brewer

We have 3 spots left for 6 players

Gallo & Green stay. If we sign Iggy then Mozgov and our other pick dont make the team. I'm sure you keep our other pick til Gallo then D-League I guess.

I think it's safe to say Brewer isn't coming back. Add him to the list of forgotten players who's stock rose after time with the Nuggets who leave/get overpaid and are never heard from again.

Roster is at 17 with draft picks and everybody coming back.

Stone (qualifying offer) and Quincy (non guaranteed) and Green

I'm guessing Quincy/Green to the D- League. Lauvergne can be the 3rd center
