Denver Nuggets (10-4) 2023-24 Season Thread: 11/22 @ Magic

If McGee passing on that fast break is a sign of things to come from him things are definitely looking up.

Takeaways from the game:

The switching on defense was incredible. At times we were undersize but as long as we keep a body on the ball it didn't matter. If that lasts 82+ games I will be extremely happy.
Javale was great. A little rusty but I contribute that to him getting 2 ticky tack fouls but I like what I saw. Not sure I saw much of Faried.
I like our bigs adding that midrange to their game. I just hope they don't rely on that too much but I like it.
Our 3 point shooting was a lot better in the 2nd half. The percentage might not show but I liked the confidence.
Jordan Hamilton & Evan are poised to have a good year.
didn't see what Shaw saw in Miller to start him but I'll let the young bull have a chance.

All in all. DECENT for the 1st game back. Let's see how things progress.

Side note, I hope this doesn't come off as hating but didn't any one see the Warriors play last night? Didn't Iggy look uncomfortable? On fast breaks when he had the ball he was looking for oops or people in the corner and just saw Klay and Curry at the top of the 3  Granted he has to adjust but I just feel he won't fit cause he'll need the ball in his hands to dish to shooters and yeah not sure how that will work.

Faried was getting good inside position and no one could feed him the ball on time. Then he started rushing/forcing it when he did get the ball

Mozgov was doing a great Koufus impersonation

Quincy Miller was terrible.

I like what saw saw last night

Improvement in 3 point shooting is great and it should get better when Gallo and Chandler come back

JaVale showed improvement on offense

I like the halfcourt offense sets

Mid range shooting from our bigs

Idk about the Q. Miller-Paul George comparison from Shaw..

Pretty good showing especially with new players and a new head coach

Going to be thin at the 3 if Wilson isn't ready for the start of the season.
#Nuggets F Wilson Chandler (hamstring) did not return to practice as expected today.

#Nuggets F Wilson Chandler (hamstring) participated in non-contact part of practice today.

#Nuggets coach Brian Shaw says F Wilson Chandler (hamstring) will not play tomorrow vs. San Antonio. They continue to be cautious w/him.

Meanwhile, #Nuggets G Nate Robinson is now limited to non contact as well with a right glute strain. He and Chandler are day to day.

Fournier looks off too.

Nate + Hickson connection was nice to watch.

Lawson made some nice passes and made strong finishes. That missed dunk :smh:

Faried gon Faried...he was crashing the defensive boards extra hard

Hard to gauge things when they aren't going against starters though.

Ty Lawson Questionable for OKC

According to the Denver Post’s Chris Dempsey, Ty Lawson is a game-time decision for tonight’s preseason game against the Oklahoma City Thunder with a back injury.

The report says that Lawson suffered the injury fighting through a screen during last night’s victory over the Spurs and is going to play the injury cautiously saying that if his back tightens up he will not play.

I only watched a few mins of the second half... Randolph was "guarding" him.

If Chandler doesn't get healthy...things will get ugly defensively on the perimeter

Nuggets cut Kyle Fogg and Reginald Becton-Buckner

Down to 16 now. Damion James & Quincy Miller on the block?

I don't see it either but he's been playing like trash and has a non guaranteed contract....with Gallo and Chandler hurt he had/has the perfect opportunity step it up.

The Denver Post reports from Nuggets practice that forward Kenneth Faried suffered a strained hamstring in practice Thursday and is day-to-day.

The timing is unfortunate for Faried. He's being asked in Brian Shaw's offense to play in much more of a traditional power forward role, which requires footwork and shooting he may not possess yet. Even after a preseason game Monday in which J.J. Hickson was given the start just to see what the lineup looked like, and in which Faried wound up soring 22 points and adding nine rebounds off the bench, mostly just by his usual array of energy plays, Shaw was resistant with his play.

Shaw was asked after he gam if there's a point where Faried's energy and raw ability to make things happen with his play overcomes the gap in his polish. Shaw responded by talking in general terms instead of singling out Faried, but...

"I know that's the main thing our bigs can bring," Shaw said, "our energy. We're not as polished as a lot of bigs in the post in terms of throwing the ball to them with their back to the basket and them going to get a bucket for us. But that's the way we have to play, and they just have to get used to doing it that way, because that's how we're going to do it.

It's a process, and they'll gain more confidence as they get used to the way we're going to get the ball inside to them."

Hickson's not dominant in that respect either, but he's a lot more so than Faried. Faried's injury could further complicate his role in Shaw's offense. But overall, Faried is the superior player. He simply makes more of an impact at both ends, even with a lot to learn on the defensive end in terms of rotations and covering players in space. This will be something to watch, along with Faried's recovery.

The Nuggets' next preseason game is Saturday vs. the Clippers.

I understand him trying to get the team the play more fundamentally but handicapping the them by going away from their strengths isn't a going to make them better. :smh:

Can't remember seeing so many mental errors in from one team.

Miller and Mcgee in the last few minutes. :smh:

Miller guarding CP is just ridiculous under any circumstances

Damion James waived, roster set at 15.

I have a feeling the month of the season is going to be very interesting for this Nuggets squad.

Preseason wasn't too promising but I hope the first month of the season is better.
