How do you store your sneakers?

This is such a hot topic debate. Saran wrap vs Ziploc. Paper box vs. Plastic. This list goes on and on. I won't go into crazy detail, but I will tell you the basic guidelines. #1) Shoes do not like heat or moisture. Heat can cause glue to lose their grip on the soles which could case sole separation. When you are not wearing them, place the shoes into a dry, cool spot in your house. They also do not like moisture. Moisture can yellow the tabs on your III's, the soles of your XI's, and the mesh on the V's. You want to store them away from sunlight, in a cool, dry place. #2) I do not use any saran wrap or ziploc bags. I've heard a real OG sneakerhead tell me about how he compared some of his kicks with his brother. He would ziploc some of his shoes and his brother would not. The shoes came out to look exactly the same over the years. They really had no noticeable difference. #3) Always carry a backup pair of shoes. What I mean by this is that I carry a pair of Nike Free's in a ziploc bag inside of my bagpack just in case it rains. I am not getting water on my suede Jordans. I don't care if I have to walk barefoot to my car with my J's inside my shirt and I catch a cold in the rain LOL

. So I have my back up shoes with me at all times. The Nike Free's are super-lightweight and they can be smooshed down so they take up no space at all. And finally #4) Spend some money on shoe care products. I got a really soft and gentle suede brush, crease stoppers (footlocker), water repellent, lamb skin brush, and toothbrushes. Trust me, this stuff comes in handy. If I had to say what not to do is DO NOT BRAG ABOUT YOUR KICKS. I hear the stories over and over again about how people get robbed of their kicks. Some people lose their entire collection because people break into their houses because they know you have a lot of kicks

. P.S. I like the OG boxes that come in. I never throw away the boxes as it hurts the collectability aspect of the Jordans. When people buy/sell cars on Mecum, they LOVE the original paperwork, wheels, etc. So why would you throw away the box? I love the box for my XVIII's and XIX's. They are very clever and adds to the fun of J's. P.S.S. The old shoe paper that the older Jordans came with are bad. They do contain trace amounts of acid in them. Throw them away! They are poison like asbestos! The new papers are ok. My favorite are the ones from the 6 rings and XX3's. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ME QUESTIONS. I'LL BE STUCK AT HOME ALL NIGHT TONIGHT STUDYING FOR FINALS SO I NEED BREAKS LOL.

^^ very good info. I am about to break into my black cements later today, but as of right now, I am putting a water/stain repellent on the entire shoe and bottom soles.

I still have my other pair in my closet.

also, i guess it really doesn't matter if you ziplock your sneakers unless you want to seal in that "fresh out of the factory" scent.

Keep an eye out for peeling on the midsoles. There is a HUGE forum about it here on NT. You may notice the sides of your shoes peeling or cracking. It happened to my Flip's after 3 wears

I was wondering why store it in a dark place? I have em in plastic bins in my room, and my lights usually on. Will that have an effect or should I move it into my closet?

Away from windows, away from light. Inside your closet, in their respective boxes. If you have shoe paper in the boxes, make sure they are not "brownish" color. Those are the bad kinds of paper. You can just throw those away. Light = bad. Humidity = bad. Moisture = bad. Dry = good. Cool = good. Bleach = bad. Washing machine = bad. Tide color safe = good.

I leave them the way I get them from the factory. Im over yellowing and all that jazz. I wipe them down with a wet wipe and put them back in the box until next wear.

I put my Jordans in my closet, but I leave the door open so the cool air can enter.

I also take out the paper.
my room is dark almost all the time so I ain't worried 'bout direct sun contact

all my jordans are still fresh 'till this day

Guys if i take the paper out of my 2011 3's will the red from inside the box do anything?

you can just put a sheet of printer paper inside and put the original paper that came with your shoes under it. good option if youre afraid of the color bleeding

Original Box, No paper... I place dry a dark towel in the box to absorb light. But the Gel soles are going to eventually yellow.

i gotta stress this point here:

extremes are bad, either way
too dry & too humid, they are both bad

i have found that a 40%-60% relative humdity is best

too often do i hear people fighting one extreme by using the other
balance

Lol this S*** is not that serious, only advice is to not ziplock anything that has an air bubble, and stock up on seaglow for your icey soles.

I store all of mine icy-soled sneakers in large zip lock bags, with silica gel. Here's one of my pairs of OG Concord XIs. Yellowing is probably inevitable, but they were stored this way when I bought them 4 years ago, they are still holding up pretty good IMO.

I zip lock each shoe, then I put em in a rubber maid big storage bin, seems to help. But it is going to happen one way or another, I think they have them yellow up on purpose. That way when they retro them, we can spend money on em over and over, and jack up the price on each other too.

Box, paper, extra laces etc. -----> straight to the closet.
Nothing fancy. I wear all my shoes anyways.

sorry for the dumb questions but what are the silica packs good for? and how much is a good amount to use?
