#NTNurses RNs (Registered Nurses)/Student Nurses Of NikeTalk Official Thread.

What school are you at?

I'm about to apply to my school BSN program but my GPA is killing me thanks to slacking off my freshman year.

(My name is Andrew/Drew also)

I'm a Rn student right now, well pre-nursing, applying for the program in January.
I'm volunteering at a local hospital and to be honest I don't like it, I'm just doing nursing because my parents want me to.

I want to major in economics or business

To be honest with you man, I was the same. I wasn't entirely sure if I wanted to become a nurse, but once I got into my program, it encouraged me to strive to do my best. Once you experience going through clinicals you have a better appreciation for it.
I'm not trying to deter you from your dreams dude, but I personally wouldn't go into economics or business in the condition that the economy is in now. My best friend recently graduated from a similar field and he has trouble finding a job anywhere.

Truly appreciated man.
Are you an RN around the Yonkers, White Plains, or Rockland county area?

That's true man. But I've got C's in Anatomy, B in Physiology, and B in Microbio. All my other classes got A's though. Not looking great for my program. But thanks for the input; I think I may be the same.
I used to work for Wells Fargo, and my homie just graduated from ucla and got a job with a private bank as an Investment banker. He graduated with a degree in Business Economics. I like that field more then medical to be honest.

But I see your point of view, that's dope that your almost done man congrats.

I'm really hoping it is. I read on MSNBC that RNs will be high in demand but I'm hoping that they're accurate.

If anything, re-take the A+P courses. In my area, a 3.0 is usually good enough to get accepted into a nursing program. I had to re-take A+P2 just because I couldn't understand most of it my first time through.

Congrats to your friend btw. Hopefully my boy ends up with the same blessing.

And thanks man. Unfortunately, a semester in this program feels like 2.

You could do it though dude. Never give up hope and just keep trying.

Hopefully your friend does too. I-bankers make 100,000 + a year.

agreed, I've talked to a few people in nursing programs and it's crazy how much studying is done by them.

I'm going to give nursing a try, but to be honest, really not sold on it. It's not for everybody i guess

I'm not in school for RN, but for Rad Tech. 2 more weeks and the second semester is over. I think I'm going to go into CT and maybe Nuclear Medicine.

I considered nursing as well and always wondered if anyone here was an RN.

It's totally the opposite here in California. From what I hear and see, the hospitals want RNs with at least 2 years experience.

my hospital is a community hospital, so the nurses don't really need much experience, unless they are going to b in the ICU or Telemetry, other than that, things are very routine, thetas why there is such a high population of new grads here.....i swear average age for RNs in my hospital is 28....cray...

They hiring any entry level positions, like transporters? Doubt you'll know unless you work HR, but damnit, I'm desperate

(not funny though).

I just checked the Job Projections and it says RN is on a major upswing. I have no medical experience at all you guys think I should go to school to become a RN ?

Most of my friends are nurses and most of them hate it after a year or two.  A few are taking classes now to earn a higher degree.  I expected it since most work on the floor.  My male nursing friend works at Mount Sinai and he tells me he gets all the heavy lifting jobs.  They sort of take advantage that he's the only male on their floor.  I think it's worth it because of the money, it allows you to enjoy nice things.  But now some of my friends say they don't make enough for all the things they have to deal with.

RN for about 2+ years here. Tiring? Yes. Rewarding? Yes. Well-respected? Most definitely.

The pay is worth it if you are willing to grind and put work in while you're young.
Pick up doubles and extra shifts, work weekends and holidays.
Depending on where you work and if you work extra, you can make a very nice living.

If you are truly a selfless person, patients/families/colleagues will love you. The hardest thing
to overcome will be developing time-management to do all the tasks at hand.

Currently a nursing student with 3 semesters left. The amount of work is unlike any class that you took for your prerequisites. Time management is key and make sure you make a lot of friends with your classmates because that definitely helps.

I have seen a trend latley of a lot of nurses I work with M and F going back to school to become an NP or PA. I say if u are going to do all that just get the MD from the start

Nursing is not for everybody. It's not even for me, I don't think. And I'm starting a job as an RN at a psychiatric facility in less than 10 days...

Much appreciation for the all the input guys. I feel like I definitely could do this. I've been on the books and clinicals for a while so I'm getting real used to it.
laugh.gif

Like some of you guys said, I think the hardest part is probably just getting that one year of experience after graduation.

I've been planning for the future as well. I'm praying that I can make it to a Nurse Anesthetist program after I get a few years as an RN under my belt. I heard it's pretty difficult to become a Nurse anesthetist but that pay is ridiculous.

If somehow I don't make it as a CRNA, I may look into being a Pediatri Edocrinology nurse.
