#NTNurses RNs (Registered Nurses)/Student Nurses Of NikeTalk Official Thread.

Congrats.
After I retire I want to go to school for nursing. Would like to work as an oncology nurse.

^ Congrats! a huge accomplishment.

If you're in so cal and in need of work there is a nursing job fair in Pasadena coming up this November, with time specifically for new grad RNs.

I'm working in So cal in medical-surgical, looking to get into something else at the moment.

I came across this thread while at work, good to see more guys in this profession as the opportunities are endless!
I'm currently a flight nurse, the best job hands down in my opinion. I get to ride around in a 6 million dollar helicopter and land on freeways to pick up patients and take care of them while doing 150 miles an hour.. Can't get any better than that. Depending on what state you are in and what program fly for, requirements are different. My program requires the nurses to be a paramedic as well as a nurse and also hold CCRN and CFRN certs.
I had to pay my dues tho, most people seems to think that a flight nurse is heavy ER. While part of it is true, we do transport ICU to ICU and our programs just started doing ECMO and other LVAD cardiac assist devices transfers. I spent 3 years in CVICU and was on the ECMO team... If I ever get tired of flying I think I want to do something like Cardiac perfusion.
Not to mention we were filmed for a reality series and I have my moments in a couple of episodes(if it ever airs.. http://abc13.com/entertainment/reality-tv-show-on-real-houston-heroes/154633/)

This is dope.

I got friends and FAM that are RN. my girl is one also. Recently they've been going out of state to find work. We all live in the bay area and they've been heading out to Texas and Tennessee, etc. good luck

Houston is built on two things Oil and Cancer. That being said, nurses do really well out here. The only ones not working are the ones that got caught up in drugs and there are a lot of them.

My ex wife was a nurse and she would say male nurse were work horses (heavy lifting) but the yambs and $ they got, more than made up for it. Nurses don't get out much, so any convenient male that would give them attention got the yambs.

Scrubs was her true life in a TV show.

Nurses don't get out much around you?

From what I've seen, most nurses in NY work 13 hour shifts.  I currently do the same and I'm off from Monday-Thursday.  My excuse for not going out much is that I'm a full-time student, but the established nurses that work my shift are flourishing on their days off.

I'm an LPN getting 40 hours between Friday afternoon to Monday morning. So I have 4 days off. I don't even use them like I should.

What's the pay like if u don't mind me asking? My girl supposed to start that program next year and since I gotta hold everything down #POP I wanna know if it's worth it

I know I'm not DaBottom, but at the first facility I worked at LPNs made a little over $25/hour.  In the facility I work at now LPNs employed by the facility directly make a little over $22/hour and LPNs brought in from the hiring agency make $28/hour.

I'm in NY, for the record.

I work at a drug recovery center so I got started at $20. I'm in S. Florida and I think that's rare. I do plan to go back for the RN but I don't regret this choice. This LPN background should make RN school a bit easier for me to understand.

I was on a flight from Chicago and met a RN student who was telling me I should consider working out there. I looked it up and LPN made about 15k more than they'd make down here. That cost of living tho. Not trying to live around Chief Keef.

Congrats to all my nurses, I've learned to appreciate YA and hate YA over the years of working side by side with you guys , please word of advice no matter how smart you are, go into a clinical setting as if you are a fresh sponge ready to absorb from your peers (doctors, seasoned nurses and RTs)

Respect your RTs please.

Nope we have an extreme shortage for Nurses in Texas and especially in Houston. It's so bad that they bringing in nurses from other countries.

Currently in my 1st semester too i work as a nurse aid.. Health assessment is cray cray we two conflicting instructors

Just found this thread, and good to know other NTers out there in the Mursing field.
I started an accelerated RN program up in Toronto in September (2nd Degree), my first semester of 6 consecutive with expected graduation July 2016.
I had a Kinesiology/Health Sci degree and was working for an insurance company the last 3 years before leaving after realizing that wasn't for me. My first clinical placement started this month and it's definitely looking like I made the right decision.
No doubt, it's a lot of work, but I'm definitely more up for it than anything else I've had to study for for work.

Currently living in TO, but considering a move back to NYC after graduating. Any RNs in the NYC area that have any advice (NCLEX prep, job applications, etc)? Definitely trying to plan long term.

^ Many people will say that it was easy, I didn't feel that way. It took me 200 questions. I passed first try and had a 3.3 GPA during nursing school if it matters.

I prepared by doing the Hurst and Kaplan preparatory courses. Hurst focuses more on pathophysiology while Kaplan focuses more on critical thinking and test-taking strategies. I formulated a study guide, and I can pass it along if you're interested shoot me a PM with your email.

Apply to take the NCLEX ASAP, as the board of nursing took forever for me to get my transcripts and application processed.

Sounds like you have some job opportunities, it isn't about what you know, but who you know.

Pdino, I'm def interested in a look at that study guide. PM sent

Word, ksteezy. My placement is currently in Medical Imaging, and the team dynamics with the RTs/RNs/MDs is nothing like what I expected. Only 2 weeks under my belt and already learning so much from the RTs and other RNs... I've got much respect for the RTs I work with and cool people to just talk to, too.

Yeah different hospitals have different dynamics, hopefully you end up in one where everyone respects and enjoys each other...gotta say besides learning how to apply critical thinking to solve problems that directly affect someone's life, the hardest part is years down the line when you realize how disentisized you are to death....

ICU RN working in the NYC area. Everything steezy is saying is pretty accurate. Very important to get along with your coworkers, it makes the job more manageable when stuff gets real and you need the troops. Another thing is that you come with that hunger to learn, exert extra effort, and help the homies when they need it and when you have down time. Remember that at the end of the day, that it only takes only one mistake for you to loose your hard earned liscense, so stay focused and kept it professional.

For all my NT nurses. If you're interested in a non-acute care opportunity working for Apple (yes, that Apple), let me know. The position is in Apple HQ in northern California, no experience necessary. One year contract position, 45$/hr+. Again, this is not your typical "nursing" work. PM me if SERIOUS, and I will get you in touch with people who can get you an interview with apple.

If only I was done with school I'd be on this like white on rice. Repped for giving people the opportunity on here. That's very nice of you to extend that gesture.
