Serious Discussion: The Boston Celtics

Yeah, the one thing I was thinking while making this post was "they havent played the elite teams of the West yet". Now, scary thing is, they cancompete AT LEAST with those teams. It will be a close game with all those teams, and I honestly see the Celtics coming out on the winning end more than 75% ofthe time against teams like San Antonio, Dallas, teams like that. The only team that gives them a great challange is Detroit and Phoenix, at least in my eyes.

See, i know it is early to tell, but they are on pace to go 73/74 wins with the winning percentage they have right now.

I know that once one player goes down for a long period of time, their record will get worse. But still, this team does have the talent and the ability to tieor break that record that the Bulls team set. Now, SKA i totally agree with you on the "Build" part of your post. And honestly, I dont think theCeltics will win the championship this year. However, in the regular season, against teams that they should win every night against, the Bulls record of 72-10is not a far cry of what they could do.

However, I think that as soon as the Celtics get the number one spot in the conference locked up, I am pretty sure that the starters will play limited minutes, because Doc Rivers understands what KG, PP, and Jesus means to this team.

Still, If they do break the Bulls record of 72-10, can they have the title of the "best team" in NBA history? I honestly cannot answer that questionfor myself. Im wondering what others think of that idea, to think that a team of KG, PP, and Jesus be proclaimed as the best team in NBA history.

I'm not convinced. They haven't played the better teams in the League yet. Time will tell.

I think they will end up very close barring a Ray Allen ankle injury

I do think that they can break the record, but I don't think that would make them the best team of all time.

I'm not sure that the 95-96 team was the best Bulls team of all time let alone the best team in general.

Surprisingly no physical team left in the NBA, to knock them around, so I do see them going 70...but not 72. Cleveland and Detriot will test them in theplayoffs, unless they kill each other first. Celts, are just intense b/c of Garnetts intensity. But if you bang him around with a big, and let him hoot fallaways, like the Shaq era, you can contain him. Allen can be shut down with physical play. But the key player for them is Pierce, this guy makes bigbaskets....hes a silent killer.

You have to attack them on offense and get them into foul trouble. Especially Garnett. Gotta get him in foul trouble early.

Still, looking at that schedual, Boston has alot of easy games. I didnt actually think they were going to be a legit threat to challenge that record.

The Celtics will break the 72 win mark if the NBA officials keep giving Paul Pierce an unbelievable amount of favorable calls.

I think eventually, sometime around the All-Star break, Pierce will be getting flagged for more charges. He's already committing 2-3 of these per gamethat are scored as blocking fouls, but the plays are pretty obvious. Pierce is bowling over defenders as he begs for free throw attempts to supplement hisinconsistent shooting.

1. Record should be among the 15-20 losses.

2. Too early to rank em amongst the better teams. I need to see them play against some of the western elites first.

This Celtics team is the closest thing weve seen in tha L since the 99-00 Blazers team the difference being that the Blazers had a real solid bench when uconsider Augmon and Anthony and a very young JO that could hardly get any burn.We know wat happened to that team as stacked as they were they choked in thatgame against the Lakers that tells me that if it happened then it can happen again.

Bostons major weakness is there bench they have some good players but wat happens if 1 of the big 3 gets hurt and then another gets in foul trouble or ejectedwhos gonna carry that squad to a win the playoffs is a whole new ball game tha big 3 will know wat to do theyve all played deep in the playoffs b4 but who elseon the Celtics will be ready when tough slow down halfcourt playoff ball arrives.

They will struggle in the playoffs against any team with good role players over a 7 game series u cant have all the big 3 playin 48 a night u gotta givem thererest, its true everybody will be waiting for them to fall like the Pats that comes with a great record lets just hope they battle hard when times get tough.

I think they will struggle against Orlando aswell as Detroit although there young the Magic roll deep and in a long series that could prove a problem.

Peace
Scottie

I have a feeling that they'll be out trying to prove something all. season. long.

72-10 is awfully tough. But they'll at least want 70 if they get close to it.

agreed

probably around 70 wins and i doubt they will win the championship... they lost to cavs which is damn sad...

The 91-92 Bulls were on pace to beat the 72 Lakers record, but that fell apart. Things happen.

But if the Celts get to 70 wins or better NT will probably be the only place where the team still gets no respect.

I don't care if these guys end up with single digit loses at the end of the season, I just don't see them as a team deep enough to get past the EasternConference finals. They're a good team but not good enough to go all the way.

How can you guys say they can win 60-70 games, but they arent good enough to win it all? Maybe they wont, but that makes no sense, even for an EC team.

boston will tie their all time wins record with a 68-14 record..........this team is pretty good.........i wouldnt be surprised if they do tie or beat thebulls 72 win mark.............the celtics schedule usually gets difficult after the all star break(as it has in past years), but i think they are good enoughand have enough weapons to win.....they are also a much better defensive team..........some people say they have an easy schedule, but hey, you beat what is onyour schedule.............i think doc needs to pull his big 3 when they have huge leads(like in the laker game where he didnt start pulling them until therewas about 3 minutes to go in the game).......but if they are healthy, then they'll be fine..........

1.) They will probably win between 60 and 70 games. It is hard to predict an exact number because even great teams are capable of having a mid season funk anddropping four or five games in a short period of time. Also, if the Celtics clinch home court with a few games to go they might sit their starts down for thelast few games and lose those games.

2.) It doesn't matter how many regular season games they win, they cannot be considered a great team unless they win the Finals. If they win 67 games andand lose in the playoffs, than they are no better than the 2006-2007 Mavericks.

At the start of the season I predicted that the Celtics would win a lot of games but lose in the playoffs. I didn't think that the new roster could gelfast enough to play good team defense, which is essential for winning the Title. Now that they have shown that they can play great team defense, they aremaking a believer out of me. If I had to bet money, I'd still go with the Spurs but the Celtics winning it all is a very real possibility.
