co-sign.
Production on the album is amazing IMO. I like it.

Never downloaded it, but I might now and just slot it under 'unreleased' like a couple other songs.

Ya'll will eat up anything sung by a hot chick. She's AWFUL. She has money and she's attractive. That's it. none of these live performances are good and she's an awful singer. Stop being blinded by style over substance. Or, in this case, promotional dollars, over substance.

She's a decent artist, but I think she busted through because of daddy's money, and the fact that she's a freak.

Lizzy touched it in Miami

I'm still not convinced she can sing forreal, but obviously that doesn't matter too much these days.
She bought a great style and a part she can play. And single apparently:

Doesn't really matter in today's world.
All controversy is good controversy, as long people feel strongly on both sides and keep paying attention to every article about you and performance or song you put out. Welp.

So, after a handful of listens, I think we have the first good album of the year. At least imo. There's a forgettable song, and the only one I dont like is 'This is What Makes Us Girls' due to that PBR line; it just completely throws me off and I cant enjoy anything about the song after it.
The production on this album is top notch, easily what makes the album so listenable. I have no problems with her voice right now, it sounds fine on the record. Not sure if people really do think she's terrible or if they let the outside hate get to them. If there's a real problem with her live singing, I'll just skip whatever shows she has and keep listening to studio recordings.

Standout songs: Off to the Races, Blue Jeans, Video Games, Dark Paradise, Carmen.
Borderline Standouts: Born to Die, Diet Mtn Dew (original was much better)
Solid: Million Dollar Man, National Anthem, Summertime Sadness
Forgettable: Radio
SMH: This is What...

Lol there's been some back and forth on this issue since summer. I feel like she's playing a role, but I ain't mad at her for it....if that's how she wants to market herself, so be it. Everybody has a character that they portray in music/entertainment. Aside from that, I like what I've heard from her so far.
These.

I give credit to her producers, she's good in studio but struggles going that low live. And yeah, like many, it all seems very 'pretend' to me. Good album nonetheless.

Her music is real different its fresh to hear something new with a unique voice

Had never heard of her until she bombed on SNL, decided to youtube her music for some lulz and unexpectedly found that I was really feeling it

Too much hype about whether her persona is authentic/believable and what her background is and all that bull *#++. Like Boys Noize said IDGAF about any of that; is the music good? I don't care if her dad was Bill Gates and she's making songs about being broke. If I like how it sounds I like how it sounds

Yes it can be interesting to see what makes the artist tick and find out what inspired the music etc. But above all the music, like any art, should be able to stand on its own apart from the artist. I don't need to respect an author or know anything about him as an individual to enjoy one of his books, and I don't know the first thing about Christopher Nolan. But I know I enjoy the hell out of his movies. It doesn't have to be authentic to the creator or autobiographical as long as it's well-done.

Anyways, I know the album is getting killed by critics but I'm a big fan. I just like the mood of the album sonically, the production is very textural/evocative even if it is repetitive at times. It has a way of being really grandiose but restrained at the same time if that makes any sense. Her voice isn't spectacular, but it has an interesting quality that draws me in for whatever reason, and it meshes well with the music. Plus as a big fan of Billy Corgan's work I don't let a mediocre/bad voice get in the way of enjoying good songwriting and musical arrangements.

There are a couple skippable tracks but overall it's very solid. I like it enough that I actually coughed up the $8 on iTunes (probably the 4th album I've ever paid for lol).
She doesn't sound great in some of her live performances, but it seems like nerves IMO. Peep this video where she seems socially anxious to even be doing an interview; she was probably SHOOK for the SNL performance.

Ok so i really like the album.  I don't understand why or how it is getting so much hate.  If you liked video games, and born to die, and blue jeans you will like the rest of the album.

In other news.....i have a huge crush on her lol

People need someone new to hate on now that other pop singers aren't in the news as much. Oh well. Still loving this album.

And her Letterman performance was good.

I've been a fan since I first heard Video Games about half a year ago before all the hype/hate.

On first listen, I was ready to send this album to the recycle bin early, with the exception of "Off to the Races" (Best song on the album IMO). As I listened more, I'm starting to like this a bit more. One problem with this album is the face that on a lot of the beats there are cheesy SFX, but you get used to it. My MAIN problem with this album is that her voice gets so annoying on a lot of these tracks. I dunno if she's forcing her voice to go a certain route, or she really sounds like that while singing. Overall it isn't as bad as the review above makes it out to be, but in terms of an overall project it's not that great IMO.
EDIT: Upon further review, this is indeed a great project

. Took a minute to grow on me, but when it did, it was on nonstop. Her voice still gets annoying tho.
