Still extremely upset with Jordan Brand/Nike

I'm 34 and can remember when the II's released with the winged box and the "Made in Italy" tag. I was in high school when the XI's initially released. I remember what they looked liked (because my sister bought them for my nephew). I never got a pair but wanted them badly. However, my mother wasn't about to spend $375 on 3 pair of shoes for school (I had two brothers). I was excited about the release and was looking forward to getting a pair. Unfortunately, things didn't work out. But the funny thing about it is that it really didn't mean matter. When compared to what's really important in my life....wife, daughters, etc....their just another pair of shoes.

But to the matter of the post....The rioting isn't Nikes/JB's fault. It's those who chose to act in a manner that was idiotic and dangerous. Yes, Nike/JB know about the popularity of certain models of shoes and know that they will sell out. That's called good marketing. However, marketing only tempts. The consumer has to act on the temptation. In this latest escalation of violence and disorder people allowed themselves to be tempted to a point where the only thing that mattered where the shoes. Ultimately, the ones to blame are those who chose to act the fool over a pair of shoes. You may not like it but it's real.

Look if anybody wants to make a difference start a preorder petition website/thread and if you get 100,000 ppl and send it to a few news sources then to nike you might have a chance .....otherwise f it I love my shoes way more than a person should and I was heartbroken not to get a pair on rd (I did catch snipes a day later) but they are just shoes and we can live without every single pair that we want. And if you did miss out count ur blessings instead of your losses look at the other heat u got that somebody else missed out on cuz they would appreciate em if u don't. I never had a pair of js until I got to 8th grade and found ways to buy them on my own. By the time I was 16 I had 70 some pairs of nikes/js sz 10.5 or 11 I'm 22 now and wear a size 12 and only have 12 pairs to my name now and appreciate every one more than I appreciated all 70 some pairs I had before

1500 pairs for ALL OF CANADA??!?? I think they could have made a few I don't know.........THOUSAND pairs?? Not mass produced over here at all.... and THAT is unacceptable.....

Hello,
I have to say, after reading all this stuff about the Concords, it's really something overwhelming. I'll begin with some facts:

Fact: These shoes were a general release. Any shoe store who had ever had a decent selection of Jordans got some pairs.

Fact: The employees of the stores ALWAYS buy some of the stock of the shoes before it goes out.

Fact: This release was the worst release ever in every sense of a release, i.e., no organization and no cooperation.

Fact: This release brought out EVERYONE!

OP, you have every right to be upset about this release. However, the masses of people will never be able to gather the intelligence to boycott a product in order to put pressure on the supplier to make a better product. Not in today's world and this present generation of young people.

First, these shoes were a general release. I heard of places still having pairs left over after their midnight release. Also, people shouldn't be upset at the employees for buying the shoes. It's part of the perks of working at a shoe store. If you want those same perks, work at a shoe store. Also, this release probably the worst release ever. Nobody willing to help anyone else on getting a pair. If people got together like they did in the Banned Is release, there wouldn't be so much resentment towards not getting these shoes and more people would have gotten their pair.

Ultimately and unfortunately, this release has brought out a lot of sad truths about Jordan Brand.

Fixed.

I still dont understand why nike and JB cant produce the same amount of retro shoes as they do on their regular brands. Can someone please explain this to me bcuz iy just doesnt make any sense. What about this hype thing? So they are purposely doing this just for the "hype" thing? Cant they just do a mass production for everyone for the same price? More shoes for fans and more money for their pockets.

There were more Black/Gamma XI's than there were Black/Red XI's...

There were more Black/Gamma XI's than any other Jordan Brand shoe during the entire year...

It comes down to supply and demand...

Consumers feel like they NEED the Jordan XI every Christmas...

These were the definition of mass produced and general release...

This thread is ridiculous. The only thing I agreed with was how the quality of shoes has decreased. But even that is not a big deal considering how often I wear my shoes. I have shoes that released 5-10 years ago that still look brand new. Nike/jordan brand is not at fault for what consumers do for their product. The product is not a necessity. It's simply a luxury item. Meaning, it's something you want not need. If anyone is to blame, it's the consumers. We sort of fueled this fire and we'll just have to ride it out until the next new fad comes around. I'm 31 and I miss the days that I was able to walk in to a store, try on a new pair of Jordan's and walk out with a pair. Sadly, Those days are long gone.

I don't blame JB/Nike for how people act when it comes to getting sneakers. Look at people fighting, standing in line for hours, and those looking for profit. Those people are the ones that cause this. Of course we all have our parts in this to an extent but it comes down to how people control themselves when it comes RD. It's not the brand's fault that people have the urge to rush stores and create chaos.

well if that's the case then y dont they just double or triple the production of their best sellers? You said everyone wants a J11 for xmas, and im pretty sure that the people who works at nike and jb knows this. it's like, "I want a banana and nike keeps on giving me tons of apples that I dont need" XD

They did double it... what people have to understand is, there will NEVER BE ENOUGH.

As much as I hate to bump and old post, I feel obligated to make this point...

I know this post was in reference to the Concords a few years back, but the same themes apply to the Gammas, and really, all Christmas XI releases...

At this point, everyone knows the madness that ensues around Christmas XI releases. There's only so much that stores/store managers/mall security/police officers/Nike can do to make things go as smoothly as possible. With that said, certain "collectors" might be better off avoiding the release entirely. There's what...40 retro Jordans released annually? Why not just get the other 39?

Answer is simple...it's because you me him and her HAVE to have these sneakers. HAVE to. So we put ourselves in less than desirable positions to get them.

We all have options...online releases. ebay. resellers. But we CHOOSE to deal with in-store release madness. That's fine. I'm one of those people too. I need my Mikes right now.

But the complaining...the blaming Nike/JB/Michael Jordan...it's irresponsible. The truth is that any other large company would LOVE to have this type of hype around their products. It's capitalism. It's simple. As JM said, doesn't matter how many are produced, there will NEVER be enough.

This will all be over soon I believe. Hype has eclipsed demand if that makes sense.. In other words I'm pretty sure that this go around more people bought to sell than to wear and when they just end up returning them and they lose exclusivity.. It could be a downtrend for Jordan.. Like I really think it could be the end of the (new)Jordan craze and return to the purists. Don't flame me right away.. Wait 30 days till gamma resell prices drop to retail.

And Jordan is exploiting the kids who looked up to him.. I respect him on the court.. Dude looks like a recovering alcoholic in all the Hanes commercial..

JB should just up the quality of material and packaging of the XIs and make the price point higher to weed out all the hype beasts/parents/children and get the serious buyers only.  Also make one per customer and make them preorders in advance (this way everyone can get a pair as Nike will no production #s in adavance) where you have to pay in full, no returns unless there are defects.
This is what I was thinking.. Make to order.. No returns.. Kills the average reseller

Damn that's crazy I remember last year it was said that there were 500,000 pairs of Blk/Red XI's produced.

I wanted to get these, but I'm not jumping through hoops for sneakers I'm not in high school anymore and I have my sights set on other bigger things.

I definitely thought that there were less of these created since they were not an OG colorway and I didn't expect them to be so in demand... I thought wrong!

...and the obligatory "Jordan Brand is declining/dead/end" post...

I believe you're the 10,000th Niketalker to make that claim...0 for 9,999 so far...so, maybe you're the one...

Fingers crossed...

Sometimes you just have to use common sense. JB isn't making anyone buy these shoes fellas.

The only reason why I continue to get these Christmas Jordan XI (Space Jams and Concords, not the Cool Greys cause they are fugly) is because I don't have to truly camp out for them in my area. It's more like a wait outside the store for 2-3 hours an then get them with no more than 30 people in line who for the most part know each other and are really chill.
If I was in a place where I had to camp out for 24 hours plus and I'm still not guaranteed a pair, then I would never do it. I would hope that a connect would come through or find a less hectic place preferably not too far to get the shoes if I really want them.
Two years later, my stance still hasn't changed. I have moved down South, and I refuse to camp out for Christmas XI's. I got the Black/Reds last year, because I won the FL lottery, and I didn't care much about the Gamma Blues this year to even attempt purchasing. They aren't getting me with their Christmas foolishness.

In my defense this is really my first time saying this and based on what I'm seeing I would feel comfortable betting money (hypothetical) that this year Jordan will see a decline in hype.. The only issue will be the low top 11s.. But still I really believe this. I used to trade stocks and study technical analysis if that lends me any credibility as to recognizing trends? Lol I know a stretch but still. Idk I'm transitioning to Adidas for my sporting goods at least.. Maybe I'm biased. But if this year does show a decline I want to be recognized as the 1/10000 haha
