Moving to a different city

Only place in America I'd leave Dallas for is Austin.

Once I hit my retirement number I'm going buy a place in the Ft Lauderdale/Miami area and a spot in Northern Michigan.

It blows my mind when people stay in place with no economic opportunity when there are places with plenty of it this country.

I'm military brat so moving is no big deal to but I have friends from college staying in Michigan and struggling when they could be flourishing down South. Blows my mind.

kind of reminds me of a friend of mine. he's a software developer living in florida, and he makes decent money for someone in their late 20s. he's been at this company for years though, and it seems like there isn't much opportunity for growth there. another friend of ours told him about a position in NYC that would triple his salary, but he isn't even going to do the interview because "he doesn't want to live in NY." the crazy thing is he wouldn't even have to move there permanently, he'd just have to work on location for 6 months and after that he could work remotely from wherever he wants. i guess some people just aren't going to step out of their comfort zone :smh:

Thinking of moving to Vegas in 4-5 months, Stacking up at the moment prob get a apartment till i find a steady job and go cop a house sometime in a year

Bump.

Reading this got me ready to up move somewhere lol
If you don't mind winter (I say that because of how many people here are from California), consider Detroit.  For real.

Cost of living is cheap, and Detroit is going through a revitalization period the last few years.  Tons of new restaurants and shops opening up downtown.  New stadium being built for Red Wings and Pistons downtown.

Get in on the ground floor!

As someone from Michigan that loves Detroit, Cali transplants ain't ready for Detroit just yet

I'm close to NYC so, I'm used to the snow and such. But picking up moving isn't all that easy. I want to move to Vegas or LA.

I moved from Atlanta to NYC/Jersey.

Im originally from Jersey so I has a good support system in place so it's not the same thing but NYC cost of living is trash and I don't plan on staying here. It was fun when I was a kid but now that I've seen what true value for money is NYC is not worth it to me.

Seeing this thread just in time. Been ready to make this move to Houston and get a fresh start. Pittsburgh is a terrible city for black folks and I refuse to waste the rest of my 20s here

Come to Houston bro, the black scene here is plentiful. Let's link up

As wild as this is, I am reluctant to move from DC because I can easily catch the METRO to/from work with no issues. Our train basically goes anywhere you would need to go. I can't say that about any other city that I would WANT to live in.

Phoenix
Seattle
San Diego

I can't stand sitting in traffic man.

Man, I observed so many progressive black folks in my times down there. That **** is so dope to see, especially coming from a city like mine. I need to be around that energy. Couple months and I'm outta here.

Reminds me of what DC USED to be.........

Having a support system where ever you move to is a major key. I don't have any in the places I wanna go

definitely the Cali people.  They don't know **** about cold/snow/winter/grey skies.

But for anyone looking to get in as a city is coming back, for cheap... Detroit is an option.  Gotta be ready for a certain blue collar, griminess though.  I currently live in Denver, but sometimes get the itch to move back to Detroit.

I actually am appreciating living in the DMV since relocating from CA. There is so much to do.

I honestly am not sure if I really want to move back home to CA after realizing how high the taxes are

DC was one of my first choices, it's close to home and my little bro lives there. But I didn't wanna deal with that cost of living
There are some very affordable and accessible Suburbs in this area.
\
Can you name a few? I knew 3-4 folks from around there and their homes were HUGE. (Dumfries and another city)

I wanna work in DC but that traffic. would definitely need to be near a train station.

Manassas, Woodbridge, Centerville, Fairfax, Reston, Sterling, Ashburn.

I believe you can take a train from Manassas/Dumfries area into DC Metro.

But I'm sure, DC has more detailed list on where to look.

I'm good off the big house in Fredericksburg, I'd rather have something decent closer to D.C. But some ppl love it. All about preference.
