JCC didnt even stay tothe body like usual and he had a nice performance.

And it's not like Rubio is some kind of pushover either...

Anyway, JCC Jr. got arrested for drunk driving on the 25th of January and he struggled to make weight again. Dude better shape his $$#% up if he wants to keep it up.

Arum has already been in touch with @HBOboxing to say he'd like to next make Chavez-@AndyLeeBoxing. HBO loves it. Helluva fight. #boxing

Heard at hotel after fight: Don't be shocked if Chavez defends against Margarito. Most will hate it but in a Mexican market it makes $$$$.

what did you guys think of nonito's showboating? he's getting criticized by the philippine media and fans about it, lol

Think that dope WV2 @*@@ talked Nonito's wife and WV2's wife made fun of an entire nation. There's really not much he could have done during or after the fight to make me criticize him
laugh.gif
surprised the Philippine media and his fans are complaining. A fair amount of his fans were tweeting him to kill WV2

yeah, nonito isn't loved in the PI like manny is just because he grew up in america. About 50% of the PI fans and media call his confidence as "cockiness" because he's articulate and knows how to speak english, and talks trash back to his opponents.  They pretty much want him to be "humble" like Manny....   Yet, they'll also say he'll never become Manny...
ohwell.gif
I honestly think he's carried himself pretty well considering all the crap he gets in the media... and He continues to go back to the PI with his wife during his time off.

Yikes, Chavez ain't ready for Margarito if his eye is right. I'd take Margarito even with his bum-#@! eye.

Also, am I late on Nonito Donaire's wife? GOOD LORD,

Personally, I've always loved Nonito from first time I saw him like five years ago. I might be the few that actually like him more than Pacquiao. Although I've grown stale of Manny, because of the outrageous amount of idiotic fans, so I'm a bit biased.

Per ESPN blog:

On Sunday afternoon, I busted Marco Antonio Rubio's chops for insinuating that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. used an illegal PED or PEDs prior to his title defense UD win in San Antonio Saturday night.

I stand by that piece, because Rubio made that implication, in a Boxing Channel interview, based on his feeling that Chavez Jr. was stronger than he thought and had more stamina than the loser thought he should have. However...it now emerges--in stories that ran on Boxing Scene and on Yahoo--that apparently, Chavez didn't provide a customary urine sample post-bout, and Team Rubio says that he fled the arena so he could avoid providing a sample. If that is so, that info, combined with the fact that Junior tested positive for a banned diuretic following his November 2009 fight with Troy Rowland in Las Vegas, makes Rubio's sour grapes a bit less sour. There is a track record here, and even though I maintain that a using a diuretic, while aiding weight loss, isn't in the league of an EPO, Rubio's allegation is more understandable.

We need to know the specific circumstance which went down post-fight. Did the Texas commission drop the ball in not having a rep with a cup handy in the Chavez dressing room? I texted Freddie Roach, Junior's trainer, and asked for a clarification, and will share that if and when I hear back...

wow.

Also convenient how there's really no talk at all about his DUI. Good timing of the release, a lot of distractions to bury the story.

Andy Lee vs JR is a great fight. Arum loves throwing legit contenders names out there with his fighters only to choose someone else. Lol, if what Rubio is saying is true. JR was practically a SMW or LHW the night of the fight and I don't think he will be able to make weight much longer.

They were supposed to make Andy Lee/Jr. for Jr's last fight but they decided he wasn't ready for a southpaw. IDK what about Saturday night changed that

Weekend wrap-up.

Spoiler [+]
Saturday at San Antonio

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. W12 Marco Antonio Rubio
Middleweight
Retains a middleweight title
Scores: 118-110, 116-112, 115-113
Records: Chavez Jr. (45-0-1, 31 KOs); Rubio (53-6-1, 46 KOs)
Rafael's remarks: Yes, we know Chavez has not faced Sergio Martinez, the real champion of the division, even though it has been mandated. Yes Chavez (promoter Top Rank, more precisely) is ducking him. That is obvious. And Top Rank makes no apologies for it and do not expect it to. Why should it? Top Rank is protecting a valuable asset in Chavez. While many of us want to see the fight, the Chavez business is robust without it, so Top Rank has no reason to make it. And don't expect any help from the woeful WBC, which will do anything it has to protect its favorite son.

There are many boxing fans who do not give a damn about seeing Chavez and Martinez. That is why Chavez drew 14,120 fans and a gate of more than $1 million to see him fight Mexican countryman and a longtime contender Rubio to the Alamodome, a big-time arena that was nearly sold out for what it was scaled for. There are not many other fighters that can sell seven figures in tickets in the United States. Chavez is one of them, Martinez fight or not. Chavez, 25 and the son of Mexico's greatest fighter, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr., was the star of the show and can keep on fighting whomever he wants as long as the fans turn out. He and his team are not concerned about Martinez, a terrific fighter who probably would torture Chavez if they meet but he is not a fighter remotely close to the level of Chavez's drawing power. Whether Chavez fights Martinez or not, he makes entertaining fights and has an emotional connection with his ardent supporters, who do not seem concerned that he had to lose eight pounds in the final two days as he struggled to make weight. They also do not seem to care that just two weeks before the fight, Chavez was not exactly engaged in quality training one Saturday night when he was arrested in Los Angeles in the middle of the night on a drunk driving charge (with a hearing scheduled for March 16).

Despite the turmoil of the arrest and the weight problems, Chavez did make the weight and then blew up to 181 pounds for the actual bout (10 more than Rubio) and proceeded to dominate in his second title defense. The size difference was a big problem for Rubio, 31, who said so after the fight. He saw his 10-fight winning streak come to an end. He had not lost since being stopped in the ninth round by then champion Kelly Pavlik in 2009. Chavez never came close to stopping Rubio, but they did engage in a rough, tough fight. It was not the prettiest fight, but there was a lot of heavy body punching and plenty of brutal inside fighting. Chavez clearly dominated the early rounds, Rubio did some fine work in the middle rounds when Chavez began to tire, but he found a second wind and took it to Rubio (who came into the fight with a banged up hand) down the stretch, including in the tremendous 11th and 12th rounds.

Almost immediately after the fight Top Rank began to talk about the next fight for Chavez, and it is not Martinez. Top Rank's Bob Arum was already talking to HBO about his desire to match Chavez with Andy Lee, who is promoted by Lou DiBella. That fight had been discussed previously, but Top Rank wound up going in another direction because it did not want to match Chavez with a southpaw. Those concerns seem to be gone. There is also the chance we could see Chavez face -- please, do not shoot the messenger -- former welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito, who was last seen having his eye smashed up by junior middleweight titlist Miguel Cotto in December.

Nonito Donaire W12 Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
Junior featherweight
Wins a vacant junior featherweight title
Scores: 117-110 (twice) Donaire, 115-112 Vazquez
Records: Donaire (28-1, 18 KOs); Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KOs)
Rafael's remarks: One of boxing's pound-for-pound best, Donaire's stated goal has been to win titles from flyweight to junior lightweight and he is now in the midst of doing it after claiming a title in a third division (and fourth if you count his interim belt at junior bantamweight) as he made his junior featherweight debut and clearly outpointed former titlist Vazquez -- despite the inept card rendered by judge Ruben Garcia that had Vazquez ahead. Even Vazquez, 27, of Puerto Rico and the son of former three-division titleholder Wilfredo Vazquez Sr., did not quarrel with the fact that he lost fair and square.

Despite Donaire's dominance, the 29-year-old "Filipino Flash" did not have his best night. Donaire injured his left hand (he said somewhere between the second and fourth rounds) so badly that when his glove was cut off after the fight his hand was socked in blood. Even though the hand was hurt, he continued to use. There was great action in the third round as they fired at each other during fierce exchanges. Donaire, the fight seemingly in hand, had his biggest moment in the ninth round when he scored a knockdown that came from pair of left hands, which were hurt even worse after the sequence of punches.

Vazquez, a sizeable underdog, did not just show up to be a game loser. He fought with everything he had and made Donaire work for the victory in a crowd-pleasing scrap. Vazquez was aiming to reclaim the belt he lost to Jorge Arce by 12th-round knockout last May on the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley undercard. After one win in his return, Vazquez got the shot at the belt because Arce relinquished it. But it was not to be as Donaire busted him up, got the decision and set himself up for major business going forward. The health of his hand will depend on the exact schedule, but Top Rank and manager Cameron Dunkin hope he can fight four times this year

If he's adding 20 plus pounds rehydrating, that to me means he was weight drained. IMO stamina is the first thing that goes when you're weight drained.

We all knew this would happen when Tim signed with Top Rank.

The WBC is a joke. So you forget to test Jr at the end of the fight, and then Sulaiman just claims they forgot.

Shoutout to Chavez Jr. for not taking that post-urine test WBC you're better than that.

Manny and Tim Bradley is a joke, I wonder what clauses Manny and Bob Arum have cooked up for Tim Bradley.

Manny vs Timmy....not paying to see that ever.  Enjoy getting headbutted manny
I don't really have a real reason....but i hate JCC jr.  Not sure what to think about the PED rumors....but him vs andy lee....ehh i will watch if its on HBO probably.

Props to Donaire.  Regardless of him looking less then perfect in the fight.  Did you see his hand afterward?  That thing did not look pretty.  Dude fought the whole fight (basically) with that.

I think its because he has had a silver spoon treatment.  He is a good boxer but i think everyone knows Sergio is the rightful champ of the division.  He gets a lot of praise from all the Mexican fans but i feel like it is just because his father is a legend.  I think i will stop hating him and gain some respect for him when he actually fights a contender.  But i am also pretty bias because i do love sergio.
