Small weddings, big weddings, why?

I proposed on my bday in September and we're getting married next October - glad to have stumbled on this thread and see my fellow brethren discussing this @&$!

We're having a 250 person wedding in North Jersey (we live in NYC) and I moreso put my fiancé in the driver seat since it's really all about her. With that said, I took charge on the 3 things I cared about the most:

- Venue (Preakness Hills Country Club)
- Band (12 piece)
- Hotel (Sheraton Parsippany)

Within a month I was able to book those big ticket items and we're already at $80k with the florist and photographer being the other major budgetary items left to book. I'll leave that to her and her moms to hash out - I just wanna know what that bill looking like. All in all we budgeted $120k, which seems excessive but in the grand scheme of things, both her squad and mine turn up hard and thinking it as a big ***** party for everyone. Not to mention, I'll make a lot of that back thru wedding gifts.

Currently figuring out the batchelor party: DR, Cartagena, or Costa Rica but that'll be easy since we're aiming for July/August (gonna be hot as hell tho).

Dope, sir. I'm in the same area and got married at The Estate at Florentine Gardens and had roughly the same amount of people. We planned for 250, but there ended up being 257 or something silly like that since some fam came without RSVP'ing and some brought kids, even though it said no kids on the invite  My bachelor party ended up being in Toronto and we were able to knock out a dope road trip out of it too.

I think all in all, it was definitely near $90K for me with honeymoon included but you're right, you do get a nice chunk back so it's not like you're in the hole for all of that money and there's no better feeling than 250+ people saying that was the best wedding they've ever been to in their lives :nthat:

Small intimate wedding and the keep it moving

"Keep it moving" is something you do when you get a cup of coffee or at the DMV. Put some repeck on your damn wedding day with you wife  Having an intimate wedding doesn't always mean it has to be small, either. If you have an official Maitre d' who knows what they're doing, they'll make you two feel like the only two people in the place place all night.

I'm the child of Indian immigrants and the oldest. I don't even have a choice. It would literally destroy my parents if I decided to have a small wedding. I'm not even exaggerating. They will be helping financially when the time comes of course. Bums me out honestly. I'd much rather use that generosity to buy another property or something.

The Estate is dope - well done, sir.

It was in our top 5 but 1) they didn't have the dates we were considering and 2) I loved the outdoor/indoor dynamic of Preakness Hills a bit more.

The ceremony is on the 10th hole and then the cocktail hour on their outdoor terrace. We're also gonna keep the terrace accessible throughout the reception so people can go out and take a break or grab a drink at the bar out there.

We had a huge wedding...**** was out of our hands. I was just there.

Where was your wedding? I know that shhh had to be lit

We had ours at Jericho Terrace in Mineola. My wife's fam is from Morocco/Algeria...my side is from all over. No one on her side of the fam drank, but mine made up for it

Also...I gotta give u and the future Mrs. congrats bro :pimp:

Anyone ever see someone get cut-off from the bar at a wedding? The bartender didn't want to give my friend anymore drinks. Even tried to bribe him with $100.

Can a bartender at a place you rented out, do that? I guess for liability reasons...

*shrugs*

One of my groomsmen passed out before dinner was served and his GF had to take him home. We were one short for a few of the pics

Skip ahead a few years later to his wedding...he got so hammered that he passed out again before dinner was served. His wife ate alone at the table  :smh:

Dude was on the phone w/ 1800 Flowers before the end of the night.

That's the kind of nonsense you have to weed out when choosing your guests, I suppose :smh:

But to answer your question, I've never seen a level of sadness like that before

Wow at a groom passing out at his own reception. Entertaining but I wouldn't laugh near the bride.

Damn I don't even know 250-300 people . Well I wouldn't say I don't know, idc about that many people. Outside of family I only really mess with a very select few, same with her. We tried to come up with 100 names combined we would want at a wedding and stuggled.

Once family's involved, you get there pretty fast. You figure that's 125 people, each for you and your girl. We reached that limit quick and had to chop some people off.

Neither of our parents had a say in our wedding. It was our day, not theirs. I guess it was easy for me to do that when I'm paying for it though. lots of family members Caught feelings about how we had it in Mexico at adults only resort, but that's what WE wanted to. I'm closer with friends than most family members anyway. Too much **** talking and gossip for me with my relatives.

Yea see, we both have big families but 70% of both sides aren't invited. I'm not paying for people we don't talk to to share that special day. Got a lot of low life's in there also, closer with my friends than most family.

sounds just like us.

The one thing that did suck with the destination wedding is that some people just can't afford to come. There were a few people I wish were there that couldn't afford it which was a bummer. If I could have I would have paid for them, but I don't have it like that.

My wife's best friend had a destination wedding in Jamaica. My wife was maid-of-honor, so every minute of her time in the country was planned out. Me, on the other hand, nothing but freedom....got darker than midnight with all the sun I got

Every time my wife saw me, she'd :smh: out of jealousy

An hour before we had to leave to go to the airport, she's on the beach at 8am lathered up in olive oil trying to get SOME sort of tan before she went back stateside  To this day, we still laugh about it.

I can respect that. I suppose we were lucky enough to not have that kind of mentality with any of our family members. I don't also talk to them all, all the time, but we did appreciate the time and money they took to fly out from the Philippines, Greece, Hawaii, Cali, Florida, etc all the way to NJ just to share me and my wife's big day, so we also did our best to accommodate everybody.

Add the end of the day, your wedding is you and your wife's big day and if you invite people who's vibes aren't going to be suitable for that kind of special event, it definitely is best to leave them out.

reading some of yall stories...

me an my girl aint never getting married if there aint some kind of understanding.

Family + family friends is accounting for 45 of the 250 we have (no kids allowed as well). I'm most definitely closer with my friends than I am with family.

I actually had to cut the guest list from 300 to 250 because you start to lose the intimacy of the wedding if it's that big.

Any of y'all have people actually ask if they were being invited to the wedding? I've had a fair of share of people ask that, most who WEREN'T getting an invite. That shhh is rude as hell.

I'd have my joint as a destination wedding too in like Jamaica but the "broke boys" already would be crying about ticket and hotel prices . Dudes ain't never step outside they boroughs and don't never want to spend money.

300 people isn't intimate enough, but 250 is?
 trust me, that extra 50 people makes a difference.

I went to 8 weddings this year, ranging from 125 - 300 guests so I got a good sense of what number felt like too much and what's just right for us.

We're planning on doing destination with immediate family and that's it. Then spend dough on the honeymoon.

I'm not spending $50k for some mediocre wedding.
