Houston Texans Pre-Season 2014 - NT Bowl 2.5...Battle For Roster Spots

Brooks Reed sitting out game against Colts

Despite saying all week he was on track to play, Texans outside linebacker Brooks Reed is inactive for today’s game.

Reed suffered a torn groin against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving and missed three games recovering from the injury. He returned last week against the Minnesota Vikings, but he only played for half of the game. Both Reed and Texans coach Gary Kubiak said his snaps were limited intentionally, not because he had a setback. He said he was removed from the game to avoid a setback.

During the week, Kubiak even said Reed could play more this week than he did last weekend.

Reed’s initial prognosis was that the injury would take anywhere from three to six weeks to fully heal.

Cornerbacks Alan Ball and Stanford Routt, offensive linemen Andrew Gardner, Cody White and Antoine Caldwell, and defensive tackle Terrell McClain are also inactive for the Texans.

There's no way we can back into the playoffs and expect a Superbowl run. That Superbowl run HAS to start with a win today no matter what.

terrible end to the regular season. not playing our best ball whatsoever. one play that bothered me was throwing a screen on 3rd and long, when they only rushed 3. if they aren't sending anyone, why run the screen which is the play you use to negate a big rush. i believe we play cincy next week, who i think we match up well with.

Such a bad loss. We picked the wrong time to lose this year. Haven't seen many Cincy games this year, but I feel better having to immediately play them or the Ravens than anybody else. The offense started to wake up, but there were alarming things on both sides of the ball. I won't even get started on that awful call early in the game, but that busted coverage play to TY and that straight up the middle KR were embarrassing plays. The 1st was nearly the exact play at Reliant. Watt was still playing, but hated that he didn't get the record. Of course we also had our usual penalties, but some were just bad calls.

Schaub's play :rolleyes 275 yards, 2 INTs, and nothing else. I'd give Yates some 1st team reps just to send a message to him.

Their defensive line or front 7 was nothing write home about. Not being to score touchdowns is alarming.

Cincys offense hasn't been overwhelming lately, Tex has to get pressure and turnovers, both which I think they can do. But on the same front, they have to contain Cincys dline and run the ball to keep them from just pass rushing

After that Baltimore game this team just hasn't looked the same. This whole season just feels like a disappointment already.
I'm absolutely pissed at the way they've played, how can any Texan fan be hopeful? They've come out flat, again and again.
Home-field advantage was ours, and now we might beat Cinncy but they'll probably get slapped on the road.
Hopefully the Texans manage their cap situation better in the future to avoid losing several key starters.

:smh: :smh:

Well beat cincy but have to go to TB12 which is going to be tough :smh:

City of Houston is on suicide watch. People are already talking about replacing Schaub with Smith or Vick

The thing is, Bob McNair doesn't give a damn what the fans think. Kubiak and Schaub will be here for a while. They would have to get killed by the Bengals for any major changes.

listening to 790?

^That sounds like something I'd hear on 610 instead of 790. 610 goes ape**** over anything and bummy *** McClain with his company lines run rampart on there. 790 is more level-headed and has less homerism. Vick and Smith though? I'd rather roll with Yates. Some dummy on FB was like "Man we need to call my boy Vince Young". I told him he'd under throw the WRs worse than Schaub.

Oh yea the callers on both stations are brutal  It's almost like they don't actually watch the games, but they just catch box scores and hearsay and roll with it.

I was listening to 790 earlier.

And some callers are just dumb as ****. The stuff I hear sometimes is unbelievable.

Darryl Sharpton placed on injured reserve with hip problem

Because it was a Tuesday, Gary Kubiak wasn’t required to divulge the Texans’ injury situation under NFL rules, so he didn’t after practice – except to lament the loss of yet another linebacker, Darryl Sharpton.

Sharpton went on injured reserve Tuesday with a hip problem that surfaced after the Minnesota game, which Kubiak said was his best showing of the season.

“He’s had some tough injuries,” Kubiak said of the third-year linebacker, who sat out for almost a full season with a torn quad tendon before returning about mid-year. “He’s a fine young player. His health is the only thing that’s held him back.”

Tim Dobbins, who has had his share of health issues himself, replaces Sharpton with Barrett Rudd becoming the top substitute at inside linebacker. The Texans re-signed Mister Alexander to replace Sharpton, Kubiak said, “because he knows our system and can help on special teams.”

Kubiak had kind words for his linebackers coach, Reggie Harding, who has had to cope with more than his fair share of injuries.

Reggie’s had his hands full since (Brian Cushing) went out and it’s a bit of a revolving door again this week,” Kubiak said. “But he’s done a great job with those guys.”

Yea....Sharpton will probably not be on the team next year

The Texans' linebackers :x

And it gets better...

Texans place Tim Dobbins on injured reserve

Today the Texans placed yet another inside linebacker on injured reserve.

Tim Dobbins began starting after Brian Cushing tore his ACL, and later shared duties with Darryl Sharpton, who started the season on the physically unable to perform list and is now on injured reserve as well. Dobbins was placed on injured reserve today with an ankle injury.

Inside linebacker Barrett Ruud is likely to start in place of Dobbins.

To fill Dobbins’ roster spot, the Texans activated Cameron Collins from the practice squad. Collins will wear number 49 tomorrow against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Texans also have young linebacker Mister Alexander on the roster. Alexander started the season with the Texans and was released midseason. The Texans re-signed him this week after placing Sharpton on injured reserve on Tuesday.

If the Bengals have any sense Jermaine Gresham will get the ball all day

I expect the Texans to win, but I'm still dissapointed we even had to play today.

The o line has to project Schaub, and d line needs to get after Dalton quick, and get off the field on 3rd downs. Definitely need impactful plays from the defense to pretty much set up the offense (which i hate). Opening the playbook on offense would be nice too.
