Houston Texans Pre-Season 2014 - NT Bowl 2.5...Battle For Roster Spots

Cushing :pimp:

Brian Cushing has taken another step in his comeback.

The Houston Texans linebacker joined teammates in 7-on-7 drills for the first time Thursday. Cushing continues to make good progress in his recovery from surgery to repair a torn ACL.

Cushing -- one of the game's preeminent inside linebackers -- immediately made his presence felt, batting down the first pass thrown in his direction.

"It felt great," Cushing said, via the Houston Chronicle. "I've been telling guys, this is the right feeling. I'm playing football, making plays again. It was a long offseason, but I've got no worries now, no residual effects. No pain. I can plant and cut. Everything feels normal again."

This is great news for a Texans defense that struggled to fill the void left by Cushing after he went down in October. There's not a lot of depth at inside linebacker in Houston -- as the recent Joe Mays signing illuminated -- making Cushing's return to 100 percent even more important.

Reading nothing but goin things about Hopkins, definitely should be a day 1 impact guy.

Case overtaking TJ for the backup QB spot? :nerd:

Cierre Wood & Dennis Johnson putting heat on Ben Tate? :nerd:

Healthy Cush :pimp: healthy JJo :pimp: less Shiloh Keo :pimp: :pimp:

Keenum does have a lot of fans (Kube being one of the biggest), but Yates seems like he's not giving up his spot that easily. It does look like they will keep 3 QBs on the roster, which I'm all for. Have heard good things about Cierre & Dennis Johnson too, but Tate very well knows this is a contract year, and that he has to produce (both for himself and the Texans). We need that 2011 Tate back to help out Foster.

Unfortunately Lestar Jean is this time underperforming in camp unlike in the past. This very well could be his last season with the Texans if he doesn't consistently show something during the season. Those handful of big catches he had last year need to be normal plays for the team.

Before every season starts, I always watch random highlights to get even more hype than I already am. Also sucks though seeing impact player we had leave or get traded. But oh well, the season's almost here :pimp: :pimp:

Forget Ben Tate in a contract year he's not coming back next year anyway.

Now Kareem Jackson in a contract year?! :wow: Go & get ya money lil duffel bag boy... /Wayne

Yep, and that's their priority going forward. They're much more likely to resign Cushing and extend Watt before making moves with Tate and Kareem. Kareem should definitely be resigned as well though. I cant do another throwing a rookie CB to the wolves thing again.

DeAndre Hopkins’ daily dose of magical catches making believers

Posted on August 4, 2013 at 11:34 am by Dale Robertson

Rookie receiver DeAndre Hopkins had a remarkable first week of training camp, making already high expectations for the Texans’ No. 1 draft pick even higher.

“Foreshadowing,” Kubiak called what Hopkins has done in his pro debut. We have snuck a peak into the Texans’ future, and it belongs to D-Hop.

“Oh, man, I haven’t seen a young receiver like him before,” Pro Bowl left tackle Duane Brown admitted. “I don’t get to watch what he’s doing that close in practice, but now we’ve got our new iPads so I can go back and see the one-on-one reps. It’s amazing. When a ball is thrown, put your money on DeAndre.”

“I don’t want to compare him to anybody, but you could say he reminds me of a young Larry Fitzgerald with his hand-eye coordination and that kind of focus, getting to the ball at his highest point. He’s going to be a huge weapon.”

Hopkins doesn’t feign modesty. He knows his capabilities. He’s also disinclined to compare himself to anybody, explaining: “I feel like I’m my own special wide receiver. I feel like I can do different things that some other guys can’t. There are a lot of great receivers in the NFL, but I would put myself in my own category.”

Well, based on what I heard on the radio, Keenum is slowly curving Yates out of the 2nd spot after two sloppy *** days from Yates

Man I told y'all, I bee seeing these things.

Hopefully this will curb the "Yates should start" crowd.

:frown: I still believe in Yates.......as a solid backup.

1st preseason game folks :pimp: 20 vets ate sitting out mostly either to precaution or injury. I'm looking forward to seeing Hopkins, Dennis Johnson and most of the defense get good snaps. Same for Tate, Yates, Jean, and special teams. We were brutal last year, made even worse after Holliday and Jacoby's success elsewhere. Jean needs to either get things done as a 3rd or 4th WR, or be prepared to be somewhere else next year. Special teams should start getting it together now so we don't have so many what-ifs during the season. I prefer Manning to be doing the KR once the season starts, cause he naturally does, and I think would provide consistency. Everytome he's out there, he produces, yet we've only had him out there the first game of 2011, some random game, and vs the Pats in the playoffs. It makes too much sense.

And ConservaKub should put the effort in right now not to be conservative so it doesn't affect the regular season.

Man, get Jeff Maehl off this team. I don't even know why they've kept him around so long

Was good to see a lot of quality play from the guys who you wanted to see it from. Hopkins' slick vet move and catch on the DB was really something to look forward to. Jean showed both why he deserves to be in the rotation, and why he should be cut. He has to makes all catches, and not have lapses in judgment. All the running backs showed something, and even though Dennis is the frontrunner, Wood and Karim left a good mark too.

Willie Johnson seems like an animal, and Earl Mitchell's burst on a few plays was great to see as the starting NT. He's always had very unexpected speed for his size, so I want to see how he holds up for long periods.

Keenum is pushing the hell out of Yates, and looks very comfortable out there. The DBs made plays and the line had very good pressure most of the game, but they also were in midseason vs Pats form on some of those plays. I dig Pleasant and Bouye though regardless.

Nuk is that dude. If thing play out the way they should, y'all will be real happy with him. I won't say I'm a "fan" but the Texans will probably be the team I pay attention to the most after the Giants. Good luck.

And just like that, Jeff Maehl is gone  Texans traded him to Philly to reunite with Chip Kelly, and we got OL Nate Menkin. Now Maehl can drop passes from Vick.

Don't believe it. Gary would have wanted another Aggie in return.
