Naw, first play of the game......wait for it......

KC kicks off about 5 yards into the endzone, Martin, instead of kneeling it, takes it out, and gets stopped at the 14 yards line. :x

But what's new, that's probably scripted as well.

Made a Case Keenum mix of preseason highlights for my fellow Texan fans. Tried to make it deep lol

Debbie Phillips: Bum in ‘ greenest pastures … laughing joyfully’

Debbie Phillips has submitted the following entry on the Facebook page of Bum Phillips Charities in memory of the late coach:

“Beloved, Bum has been ill a long, long time. We were praying for God to take him home and perform the greatest healing of all. He answered our prayers last night and took Bum to the greenest pastures where he is riding a handsome grey horse and laughing joyfully with all of his loved ones who have gone on before him.

“Bum would want you to know that he loved you and always told everyone that anyone you love never dies because you have them in your heart always. May God bless you all.”

Five questions entering Week 7 Texans-Chiefs matchup

20131018_TexansKeenum_BTC_01-306x497.jpg

1. Can quarterback
Case Keenum, starting his first game, possibly play well enough to help the Texans end their losing streak and upset the undefeated Chiefs?

Let’s be honest: Do you believe in miracles? Most Texans fans are fired up about the change at quarterback because Keenum is the local hero who has mobility. He played well in preseason, but that was preseason. This is the real deal in one of the most hostile environments in the NFL — Arrowhead Stadium, the Sea of Red. Yes, the Texans are capable of winning, but they’d have to play better in every area to make this a football fairy tale of epic proportions. Keenum hasn’t played since the bowl after his senior year. He was undrafted. He’s been inactive for every game. He’s on an offense that can’t score touchdowns in the red zone and commits too many penalties.

2. Why did Gary Kubiak go with Case Keenum over T.J. Yates?

They both played well in preseason when they were supposed to be competing for the backup job behind Matt Schaub. Yates was thrust into difficult situations in the past two games, but he didn’t distinguish himself. He was terrible in the loss to the Rams, throwing two interceptions in the red zone, including a pick-six. When Yates was forced into the lineup as a rookie, his teammates rallied around him. Kubiak is hoping for a similar reaction. The difference is that Yates’ first start was at home. Keenum is starting at Arrowhead Stadium, where the fans will be hysterical because their team is 6-0. Keenum is more mobile than Yates. Keenum hasn’t played, so he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. That can be good in a situation like this.

3. The Texans will lose, of course, but what has to happen for them to at least make it respectable, unlike the last two lopsided losses to San Francisco and St. Louis?

First, players have to eliminate or reduce the foolish penalties that have come at the worst times. They have to be disciplined on both sides of the ball and carry out their assignments instead of forgetting what their assignment is and trying to make big plays. The running game is working well. The receivers have to avoid drops. The linemen must pass protect better. And the defensive players have to play better in the red zone. They couldn’t be much worse. And it would help if the defense forced a few turnovers. A couple in the Chiefs’ end of the field would be nice for Keenum, too.

4. Speaking of the defense, how can the Texans be so good when it comes to yards and passing yards allowed but so bad when it comes to forcing turnovers and the red zone?

Wade Phillips would love to know
the answer to that question.
No opponent has gained
more than 284 yards. No quarterback has thrown for 200 yards. The Chiefs don’t have a prolific passing attack, so Alex Smith might be the seventh consecutive quarterback to not throw for 200 yards. But the Texans are last in allowing red-zone touchdowns and next to last in forcing turnovers. They have three, including none in four games. Turnovers tend to come in bunches, and this would be the perfect time to force some.

5. What’s the best
way for a defense to force turnovers?

It starts with the pass rush. The pass rushers need to get to the quarterback. If they can’t hit him and force fumbles, they can disrupt his timing with his receivers, which leads to errant throws that can be intercepted. Having a lead in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter, helps because the quarterback has
to throw. The pass rushers don’t have to worry about the run, and they can tee off on
the quarterbacks. The Texans have 14 sacks. They’re on a pace for 37, which is seven fewer than each of the last
two seasons. J.J. Watt has 3 1/2. He’s on a pace for 9 1/2 after getting 20 1/2 last season. Watt and Whitney Mercilus (4 1/2) are the best pass rushers. They need more production from Antonio Smith and Brooks Reed.

Such a bogus personal foul as Crick was blocked into Smith, but can't have blown coverage either.

|I season over now? Looks like it. I just hope Case continues to start, he looked good out there. Teams are going to keep blitzing him though until he starts to pick them up. HIs blitz recognition will get better with more experience.

- # 75 for the Houston Texans should never start again, ever.
-Texans run defense is AWFUL, really undisciplined out there. That's as much on coaching as it is on the players.
- I feel awful for Cush man, just awful
- The special teams

Cush :frown:
O line sucked.
I loved what I saw from case.
Kubiak play calling at the end of the half was abysmal. Wasted so much god damn time

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?! He literally went into conservative mode then said, " maybe we should try to get a field goal here".
Not to mention the mismanagement of the time outs in the second half.

2-5....wow....didn't see this coming at all, especially 5 losses in a row. This bye week couldn't come at a better time. I cringed everytime a 3rd down conversion was made, and them over-pursuing the run. And this is something consistent everyweek, having a RB stopped, and taking wrong angles to tackle them.

Liked what I saw from Keenum, and even though near the end of the game he took some sacks and fumbled, I fully put that on how awful Derek Newton is. This was probably his worst game, and it's time to get rid of him. And because of that pressure, the passing to the WRs dipped. Should've gotten that TD instead of a FG on goal line, but I also forgot about the pass that Graham dropped at the beginning of the game. Critical plays right there, especially knowing the end result of a 17-16 game.

Another thing to add. When Ed Reed was signed, I didn't expect him to be 2003 or 2005 Ed Reed, I mostly expected him just to play pretty good, but make the other DBs around him better just through sheer experience, pretty much being a coach on the field....but he seems not to even be doing that. I bought an Ed Reed shirt about a month ago, and haven't worn it yet. At this point, I'd do better wearing a Keo shirt til further notice.

Ya'll have already heard it, but it's official...

Cushing.injury.png

Brian Cushing is done for the season. The Texans linebacker broke his leg and suffered a torn LCL against Kansas City on Sunday, according to NFL.com. Cushing was carted off the field and taken to the Texans locker room after injuring his leg in the third quarter.

Cushing was rushing Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith when he was hit by a low block from Kansas City running back Jamaal Charles. The low blow sent Cushing immediately to the ground where he was grabbing his left leg. You can see a GIF of the injury here, but you may not want to click if you're faint of heart -- or if you're eating.

This is the second year in a row that Cushing's season has ended early. The fifth-year linebacker missed almost all of last season after tearing the ACL in his left knee in Week 5. That injury sidelined Cushing for nine months.

Losing Cushing will be a blow to the top ranked Texans defense. Going into Sunday's game against Kansas City, Cushing was third on the team in sacks (1.5), tied for first in interceptions (1) and the team-leader in tackles (44).

Same leg, my favorite defensive player on the team as well...when it rain it pours fellas.

Those 3rd and +6ish that the Chiefs were converting were making me sick, terrible angles and tackling. At this point, Ed Reed is just here to collect a paycheck. Our LB'ers are in serious trouble out there without Cush and hopefully with Cush out, Brooks Reed can show the promise he had in the past.

Offensively, it was a change of pace and nice to watch Case play. Showed good poise and pocket presence the first half with the stepping up into the pocket and extending plays. He ACTUALLY hit players in stride and we got some YAC, which we usually never see with he who shall not be names. Graham dropped a big one on the first drive :smh: which would have gave us a TD instead of a FG, hit him in both hands. Only gripe I had was it was back to Conserbuiak with a minute left in the 2nd quarter. Could have gotten a FG there.

But the 2nd half was what we usually saw from Kubiak. No adjustments made, was content with being in the game, and went to his conservative play calling, with his usual bad time management skills which left us with 0 TO's. KC adjusted and had 5 sacks in the 2nd half compared to 0 in the first half, while we did nothing and went empty backfield when they were clearly blitzing. Kubiak is part of the problem IMO, but with the Indy win, we have to start Case from here on out and see what we need to do in the draft because that win against Denver basically knocked us out of contention for the AFC South.

For a first time, non-drafted QB Case looked good and like he belonged, especially on the road at one of the hardest stadiums to play at with a Defense like KC's. Having Foster out didn't help either, he basically lost his safety net on plays when Foster went out. No OD, no Foster and he still did work.

Manning, then Luck, life's just not fair.

Wishing injuries on players is classless. Dude didn't do anything malicious to earn that

I never wished injury on Cush I just don't feel sorry for him .

Is there any reason Joe Marciano is still here? Naked pics of Kub? I'm hearing that he's the one who made to call for Cierre Wood to be listed inactive, because "he's not very good on special teams". So basically, Marciano's poor special teams coaching affected the offense do to depth. Should've Lane Kiffin'd him and fired him before he left Arrowhead Stadium.
