The Texans also extend the contract of snapper Jon Weeks. His four-year deal is for $2.9 million and includes a $255,000 signing bonus. - chron.com

Texans Punter Hartmann Suspended

Houston Texans punter Brett Hartmann has been suspended by the NFL for four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.
Hartmann served one of those games during the playoffs and he still has three more games to serve during the 2012 season. Hartmann finished last season on injured
reserve after suffering a knee injury.

The NFL issued the following statement on Friday:

"Brett Hartmann of the Houston Texans has been suspended without pay for four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances.

Hartmann, whose suspension started with the team's Divisional Playoff game, will be eligible to return to the Texans' active roster on the day after the team's

third regular-season game of the 2012 season.
"Hartmann is eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games."

Bye bye Eric Winston, overall at first I was like +%+ but it made sense, he made too much money, cared about the media too much, and basically did not perform up to his and the team's standards for his salary. I feel like if he didn't take a significant pay cut, he might be cut and that's what happened. Hopefully this means Meyers, Brisiel, and Mario come back.

And I think R. Butler won't be that bad, he filled in nicely for Brown during his suspension.

Also, the confirmed cuts so far are Winston and Leinart, but supposedly there is news of J. Jones and D. Ryans being but.

I'm all for Jones being cut but man, Demeco is one of the leaders of this team and he was playing alot better towards the end of the year and gaining confidence from his injury. I would hate to lose him, I hope he can restructure his deal and I hope he stays. Him and AJ were who I always saw as lifelong Texans.

^unless we sign another QB, Yates is pretty much Schaubs Backup?Next year Schaub will be a free agent and unless we resign him (probably will) Or get another QB ! yates will be are starter. Does anyone think he can be ready for this year and possibly start next year? I think if he can improve on not making mistakes and being better in the pocket and be more efficient when passing long , he could be are next QB.

Jacoby and DeMeco next?

Brisiel & Myers should be resigned. Sucks that Winston had to go, but this past season, most of the time our QB(s) were getting
hit, they were hit cause of Winston. Add on the high salary, you have someone who needed to go.

They better not cut Demeco, cause he's a leader, and if it weren't for him, Cushing wouldn't even know where to be on the field.
Leinert was expected. Jacoby, you better be next.

Man i was so pissed when we drafted

Okoye

T.Johnson

Babin

and Kareem Jackson

i didnt want any of those guys and look how they all turned out (i mean Reem is still young but dude needs to step up)

***EDIT: HOUSTON — The Houston Texans have re-signed free agent safety Quintin Demps.

The 5-foot-11, 206-pound Demps had a career year with Houston last season with 22 tackles, two interceptions and two passes defended in nine games. He also returned five kickoffs for 169 yards (33.8 average), including a 50-yarder against Carolina, the longest by a Texans player last season.

I was hoping they re-signed him. He did some good for us last year after Manning went down, and once he came back.

Houston Texans sign LB Bradie James; re-sign LB Tim Dobbins

The Texans signed free-agent inside linebacker Bradie James and re-signed linebacker Tim Dobbins, the Houston Chronicle reported Thursday.

James spent his entire nine-year NFL career in Dallas and started every game from 2005 to 2010. He played for defensive coordinator Wade Phillips
when he was the Cowboys' coach from 2007 to 2010.

According to the Chronicle, James is expected to compete with Darryl Sharpton for the starting weakside linebacker job that's available after

DeMeco Ryans was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. Sharpton is recovering from season-ending surgery for a torn quad muscle, but is expected to

be 100 percent by the start of training camp.

Dobbins, 29, spent last season with the Texans. He backed up Brian Cushing and led the team with nine special teams tackles.

By signing James and re-signing Dobbins, finding an inside linebacker in the draft won’t be a priority, according to the Chronicle. The Texans are expected to

use a high draft choice on an outside linebacker, and may take an inside linebacker with a lower pick.

also question.

Do you think we have a future with Yates as our QB of the future?

Dont get me wrong, #8 does work and i think hes one of the most underrated QBs in the L, but he is 30 and is in the last year of his contract, considering Yates got burn last year and didnt look that bad at all for a 3rd string rookie QB literally thrown into the fire.

#13 QB of the future?

^Word.   Late round picks at QB are usually late picks for a reason. Hell a lot of first round picks at QB never amount to much.
T.J. struggles with accuracy and that is a huge part of what makes you a good QB in this league.  I'm sure there are other parts of his game

that need work but I'm not a football guru

Yates isn't the QB of the future, but with the invaluable experience he got last season, he's a nice backup to have
behind healthy Schaub. Who knows what will happen down the line, but he's a good guy to have behind Schaub,
and can only get better. I know we're [still] looking for a veteran QB though. On radio 610 they verbally smacked this
guy up for mentioning bringing Vince Young in.
