AIR JORDAN 4 Black/Cement/Grey BLACK FRIDAY via COUNTERKICKS 03/08/12

Ok that was a dumb question on my part. Could of swore they were upright on my cement IV's.
Don't assume I'm some young kid just now buying Jordans. I'm 26, and I did watch MJ play. Was
an honest mistake. Don't have to hate on me so hard geez.
Nice try! That's not something you would have forgotten

little history lesson for you young guys just getting into J's:
Back in the 80's people folded their tongues down, and they put it like that so you can see the Air Jordan right side up when flipped.

History lesson for some of you young guys: Not ALL of us folded our tongues down :smokin

So kids can't like how a shoe looks now?
Oh.
To further discuss, most kids only like shoes because it's the "it" thing to do however, I'd be willing to bet some of em actually like how the shoe looks.
Perhaps I should have italicized this: and it can't be just the "look" of the sneakers either.

Implying that there's more than MERELY the looks of the sneaker that makes them go into a frenzy.

I'm mildly curious to hear the rationalization in their own words.

When my brother and I were standing in line at 4am for these some punk 16 year old kids ran up to our line to see what we were waiting for. Everyone told them air jordan 4's and they googled them on their phones. Both kids didn't look impressed by the shoes and got out of line. I think they just interested in buying them because everyone else was.

you cant be serious fam......
Honest question - why do 12 year old kids buy J's?  They never saw him play (so no nostalgia factor), and it can't be just the "look" of the sneakers either.

"Oh I just really like them" is obviously BS (and doesn't really answer the question).

I realize looking for a psychological modus operandi for a 12 year old kid might seem pointless, but I just want to use this information to estimate when buying J's won't be such a pain anymore.  Planning for the future - sort of a ghetto financial forecasting, if you will.

If it really does just boil down to hype, then I predict 3 years from now these toddlers will latch on to something else like little pilotfish.
the answer is simple, kids are followers - in most cases its rappers, athletes, and celebrities.. "ralph lauren was boring before I wore him" speaks volumes

Kid should have did a little research and read up on the IV.

Instead he showed his ignorance and lacking knowledge.

There is this great tool that allows you to search for information called the Internet.

And 15 years from now, 12 year olds will be after Lebron Sneakers.

Why can't people like a shoe for how it looks?  I'll be honest...a majority buy Jordans because of hype nowadays, but you can't completely discredit the aesthetics of the shoes.

These 4s look clean.

I'm not sure if you would get the same response if the 2009 Js retro (not knockin them, but they really didn't move like retros now) or the Team Jordans release 10 years from now.

To each their own, but for me J's have a nostalgic feeling because I was alive when he was playing and a big fan of the GOAT. I remember when everyone including myself wanted to be like Mike. Couldn't afford all of them back then and only got one pair of J's or Nike's a year if I was lucky. Now I'm picking and choosing which pairs I want and doubling up for the long term.

These youngins can buy whatever they want, but I don't see the emotional connection they can have with these shoes. I remember the good old days of rolling to your mall a week after RD or the following Saturday and still having the ability to pick them up and even try them on. I doubt those days will ever return.

Well since this is supposed to be a "sneaker community" I figured I could ask a question without getting blasted and labeled "ignorant".

that was a very blatant mistake. thats towards the line of someone not knowing the tongues on the v's is 3m.

was pretty lucky to be one of the few employees who got my first pair on discount at work. Had a chance to double up a few times including last night on NDC. Had one in my cart, but let it go, hoping someone who missed out the first time got it. kinda regretting it now.

Well don't worry, From now on I will use this thing called the "Internet" you guys speak of, before asking a question on here :smh:

True, but you typically won't hear a kid admit that.

That's why I wanted to hear it in their own words.  It's like studying a mouse in a maze.

Ah well, c'est la vie.

It's not just the look because if Spalding made a shoe with the same exact design, they wouldn't cop. ...But, the thing is, you wouldn't either.

People cop because they get attached to brands and what brands stand for. Older generation purists (myself included) like to bash the youngins for the arbitrary nature of their desire for the shoe, but the truth is that we are pretty damn shallow ourselves as well. We are brand ****** too. Sure, over the years, you've developed a deeper relationship with brands and pieces, but when we got into what we got into, we didn't have any more lofty reasoning than today's kids do.

This is what the cool kids in my hood wear. This is what my favorite athlete or musician wears. Over time, you stuck with it and it played a part in the fabric of who you are and the subcultures with which you identify, but that happens over time.

Truth is, people like us are actually the outliers, not the norm. 15-20 years ago, all my friends were either dipped in, or aspiring to be dipped in the Jordans, Air Maxes, and Stadium Plates or Bear Knits, or whatever. Most people don't actually develop a true long-standing relationship with stuff they get into as teenagers though. I'm the only one of my friends who still has hundreds of sneakers, and storage bins full of the same gear we all obsessed over in 1994.

So, people like to play this card to clown the kids today -- and I do it too. But, the truth is we aren't nearly as above the fray as we think we are. And, they aren't as different from us at their age as we like to pretend they are.

Related question/counterpoint --

Do you find it more "acceptable" for the younger generation to go crazy over the 'Bron, KD, or Kobe releases, given that these are athletes more of their era?

BTW, marketing has also come a long way in the past 20-25 years. Who is to say that if all the technological tools that helped allow the sneaker subculture to grow to what it is today had existed in the era of the original Jordan releases that the climate at that time wouldn't have changed vastly? ...People were already getting robbed on the regular for their Jordans in that era.

...You know, if you put out a ton of cops on a busy stretch of highway, you'll catch a lot of speeders. If, the next day, you only put out a few, you will only catch a few, But, from that, you'd be wrong to conclude that the number of speeders changed significantly from one day to the next. People find what they look for. And, if you want to look for "beasting" today, you'll definitely find it. But, you then compare it to past days as if none of this ever happened before because that's not how we remember it. The thing is, we weren't making a conscious effort to look for it either... but you'd be crazy to deny that a whole bunch of kids of our generation also only wanted the new Jordans because they were "cool.".

So, you don't find what you don't look for - that shouldn't be confused with the actual reality of the situation though.

So my order from FNL has been "in process" since last Friday and continues to be today. Wouldn't they have cancelled it by now?

Be patient. I got a shipping confirm this morning for the last 2 of 3 I placed. I guess they just take forever to process..
