Outside Of the two clutch seasons? I find it funny how people can say outside of the two runs lulz. This dude has been a road warrior winning in other teams backyards who were heavily favorite.first run he beats a cowboy team in Dallas that won their division,a packer team that won their division, and a perfect team in the pats. Second run they beat the 15-1 packer team,13-3 niner team and once again a pats team that was 13-3 coming in with a ten game winning streak. But we should overlook all this right lulz

And YOU seem to be focusing all of your attention on the runs. Don't blame you, but take your blinders off.
What about his other average to barely above average seasons? What about his other postseason performances?

What about his 0 TD's, 3 INT's stinker against the Panthers in '06? Or super basic outing against Eagles in '07? 2 TD's 1 INT? 167 yds?

Nah, let's not talk about another stinker against the Eagles in '09? 0 TD's. 2 INT's?

I get it, though. Rings do cover up blemishes.

Like dmxfury said, it's about being one of the best at your position for YEARS.

You had Eli in your top 3-5 for MULTIPLE years?

AIGHT, G.

This makes him a HOF ?  This makes him a legitsky guy where kids of the next generation will adore?  You srs?

The keyword here is 'FAME'.

Saying lulz after every other sentence isn't earning this dude any respect for his already ridiculous opinions.

The end result should not carry the biggest weight, rather, the path you took is what matters.

I would definitely put Peyton over Eli, granted Peyton has only won 1 super bowl, but his on field play and 'fame' definitely revolutionized the Colts.

Know what is spectacular? What A.Smith did against the Saints, that was spectacular. When you see more 'fame' mous moments like that, is when you'll hear HOF lock.

Eli did his job, but it was 'far' from being spectacular. Eli is an example of a student that didn't attend class, but aced the exam. Now would this student be a GOOD STUDENT, or BAD STUDENT? LOL

Do not even talk about Aaron Rodgers, he's still a pup. He should fight Brett Farve.

Are you a Niners fan by chance?
I like the Niners in the past few decades, but am a fan of the Patriots.  I dislike Jim Harb, so I find it difficult in rooting for them.  My heart is still w/ the Patriots, but people here do not know what spectacular means anymore.  The reason why the HOF is the HOF is because it understand the generational differences in the game.  Those that can SEPARATE themselves from the PACT and CRAFT their own name is what counts.

A person needs to go through highs and lows, peaks and troughs to be successful, therefore, the student that struggles and then ACEs the exam is what I'd put my money on, because he has 'good' practice and he 'battled' through thick and thin.  I'm not saying ELI didn't battle, but he did not do anything spectacular.

You are HOF when you put on a show, in a losing effort.  Cats here ONLY REMEMBER the good stuff about ELI, which is why he is not yet in the HOF.

Think about it.

the same can be said about peyton.... ppl forget the 7 str8 seasons of big time stats in unimportant games and bombing and comming short esp... being ousted by the pats year in and year out. there was a time not to long ago ppl were saying peyton was marino 2.0... difference with marino he never really had a good great team in all his career and even tho always comming short, it wasnt due to his personal gameplay. peyton case in most part had good/great teams and it was HIS individual gameplay that lead to those losses.

for what it is worth look at what eli has done in his first 7 years 2 rings/2 mvps, 4 4,000+ yard seasons, playing good/lights out against some and the best teams at that time including a perfect pats team who was lead by a qb who had one of the best single seasons in nfl history.

LDJ,

Very respectable point made, this is why it's so hard to say who would make it into the HOF, especially in the pass 10+ year.  I can only think of 3 guys, Peyton, Brett, and Tom Brady.

They inked their names, they created 'fame' in such a way where their names will forever be in the 'classics'.

I used to think Peyton played with great teams, but I'm starting to think he covered up a lot of bad drafts and not so great teams in actuality. I think he covered up a lot of mistakes and made a lot of players better than they might have been

I have never seen a Super Bowl impact a player as much as this has impacted Eli Manning. Were people saying that Ben Roethlisberger was better than Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, and Drew Brees after he won his second Super Bowl?

I could have sworn that going into this season, with two Super Bowl rings already, people had Big Ben either borderline top 5 or outside of the top 5...

Weird.

I tried to avoid this thread but the hate is just too strong

eli have at least a good 7 years left in his career so why do we even talk about this?

But lets speculate anyway. Lets just say the number of pro bowls determines HOF. I would say 8 pro bowl selection is a good number for HOFers. Again this is only my opinion.

we all know eli have sucked during his first couple of years as a giant but he continues to improve every year

he has 2 rings AND 2 super bowl mvps. The super bowl mvps DO MATTER. I would say the weight of the super bowl mvp is 1.5 pro bowl and a ring is 2 pro bowl
based on his super bowl accomplishments he is already a 7x pro bowler
he is also already a 2x pro bowl selection..
so that already makes him a "9 time pro bowler" lets use 2 "pro bowls" as a margin of error
at the very minimum he is a 7x "pro bowler"

The question is what more does eli have to do?

win another ring? a couple of pro bowl selections? maybe a regular season mvp?

all he have to do is accomplish ONE of these feats and he is a LOCK
and I am absolutely positive eli can make do one of these things in 7 years. 99.9% sure

if he retires right now he is borderline HOF with a GREAT chance of getting in

Respect on a shoe forum lulz. But by the looks of you next to Arron Rodgers I can see why that's important to you.

At this foolishness.  This thread gets better and better.

As I have said twice, how is saying a guy isn't a lock for the HOF but is on the path "hate"? Nobody (or at most 1 -2) has discredited Eli and said he is not a good QB, not a great QB, not a clutch QB. People have just said he isn't quite a HOF lock yet.

the super bowl impacted his brother this way.... dude has 7 str8 failing short seasons, a decent/good playoff run and wins a superbowl in which one could argue that it was the colts d, that was subpar at best playing the best ball EVER... and he went from the guy who could never win and the next marino, to one of the greatest players in nfl history.

as far as ben and eli two rings goes, it was more of steelers great d, and good great coaching, and other players stepping up moreso then it was big bens gameplay. to be honest, in either of the 2 years the pitts went one super bowls, ben wasnt playing all that great, ok good at times, but it wasnt on some historical, career defining moments

That final drive in XLIII wasn't career defining? XL I'll give you but as said he played great that all road playoff run

Peyton also had much higher expectations, so not winning a Super Bowl was a detriment. Eli hasn't displayed near the consistency or elite level status throughout his career that Peyton did in the regular season, so him winning that first SB was a surprise and considered a "hot run."

With this second SB we're all convinced Eli is pretty damn clutch, but let's be real...The difference between clutch and not-so could easily be summed up by a few dropped passes or amazing catches that change a perception.

I will not take anything away from Eli because he got it done, but some of these arguments are way too much in the moment and based on trajectory. It's fun to do that, but for some, perception is reality right now and if you look a little deeper, only your ignorance would blind you from what you're missing.

The mvps come along with the rings. SB mvps are given to QBs by default. QB have to really crap their pants, or someone else has to be spectacular in order for them(QB) not to win it. I'm not trying to take away from SB Mvps, but they are no way shape or form at telling how good you are as a QB overall. Maybe how good you are in one game, or in a lot of the cases the fact you weren't bad in THE game.

You can easily argue it was Giants d that won both SB as well.

The thing is he is a Hall of Fame lock... hall of fame voters are partial to QBs and every QB with multiple super bowl wins is in.  Eli and Ben are going to get in.

The only way they maybe don't is if their careers ended today, and even then if Belichik and Brady are HoF locks, two exciting Super Bowl wins over them won't sway voters?

Last time I checked both were game winning drives orchestrated by Eli pinned back deep in their own territory try again tho.

Nako, Jim Plunkett respectfully disagrees

I think he will end up getting in but let it play out....lousy let it play out

true but in particularly this year eli stepped up his individual play moreso then the giants d stepped up.... eli had one of his best seasons and playoffs and the giants d was ranked 27th. not to take anything away from the giants d, but i think in particular the playoffs and sb eli made this HIS team and it was how well he played that willed them to win. first sb you can kinda say it was the d more then it was eli playing, but this year not so much.
