OFFICIAL COMIC BOOK THREAD

I know we're kind of off the topic now but nobody complains about the Robin legacy because Grayson, Todd, and Drake are all fantastic characters who take the place of the previous Robin when they are NO LONGER ROBIN and don't ever exist as Robin at the SAME DAMN TIME as their predecessors or successors
Give these new guys a chance and I'm sure there'll be more fantastic characters.

This distinction about they moved on don't really matter. As if putting red in front of Robin really changes anything for Drake. I'm surprised some dumb editor didn't just think of the idea to copy John's and give us a whole rainbow of Robins to trot out.

Great stories and character arcs are what really matter. Don't care if there's 2 Caps, 2 Thors, 5 Spideys, 3 IMs, etc. I mean back in the 90s they did try to make up new heroes but US Agent and Thunderstrike just didn't catch on.
Can't say the same about Flash but hey
Yeah, just hey.
And also, the readers voted Jason to live. Some nerd actually hacked the phone lines to make it look like the overwhelming majority wanted him dead.
 Hacked the phones  In the 80s

Todd was a **** character that the fans hated. Many of which had similar feelings and opinions you have regarding legacies and replacements today. All it took was like 20 years of death and a Super Prime reality punch for some writer to tell stories with Todd where he so.show gained a fan base and at least one cool story addressing and important issue regarding Batman.

Actually going to disagree with you on that. Not about the idea of Richard, Jason, or Tim being fantastic characters, but about no one complaining. I see people complain about the Robins more than any other group of legacy heroes, and as I mentioned yesterday, the entire Bat Family as a whole if we're being honest. And even taking that into account i've never seen similar complaining concerning Flash or GL (I'm starting to see some now for how many Earth Green Lanterns there are, but thats it). Despite having moved on people still refer to the characters as "Robins", "Bat Sons", or something else along those lines.

A lot of people hated Todd, there were rumors that one person used a autodialer to vote for death repeatedly, but even then the amount of votes that he actually effected is debatable. Wasn't "overwhelming majority" either way. Pushed it from a small vote to live lead, to an even smaller vote to kill lead.

Damian showed up while Drake was still Robin, tried to kill him for the role too. During Resurrection of Ra they both were "Robin", although Damian was not official until after Final Crisis/Battle for Cowl.

Guys can you recommend a great comic outside of the traditional DC and Marvel comics?

I want to branch out.  Something I can start from the beginning.
From what I'm reading or plan to read.

Highly recommended:
Saga, Invincible

Hit or miss for some:
Wicked and the Divine, The Walking Dead

Newer ongoing:
Paper Girls(7 issues in), 4 Kids Walk into a Bank(2 issues in), Joyride(3 issues in)

I couldn't really get into comic books as much as I did when I was younger, but I got hooked on Saga from the very first chapter. That comic is incredible!

Tim is that dude too. More then sidekicks. They hold their own.

Just sucks that Robin/ nightwing will forever be under Bats' wing. Not really command his own. As in top tier characters like Supes WW, GL, Flash.

Though, YJ did give him shine and the leader in the 2nd season.

Guys thanks for the recommendations:

Picked up

Invincible 1, 2, 129

Lazarus 1

Jupiters Legacy 1 and 3 - seem to can't find 2 no where.  Called 4 places already

Jupiter's Legacy 2 #1

Civil War II The Totally Awesome Hulk 8

Amel, there's an Asian Superman...

Superman!

That's the heights of DCnext to batman

An asian superman, you say

Interesting.

But on the marvel side, not enough asians

By my count we got a middle eastern Ms. Marvel, a white girl Thor, black/latino spiderman, black Captain America, a black female IM.. I might be forgetting some other people... Waiting on a character to become asian..

*edit

There's an asian american Hulk? Wow did not expect that. I can roll with that though.

*edit

And he's a guy. Even cooler. Too many roles are getting gender bent to the point where the guys seem like they might get outnumbered

FYI that's not Invincible #1 or 2, one is a one shot, the other one is a handbook? I think just a guide to the world of Invincible. Gonna be tough to find first two issues of the series though. Trades best way to go if you want to read them.

Yeah I realize that when I got home

Well atleast the handbook can give me a heads up.

Jupiter Legacy is dope. Now I have to play catch up

I'm trying to step my indie game up too.

I haven't read it yet, but I heard The Fade Out is supposed to be good. I would buy the trades, but I'm waiting for the hardcover to drop this October. I think it's a 40s murder mystery/crime drama/Mad Men type vibe in the film industry kind of story.

It's not out yet, but Rick Remender's got a new series coming soon called Seven to Eternity and it looks pretty sick. Black Hammer from Jeff Lemire starts in a couple weeks and Van Jansen (Hoops fan who wrote the last John Stewart GLC run. Was a sad day for me when DC cancelled it.) has a new series out right now called Cryptocracy.

I didn't realize the Jupiter Legacy was so big..

I seen Jupiter Circle Vol. 1 and 2

Can someone break down how this should be read?

Jupiters Circle is fill in/prequel stuff because Frank Quiletly is slow drawing.

Jupiters Legacy is the main series, you can ignore the Circle if you want to

but it's also good.

Yeah Jupiter's Circle is just as good imo. Just got done with both volumes a few months ago.

Telling their stories in the 50s and 60s era.

While he does them great I want Millar to do something a bit longer like a 12 issue run or get back to the multiple stories like he did with Kick-***.
