the thread about nothing...

Just got home from the children's hospital. My little cousin Amira is brain dead and her body is alive only because of a ventilator and sedation medicine. She can be gone any time now. Her heart won't take much more but I believe the only reason the plug hasn't been pulled yet is that her mother, my cousin Tanaia, wants to make sure my uncle rick and aunt terri get to say their last goodbyes.

Background story:

Yesterday evening, Amira was playing and eating a hotdog when a piece got caught in her throat

Her older sister brought her to their mom and she performed the heimlich maneuver

Then my uncle rick came and attempted to perform CPR while 911 was on the way

Once the ambulance came, Amira was basically limp with no pulse

The paramedics were able to revive her and get her stable, but she was still unconscious

They then transfer her to Dayton Children's Hospital's ICU

After tests were ran, they discovered that there was limited brain activity and gave her 24 - 72 hours

At about 2:40am, my mom sent me a text stating that Amira is brain dead and that  heartbeat is fading and it is only a matter of time

I rushed to the hospital and saw her

I touch her hand, looked at her and I just knew that she was already gone

I know my grandma is giving her the grand tour of heaven right now and that she is in immaculate hands.

For the NTers that are parents, take time today to hug your little one(s) and say you love them. As the saying goes, "here today.....gone tomorrow"

Rough man. Can only imagine the pain you and your family are going through. Condolonences.

Thank you fellas.

Update: Me and most of the family are back at the hospital. They are going to pull the plug sometime soon. Both sets of grandparents are here. Mila, Amira's big sister, is also here. Right now everyone is okay, but once she's really gone, it's going to hurt.

I am sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. May she Rest In Paradise.

Jeez fam...It's disheartening to hear, especially for just a child.

I hope a miracle comes through.

Update for today:

They will turn Amira's machine off tomorrow afternoon because her mom Tanaia, my cousin, and Amira's dad Paul have decided to donate some of Amira's viable organs. The doctors have to run a final test and contact the families that will receive her organs. They will harvest her kidneys, heart, and liver.

We all got to go back and say our final goodbyes. My aunt Terri, maternal grandmother, is basically having a nervous breakdown. My aunt is usually over dramatic when it comes to times of crisis but this time she is really losing it. When my mom tried to get her to leave the room so that the doctors can do what they need to do, she kept saying that she will wake up and it was her weekend to have the grandkids. Eventually the nurses had to get her out of there.

Her older sister Myla went back and saw her. She was talking to Amira and holding her hand. She knows she's sleeping but I wonder how she will do once she realizes that her baby sister isn't coming home. :-(

Tomorrow will be tough.

Thank you NT for the well wishes. Me and my family appreciate it. It's so hard to see a little 4 year old on a hospital bed and not able to do anything to help her.
