I mean seriously, it is insane these days........
Is it because of twitter and sites like that??

even with the price hike nike/jordan has at that these days

reminds of da comic book bubble right before da great crash...problem with nikes and jordans is they're actually functional to wear so constant diminishin

numbers and constant stimulating aftermarket sales thru ebay and messageboards makes it hard for da market to crash...da demand is just intense.

On a scale of one to ten, how much effort do you save by typing 'da' instead of 'the'?

I feel that Nike is more of luxury item because of this....

times are hard so only the very foolish or those who have enough funds to be spending on sneakers buy them. Since they are expensive one would expect people to hesitate to buy but thats not the case for Nike because of the brand loyalty and the image behind the company. Nikes marketing is the best out there and this ensures the constant purchase of the products at whatever prices. Add limited run and any label which brings up the appeal for those loyal to the brand that buy anything that is dished out.

I don't know why I break more necks now then I did 2 years ago and this is while wearing 4 yr old kicks that look newish. Its like people are now glorifying the shoes more because they are expensive. Its that glamour that sells. I havent bought a new pair in years because of the retail prices.

If you would have gotten through with your Cement IV order would you have made this thread? NO.

I can't help but laugh at how bad it has gotten, considering that my priorities have changed and I havent bought a new pair of J's since like 06. Just recently did I find out about the rising msrp on top of the already sub par quality. Nike and JB has always been a staple in pop culture, even before the internet, but the internet allowed them to take it to the next level and then some. That includes Niketalk. NT is an invaluable source for Nike/JB. And yeah, it makes sense that recent social media outlets have allowed them to exploit consumers even more. In 1999, internet access was limited, the term hypebeast did not exist, and the IV's released for $99 with QUALITY materials. lol.

took da RCT's instead

I hope sneakers burn out. I'm tired of this hype and commercialized force feeding of the "sneakerhead/collector" mentality that the internet and media is encouraging.

It makes it harder to get sneakers and it takes a simple enjoyable hobby and turns it into a kids popularity contest.

the cement iv thread is flat out PATHETIC right now. You would think some of the dudes just ran short of getting enough money to bail their grandmas out of jail with the way they are taking it right now all heartbroken...

160 plus tax plus shipping for crap that resembles FAKE IV's of 10 years ago more than the original authentic product.

dudes need to get their priorities straight. How you gonna shed tears over shoes? What kind of man does that?

I always sort of wanted the whole sneaker thing to get more exposure and recognition among people, like my friends, that didn't really know about the culture, so they would understand it a little better. But things have gotten out of control. A lot of people, not just kids, these days don't know a thing about the shoes and buy just to buy. I have no problem with those buying because they like them. But you got 50% of people buying them because everyone else is getting them (i.e. Concord release) and another 25% buying just to resell.

Agree. I blame Twitter, Tumblr, Wale, This whole "swag" snapback, bulls, %$#% movement, etc.

Got kids posting pictures and saying "oh i paid 50$ for my vintage grizzlies snapback, gonna wear them with my white spacejams."

But oh well, I save money every release I don't make, so i guess some good comes out of it.

I still wear my gold flightposites and my 1st release black/navy Flightposite II's. eff jordan/nike. I'll buy what I can afford and refuse to feel any kind of peer pressure or whatever that makes you want these hundreds of releases every year.

false, an i can still get that if i choose to get up, besides the point though
i went in the galaxy foam thread an im reading stories or store managers, "vip"lines, astronomical prices of like 900+

its not just the cement IVs, all of these recent releases, the red foams

dude when the royals and eggplants came out i dont live in NY, i live in CT.........these things sat at least a week, it was never this hard to get GR kicks......i know NY is a diff beast, but i def see the change now more so and this is with the price hikes at that like i stated before

ASG and Yeezy releases will be interesting but Im glad im not the only one who sees it I guess the social media has given nike a great boost.

It never dies out, the people just get replaced. The guys that do it for the recognition usually burn out once college hits and no cares about that. Problem is they get replaced by a new breed of High Schoolers every year.

Shady stores/employees, limited kicks being sold for crazy prices, Websites crashing. None of this is new.

Before the 09 Eggplants we didn't get foams in my city(we only got like 10 pairs) so while buying the kicks isn't as easy as it once was on the flip side people who don't live in major cities have access to more releases now.

Sure social media has helped but the themed/HOH kicks is what really got the ball rolling....look what it did for Kobe/Bron lines... No one was messing Lebrons when the regular colorways were dropping and Kobe 3s were in Ross for $26

I blame this solely on Nike and the celebrities. What used to be something very easy for myself and others on here to buy - has now became a frenzy.
Quite frankly, I'm getting tired of what used to be a hobby of ours; is now some type of underground market for unknown's to attempt to get rich off of. I can guarantee you 40% or more of the people trying to buy these are buying them with the intent to re-sell them for a higher price. It's ridiculous.

I'm tired of being a buy/sell guide here on NT, just so someone else can profit off of my volunteer work. Might just quit all together..ain't worth it to me.

They are some shrewd business men.
The recession started and they improved JB quality, cut out all of the funky colorways and brought out the all time classics 1 after another, they increased the prices to accommodate for inflation (and rising material coasts, eventhough they have streamlined the manufacturing to keep costs down) and they ramped up their social network marketing...resulting in profits and a stock price that is through the roof.

I'm a Jordan fanatic but I have eyes to see.

They are about their $ right now in these crucial times, a great indication that I need to do the same.

As much as I love the Cements and as dope as those Galaxy Foams are, its not bothering me in the slightest to pass on them.

The sneaker market is now like the stock market, you're an idiot to rush and pick up on sneakers just because of the hype. They will still be there on eBay, NT, Twitter, ISS, Mom and Pop stores, Outlets, etc. after the release date. And the prices will continue to fluctuate as heat floods the market.

Get your paper right then you can scoop whatever you want with a clear conscience.
