Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in SF? Any NTers roll?

^^

Barra Bros

I'm 4 months in and had ZERO experience. My first day I was off to the side practicing beginner submissions with another student. The way they teach is really proficient (and easy on the ego). Plus everyone there is willing to help and give you pointers, even other whitebelts.

Yea I'm monthly.. The bootcamp is mostly women though (the few times I've stayed long enough to see them trickling in). I'm there every MWF evening for the beginners class. I've lived a pretty active lifestyle for a while and I tell everyone that BJJ is the best exercise I've encountered.

-You build strength in your core and upper body
-the techniques require some flexibility so I do a bit of yoga stretches on a daily basis
-rolling / grappling is pretty much interval cardio
-for some it motivates a change in eating habits

I also suggest Ernie Reyes West Coast Martial Arts - they have instructors that teach almost every form of martial arts.

I can honestly say that I may have never checked out Barra Bros if it wasn't for this thread

I hear Rickson Gracie is doing a seminar in south city. Anyone ever attend or hear about his seminars? What are they like?

BTW congrats on that blue belt TiDE619, how long did it take you?

gravediggin... kinda

to the BJJ guys-

Any recommendations on what to drink while training? I feel like water isn't cutting it and I try to stay away from all the sugar in gatorade. The last 15-20 mins is rolling and I feel like I've exhausted all my energy after 8-10 minutes. Any suggestions?

Also what's a good post work out drink?

Thanks

this is comical for me cause this is how i feel every damn day. granted, im fat and eat like crap, but damn does it take awhile to build that sparring stamina. it gets bad when i am extra lazy and take more than a week or so off from training, then its like starting from scratch to build that stamina back up. slap hands, start the roll, 5+ minutes in and I am suckin wind like no other. story of my life.

based on your post timeline, it looks like you got your blue in about a year flat. congratulations. you must be a monster, seriously. ive been at it for about 2 years now, and for some reason got my blue a few months back. i feel like i wasnt quite there yet, but i guess, who am i to judge my coach's decision. as i am getting up there in age a bit, those athletic young buck whites still give me fits. not that i have an ego about it, but being a blue sucks. as a white belt, there is no pressure. you get tapped 10x in a row, so what? as a fresh blue you got all the whites gunning for you. gotta be on your A game.

What's up everyone-
