I really do not know what to say, I always get asked what I was wearing and when I say Balmain or Lanvin, I say it how it is suppose to be said like "bal-mahn" and "lahn-vahn" and I feel like I am being such a douche but it's just saying it the correct way yet it sounds snobbish.
laugh.gif

Then they ask how much and where I got it from and I really just get embarrassed to say so I just always reply Barneys.

If they just say "nice shoes" or "nice jeans" then I just say thanks and try to get away as soon as I can.

Its really pronounced like that? Not how they look?

"ball-maine" and "lan-vin".

Correct way is so douchey, id pronounce it the way it looks haha.

I totally agree, they don't worth that much money. But then again, I do like how they look and feel and even fit, but I still dont think they worth that much lol. same goes to all the luxury brands I guess including BMW:wink:
they go on sale. I've seen Balmain (not the Pierre stuff) for around 300 if not less. Just wait for the sales

BALL MON/LAWN VAUGHN/G VON SCHEE/AIR MEZ/LOO VICTONG (How they said it in Paris)

UpscaleHype is cool, but that Allen guy is a weirdo.

Allen must have got that shirt for free.

Unless you have a unlimited bank account, I can't see why anyone would be a $300 plain grey shirt.

Not this again.

Geez, why are people always questioning the items price when in a luxury shoe/clothing/item thread?

He has a point.

I dont see how a plain grey/black/white tshirt would cost $300.

No amount of quality makes it $300, thats the epitome of paying for the name.

I see only in regards to literally basic colored tshirts.

Like I've stated before, luxury purchases aren't always about quality, again it isn't a responsible or reasonable purchase, that is why it is a luxury item. A lot plays a role in the item, the brand name, quality, style, how it is supposed to look, etc...

All these items has a perceived value and quality will eventually hit a point of diminishing returns but do not expect to get exactly on what you paid for a luxury item.

Only way to do that is to pay wholesale prices but that is close to impossible.

Whether it is a shirt, a pair of shoes or jeans, a jacket, etc... you will go nuts if you think about trying to equate the quality to the price you are paying. That is just almost impossible to apply to luxury items.

It's a want, not a need. You NEED a watch, Timex will do but we WANT a Rolex. You NEED a shoe, a pair of Chucks will do but we WANT Balenciaga.

First off, that plain grey shirt is not a luxury item. It's an overpriced under shirt.

Price/name shouldn't be the only factor that determines rather or something is a luxury item.

Believe it or not, it is a luxury item. Undershirt or not, it is still luxury. Just because you don't see it as such doesn't disqualify it as one. Damir Doma is on the higher end tier or brands, it's just a different aesthetic.

And as I've written before, it isn't strictly the name or price, the style (yes people do pay for the style, look at Rick Owens, Julius, etc... and a bunch of other goth ninja/Japanese brands/looks), which includes style, the cut, the fit, the drape, etc... Some of these items are actually quite fragile too so it has to be handled a certain way but that doesn't mean quality is bad. Quality can also pertain where the cloth came from, the weaves, etc... The cloth itself feels a bit unique, again it is hard to point out where and how much difference it can make to charge that much but the item does cater to people who can afford it and want it.

I completely understand that not everyone gets this and no matter what ones say, it simply won't change your opinions or views, that's cool. It really isn't much different to Nike charging $180+ for their retroes when it cost less than $10 to make and the quality of the materials used and build of the shoe itself feels like it cost less than $2 to make.

Rolex got played out by black celebrities/rappers. Black people ALWAYS OD on everything.

Patek > Rolex

What?

Rolex has been a sign of "success" by most people, it's their mark of "making it" in the world and that isn't limited to any race. I'd say 90% of people buy it for the name w/o knowing anything about quality, movement, history, etc... Hell people think Rolex is the epitome of watches in the world.

No man.

Luxury items are fine. You can appreciate their design, and in some cases quality.

But theres no LUXURY in a $300 plain tshirt. A PLAIN TSHIRT.

You cant correlate Timex/Rolex to that argument. Cmon fam.

You NEED a tshirt, a Uniqlo shirt will do but we WANT that $300 gray tshirt?

Da ****. Theres a clear difference in design from Timex to a Rollie, same for Chucks and Arenas. Plain tshirts?

Of course you can, it isn't your typical Hanes tee from Target with just the tags changed. It looks more ridiculous than other items because it's basic and it seems like the line between the dollar value and what you get is too far along but there it is.

Actually to some people, everything in this thread are ridiculous.

Again you can't all put all the dollar value to the quality, wash, cut, fit, etc... of the item, sometimes it's just in the name and the look. I am sure you've worn a tee where one cheap one is all stiff and like cardboard while a more expensive one is like wearing silk? One is 100x more comfortable than the other. You know, not all cotton are created equal? Add to that the style, wash, it being cut an sewn by hand, even though it looks like a basic and simple design, it is still cut/made a certain way to achieve that look.

Now I am not defending the price, it is still ridiculous for what you get but I am just trying to explain what work was put in the tee and what separates it from a regular $5 Hanes tee from Target.

Rolex was an example of the whole concept of NEED vs WANT concept, I am not saying it is exactly like buying a Hanes tee vs that Damir tee to Rolex & Timex but the same concept pertains to both.

Have you handled the tee itself? Felt it? Worn it? Again the gap for the dollar value is much farther than other items that are more complicated to make but there is a very distinct difference in the DD tee compared to others. Again not just in quality but also in fit and style. Alternatives are limited and yeah some may think "that looks like a cut-up old tee" but hey, that's what they are going for.

Really hate to repeat it but it feels like it isn't being heard. The cotton itself could be made and weaved from a more expensive factory, just like bed sheets thread counts, not all cottons are created equal. The wash on the tee, the cut, the style (hand cut? hand sewn?), etc... All those plays a role in that particular tee. Hanes tee are cut, sewn up and pressed by machines from the cheapest cotton they can find and then shipped to stores. WHere it is made plays a role too, China vs Italy/France/Japan. The tee simply went through more process to achieve the look and feel of the tee. I mean you guys could at least understand that, right?

Again I am not saying the tee itself is worth $300-$400 for everything that has been done to it but it isn't as simple as those Hanes tees. At the end of the day it is a tee but the process and material of getting to the end product aren't the same. Hell that Damir Doma tee has probably been through more process and work than the screen-printed Givenchy tees that cost $500-$700+.

Rolex is one of the most mass manufactured watches out there with one of the most generic movements but it is tiered over Omega when Omegas quality is better overall and in-house movements are much limited and specific and complicated. Rolex has marketed their watch by their history and perception it has created and the fact that they control their pricing. At this point, I am not even really sure if Rolex is 100% handmade like Patek or AP. Their movements are so mass manufactured that many compare it to an ETA 2824 movement, just simply mass produced.

Yes there is a big quality difference between $20 Timex and Rolex but if you really look at it, is the difference worth $8,000-$10,000?

But again, that example is the NEED vs WANT concept, not specifically to make it equal in the difference between each examples.

You NEED a tshirt, a Uniqlo shirt will do but we WANT that $300 gray tshirt?

I guarantee though that it won't look or feel the same. I mean did you see the pic of the tee in the link? It doesn't look like much but it doesn't look like any tee you'll find at Uniqlo. Not going to defend how it looks because I know people will think it is ridiculous (tough it really shouldn't because well, style and all) but if you see how it looks, you aren't going to simply suggest Uniqlo.

You just made my point.

New money buy Rolex because that's what they think successful people buy.

People who really love and are knowledgable about timepieces knows that Patek is superior.

Just like women who think Louis Vuitton handbags are the holy grail.

Hermes Birkins are far superior, but isn't as recognizable or known amongst the simpletons.

Majority of the people are wearing fake Rolex watches anyways.

You don't need a watch at all.....

Wake up and find out this is now the broke trolls thread. :smh: Don't bother wasting your time rfx45 rfx45 they don't get it. They either lack the ability to see facts outside of their own beliefs, or they are having a go with you since they can't afford anything in this thread. Most people think anything they aren't interested in is overpriced, and they want to tell you why you should agree with them. This self-affirmation is important for people, logic, detailed explanations and facts won't get in their way.
