I'm not just saying this because my suit is Dior, but Dior does make beautiful dark suits. Also, if you're only going to own one suit, Iwould recommend getting grey or navy; as far as suits, black really doesn't go with everything.

Yeah, I know black is a bit too formal for an interview etc. and that Navy is a better choice.
But I've always liked a slim black suit. But I'll see what's available.

The dior suits I've seen in mags etc are pretty nice, then again anything tailored would look good I'd think.

Great minds think alike!
I have the same wallet but in cardholder form.

Nice stuff JV, I especially like the first two jackets. I can't deny APC's and W&H's quality but those are also way overpriced.
That Maharishi sweater is a bit out there, it may not scream the brand but it certainly gets attention.
The Neighborhood shirt with a built in tie look is also a bit tacky, everything is cool though.
What size is your Dior suit? I've always wanted some Dior suits but if you are not built like a male model (as in skinny) then it just won't like righton you.

Lol. I never said I wasn't up for a little flash, I just don't like excessive branding. The Neighborhood shirt is definitely admittedlytacky.

As far as APC, I do think some of their stuff is overpriced, but W+H's stuff is all produced in Canada, spiking their production costs, meaning that Idoubt their markup is that high.

The Dior suit a size 38. I'm only 5' 9" so I can pull off a lot of the slimmer fashion.

Btw, I saw all the Paul Smith shoes you posted in the other thread. Paul Smith is one of the best labels of any kind out their in my opinion. Have you gotten achance to see any of his Red Tab/Japanese stuff? I was extremely impressed with the creativity. He's one of the few designers that constently combinesquality with creativity and class, whether it's a tailor suit, denim, or a leather bomber.

nice stuff for sure, but what people like and constitutes as high end fashion like you said is all based on opinion, if you only count quality then you couldeasily name a lot of lower end general companies that make good clothes as high end, to me the definition of high end DESIGNER clothing is it must be designedby a person or a house. to me neighborhood, tho good quality and all is just another label where as louis v, dior etc are all part of a house name of adesigner who use to or currently still does do most of the design or hires professionals to design under his name if that makes any sense

as for the black suit statement i disagree, personally i find black to be the most versatile suit colour, throw in some silver pinstripes and to me thats aperfect business attire suit (especially when women wear black pinstripe jacket with a skirt and glasses... (dont ask)), to me black matches more then navy aswell as i cant see many dudes pulling off a navy suit with like lime green button up etc where as black can go with literally any colour, the right gray suittho is

as well

Sorry but he is correct with black being too formal and not too versatile at all. A black suit with a silver tie and white shirt is borderline tux territory. Most people even just use a black suit for black tie events now too. Partner up a black suit with a dark shirt and your on waiter territory. A navy or charcoalis much more versatile, the same that a brown shoe is a bit more versatile that black. A lime green shirt with a navy suit may look weird but seriously, a limegreen shirt itself is weird and difficult to pull off. Navy matches with almost anything without being too formal. If you want a borderline black suit, get amidnight blue.

I've been a PS fan for years now. I've seen some of their Red Ear items, I like the jackets mostly. I'm not a big jeans buff so I don't have any interest much in selvage or raw denim, I am pretty happy with my 514's. I am actually in the process of acquiring a few mroe shoes from PS since they have had their 50% off sale this past 2 weeks now. The damn shoes I want eludes me though.

meh like i said its all opinion, me being at a uni with a huge coop program and having to watch people in suits get interviewed all day iv just tended tonotice most people wear black (including the employers) and people that wear otherwise tend to stick out and not always in a good way (seen one dude with navysuit, white dress and green tie and it was
sick.gif
)

black and pink dress shirt = the most common as of late, i myself am a sucker for lilac with a black suit

as for the black and silver tie theory, arent tuxs generally worn with a unique type of dress shirt? and arent they usually worn with a bow tie? i might bewrong on that cause im not a tux guy but i remember something like that off the top of the head

as well mayb im not eatin at the right places
laugh.gif
but i have never seen a waiter wearing a business type suit, and when i do see em wear a waiters suit theback is generally longer and the lapels are shaped distinctly

if you want cheap but decent quality custom suits no jokes this is on some straight out of thailand tip but this site is great, was on a budget for highschoolprom (spent too much on shoes...
smh.gif
) so my friend linked me to this site www.mysuitshop.com

Tuxes are generally worn with bow-ties but how many people do you see in proms with a bow-tie? Ties with tuxes are now generally accepted, even in nightevents. Most people or professionals have also gone to the lengths of using a black suit for black tie events. And yes, tuxes are usually worn with a tux shirtbut again, how many people actually uses that now-a-days? The typical tux is black with a satin peak lapel with a matching satin stripe on the side of thepants, worn with a white tux shirt and black bow-tie, however, that is not the typical tux anymore. Black suits are now worn in the award shows, gala's ,etc... I still say black should only be worn in night events, weddings and funerals.

I'm not saying waiters wear wear black suits, I'm saying that waiters are synonymous with black pants, black jackets and a black or dark shirt and youwant to avoid that look at all cause. Sure in fancy restaurants, waiters have a tail on their jackets but it is still that look. Actually, most concierge inthe restaurant (people that escort you to your seat, not sure if thats what their called) usually wear a black suit with white shirts too. So it is kind oflike going to Target and wearing a red Lacoste polo, you still look like a Target employee. Plus what separates a black business suit to a regular businesssuit? A black suit is a black suit.

As I always say, it is all about the fit. A crappy lime green suit could look good if it fits right, well thats pushing but you get the idea. The same way afitted Kiton suit could look bad if it fits horribly and I think that is your experience as I would say about 90% of the world doesn't wear their suitproperly fitted to their build due to OTR purchases. So maybe the navy suits looks bad where you are at and some people just cannot pull it off.

Check out this well-fitted navy suit with a lavender shirt and dark tie:

Another example of a nive navy (lighter blue) suit with a pink shirt:

A nice example of a grey suit:

I would have personally worn brown shoes with those but black isn't so bad.
And I apologize to everyone for turning this into a suit thread.

lol i like suits so i dont mind, its a nice break from the usual lv/gucci pieces that are shown 5-6 times because everyones got it plus i think everyone shouldhave at least one nice suit in their lifetime

no doubt their are nice navy suits and gray suits, thats not what i was gettin at, my original point was just that i thought black was still more versatile andmatched more with different colours simply because its a neutral tone and that you cant really categorize a outfit for a job or event by a colour of a suit butmore by how you wear the suit which i believe to some extent was also your point.

dior makes dope suits, armani imo also makes top notch suits and to some extent hugo boss

armani is still my favorite brand however, makes best mens wear

I lurk alot and love this thread.

RFX45-What name brand are those suits?
I know the pics are from the latest GQ and the info is listed. It's crazy how different the ppl looked after GQ switched their suits up. Checkit out.

Also, Black suits imho are the least versatile. Navy and Charcoal can be more easily dressed up or down.

The makeovers are the best thing GQ does. And GQ isn't exactly the gospel when it comes to fashion or information. Hell, their idiot Style Guysaid you can't remove pleats from pants, which is just a flat-out lie.
