John Wall.....Bust?

Sac drafted DMC. He and Reke should be a solid core. They aren't necessarily on a bad track just need to grow. And last I checked Sac hasn't had a number 1 overall in the last 10 years.Toronto has made at the very least decent pick ups in free agency and drafting. Bosh just left so there was no reason for Bargs to bolt. When Dwight's rookie contract was up they were a playoff team. Same with Bron. They're leaving is after years of not winning, even though both made it to the finals and laid an egg. In fact the only #1 pick overall in this time period who hasn't made the playoffs in their rookie contract is Wall. So yes his situation is what we are portraying it as. Awful. No one ever said the worst...just awful

He's got two years on his deal after this one, and even if he doesn't accept the qualifying offer after that he'll be a restricted FA, and the Wizards will match anything. That's plenty of time to build a quality team, so the leaving talk from some of you is premature. By the time Wall will be able to leave in three seasons after this one (though it's highly likely he'll sign the usual max extension with an opt out), the NBA landscape will be completely different. That said, if at that time my Wizards are still as awful as they are right now, then I will have no issue with his leaving. Keep in mind, we were a legitimately awful team when we got the top pick so it will take time to build up a squad. We weren't the !++!*## Bulls who had some talent in place, and then lucked out on that Rose pick with a 1% chance.

Speaking of Rose, his second season wasn't much better than Wall's second season thus far. But yeah, he's a bust alright.

All Star caliber players usually stay for the first six to seven years of their career with the team that drafted them.

I think too many people expected too much out of Wall this season. Year Three is when a player makes "that" jump (recent years include Chris Paul in '08, Kevin Durant in '10 and Derrick Rose last season).

Things are really starting to click for Wall now...it's obviously not showing up by way of getting wins, but statistically he's been GREAT since February

His stats for Feb:

19.2 pts
8.6 assists
4.6 rebounds
1.4 steals
48% from the floor

Granted he's only played 2 games in March, but he's averaging this:

22.0 pts
9.5 assists
5.5 rebounds
1.5 steals
55% from the floor

Another thing...he had an AWFUL start to the year.  Despite that, he's upped his overall shooting percentage to 43%.  Which is 3% more than what he averaged last year.

I don't think it can be stated into words exactly how bad of teammates McGee and Nick Young are (not that the others are much better). If everyone on the floor cares more about the highlight play than the smart, easy, correct one, and more about Sportscenter appearances than wins, it's going to have a major effect on you.

That's why it's useless to back up your claims of Wall is (or isn't) a bust with stats. Look at the flipside: McGee is averaging 2.6 blocks, but NO ONE should say he is a good defender.

Washington will be getting rid of McGee, Young, Blatche, and the other poisons on the squad when given the chance. It's the only way to keep Wall once his rookie contract is up; we all know it, and they've probably gotten the hint by now.

Yeah I might leave (and rightfully so if thinks don't change)...but it won't be after his rookie deal. You'd think he was in the WORST situation ever the way %!%%#% keep campaigning for his escape on this board.

Yes I'm mad.

Name me a Good PG who has it worst than he does?
That's not even the point.

Historically...how many #1 overall draft picks come to bad teams and $+%+ is all good by year 2? A shortened year 2 with a couple weeks of training camp on one of the youngest teams in the league at that. It's all %%%%$ and giggles because of the McGee's ******edness and the rest of the team's collective low basketball IQ but at the end of the day...a bad record is a bad record...and history says that most top picks come into a sitation that takes at least a few years to iron out.

In the past 10 years...only 1 top overall pick is not with their original teams and that is Lebron James. Unless you want to tell me that John Wall is in the most dire situation ever that it is a forgone conclusion that he's going to force his way out of town after year 3...when it REALLY hasn't been done before...I'm missing the point of this "Wall out of DC" campaign.
THANK you.. i'm still waiting for someone to name me all of the franchise-caliber top picks who have left their teams after their rookie contracts.

with the way the CBA is now, the Wizards will have every advantage towards keeping Wall. I don't know what world you live in where a 3rd year player would have leverage over his franchise.

Watch him go for 60+ tonight against the Lakers

Yo I am honestly telling you that he is in the worst situation I've ever seen for a #1 pick. They have to trade or cut four players before they're even back to the baseline of 'bad rebuilding team'.

I don't know if he will stay or leave.  But this is so true.  We don't have one starter on our team that would start for any team in the league....other then John.  We need 4 new starters to even hope to be good.  When you are a pass first PG and you have no go to scorer on the team you are in a bad situation.
The wiz will have all the financial advantage but just from a personal standpoint.  If i were john and looked at the deal and realized i might have to walk back on the court for another 3+ years with Javale....Blatche....Jordan "how many insanely difficult fall away jumpers can i take" Crawford...Nick Young......Chris Singleton.....Kevin Seraphin....i may just say eff it and leave lol

We are asking all of the wrong questions here.

Where would Rose be if he was drafted to this Wizards' team?

Idk man....off the top of my head I can't think of a high profile, legit all Star pick whose team didn't improve by sophomore year.  The Wizards are still as bad as before they drafted him.  Wizards management doing nothing to help Wall.

Look at the $%*@@$* Clippers.  Even Sterling made moves to keep Blake.  And look at where they at now in his soph year.

^^^ the league handed him CP3 and he isn't even ready to commit to being there past next season

Ahh, the good old is _____ a bust threads

I should go dig up that thread where dudes were saying Vernon Davis was a bust.
